Very fun game. Disappointed as a remake but that's just because of the standards for games now.

As a disclaimer, I can’t draw a comparison to the original game as I’ve never played it. That said, I now understand why a remake of this game was met with such excitement.
In short:
- It has remarkable atmosphere with some quality scares. I’m a horror film fan and it got me a handful of times.
- Combat is fun, challenging, rewarding, chaotic, and best of all—interesting. I enjoy that your experience with an enemy depends not necessarily on how much you shoot them, but where.
- The controls are tight and responsive, and the haptic feedback is a nice touch.
- I enjoyed the story. I’ve come across some commentary about minor changes to the story compared to the original, so be aware of that.
There aren’t many games that I circle back to some time after completion, but this may well be one of them. I sincerely hope we get additional remakes from this series!

A Terrifyingly Immersive Revival

Gameplay and Atmosphere: The remake of "Dead Space" for the PS5 takes the horror survival genre to a new level. The game retains the core mechanics of the original, with strategic dismemberment combat, but enhances them for a modern audience. The atmosphere is oppressively terrifying, with every corridor and room filled with a sense of dread.
Visuals and Audio Design: Visually, the game is a masterpiece. The lighting and textures are incredibly detailed, perfectly capturing the eerie, derelict nature of the USG Ishimura. The audio design is equally impressive, with the sounds of the ship and the Necromorphs adding to the immersive horror experience.
Performance on PS5: The game runs smoothly on the PS5, with load times significantly reduced and graphics rendered beautifully. The utilization of the PS5's hardware, especially the 3D audio and haptic feedback of the DualSense controller, enhances the sense of immersion and terror.
Story and Characters: The narrative stays true to the original, with Isaac Clarke's harrowing journey to survive and uncover the truth. The character development, especially Isaac's, is more fleshed out, adding depth to the storytelling.
Horror Elements: "Dead Space" excels in its horror elements, with jump scares and a constant sense of tension. The game's ability to balance action with horror ensures that the gameplay remains engaging without losing the fear factor.
Final Thoughts: This remake of "Dead Space" is a triumphant return for the franchise. It respects the original while making improvements that appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers. The game stands as a testament to how classic games can be revitalized for modern consoles.

I’ve played the original game over a dozen times.
The developers have created a masterpiece with this remake while staying true to the roots of what makes Dead Space unique and immersive. The graphics, musical score, sound effects, combat and voice acting are excellent. I also enjoyed how the game’s story was expanded on via video and text logs.
The atmosphere is very eerie, creepy and intense. I’m on my fourth playthrough with the hand cannon and burnished suit that I unlocked last night after finishing the game on the impossible mode setting. It was grueling at the time but taking down necromorphs now with one shot is awesome.
I’m crossing my fingers that Dead Space 2 and 3 get remade with the same level of care and attention to detail even if some changes are made.
If you enjoy the horror/survival genre and/or science fiction then give this game a chance. It is a best in class experience.

Never played the original. So as a first time experience with the story and game design I was very impressed. The graphical is excellent, with the use of the Frostbite game engine. The lighting of the environment nails the horrorcore and suspenseful atmosphere. Sound design is great with the use of good speakers or a a good headset as there is a lot of detail in the noises you hear exploring the massive spaceship the story takes place in. Speaking of the story it is well paced and has good mystery and lore to it. The gameplay/action loop is really good and the weapons are satisfying to use. The monsters and their designs and animations are well executed. Great remake of a game.

One of my favorite games of all time. Was a little worried with EA remaking this game given how terrible dead space 3 turned out but awesome job by motive recreating this masterpiece. Looks great and plays great! Hopefully a dead space 2 will come soon! I usually wait until games go on sale because 70$ is expensive for one game but it was well worth it glad i didnt wait to get it.

Love this game Everything that makes a game great is shown through this remake, the ability to keep you engrossed into the story is remarkable really. Chapters & hours fly by whilst playing as this game's as riveting as is challenging. Playing through my second time on hard has just as much ooompff as the first time, all be it the trickier areas can first time now as know what to expect. Everything is very polished & non gliccy no bugs or fr issues, no lag or bad textures from any picture issue's just all round very smooth. Story's easy to grip with a lorra twists n turns to keep you interested a long the way. Very similar to remnant part from no roll system.

"Dead Space" on PS5 is a masterclass in horror. The remake stays true to the original while enhancing the atmosphere and gameplay. The PS5's power brings the Ishimura to life with stunning detail, from the flickering lights to the grotesque Necromorphs.
The strategic dismemberment is as satisfying as ever, and the enhanced audio design immerses you in the terrifying world. The improved graphics and performance make every encounter heart-pounding.
If you're a horror fan, this is a must-play. It's a brilliant remake that honors the original while delivering a terrifying experience on the PS5.

A definite love letter to fans of the series and well worth adding to the PS5 game library. While I have all three games for the PS3 the price at the time was a no brainer. The developers really did a fantastic job with this remaster as a lot of the graphics have been incredibly enhanced from the PS3 version. The game still has a great atmosphere of horror and suspense that it had on the PS3. Again a game to get before it's too late.

Absolutely incredible. The atmosphere in this game is truly something special and highly immersive. Every time I booted up this game and put my headphones one, I felt like I was dropped into a dark cave with a shoddy flashlight and no way to communicate with the outside world. It's truly horrifying. That said, once you start improving your weapons and suit, you feel a little less threatened when some encounters and then the game becomes a strong balance of scary and satisfying confidence as you dance around and hit your enemies with strategy.
The zero gravity sections are probably my favorite. The story is pretty good and didn't feel too drawn out. The voice acting was good and I thought the game length was perfect. I believe I played on Normal or whatever the standard difficulty is and it felt pretty fair. Even when you're decked out in the end, there are still some challenging creatures and areas to navigate.
I'm still going to keep my 5 star rating but a few minor things that annoyed me is that the game play remains live when you view your inventory and map. The map is also a grainy VHS-like HUD that's both small and on an angle so it's not the easiest to read. It's also easy to accidentally walk through a door that advances the story and then quickly see you completed the chapter and the side quests are crossed out. That was very frustrating as I wasn't always ready and sometimes it was when I was attempting to backtrack to complete a side-quest where I would end up closing the chapter and locking out that quest. I also wish you could read the primary and secondary ability of each weapon whenever you want. It's presented fairly quickly the first time and can be easy to forget if you don't use it often or are in the middle of a fight when you pick one up.
All in all, this is an absolutely incredible experience not to be missed and a GOTY contender (for me at least). While the story and acting doesn't quite have the emotional punch of something like The Last of Us, it's definitely up there for me in a similar vein of feeling completely immersed, scared, and drawing great satisfaction once you get in the swing of things. It was an amazing experience and might add this into my rotation of games I replay once each year.

...And this remaster blew it out of the park! The only problem I had was during gameplay: the changing atmosphere was very noticeable, especially when backtracking; you usually know which rooms had a jump scare. For example, there was this one particular elevator that had a delayed opening, which was unusual because every other time it opened without that much delay. Of course there was a "surprise" necromorph, but fortunately I had backed up enough beforehand to give me distance and time to react. Perhaps my previous gameplay dulled me to this experience? In any case, it's still a good game, and this remaster added more than what I could remember, even if some parts were obvious. Maybe it'll scare first-time players more?

This is how a remaster is done properly. Actually I’d go so far to say this is more of a remake than remaster considering all of the improvements made. The graphics are top notch and really show what the current hardware can do. The sound design is masterful and is best experienced with 3D headphones if you have them. The force feedback of the dual sense is frivolous icing on an already delicious cake.
