I have originally planned on installing 3 of these cameras when I found them on sale. It stood out to me since they don't tie to a recorder and I can add more cameras as needed...plus they were on sale. When I received them the setup and installation/mounting was so easy that I ordered 2 more when they went on sale again. One from my 2nd order was defective so I returned it and stuck with 4. The app is easy to use. The only major roadblock I ran into was I had to add electrical outlets in my attic (nothing to do with the cameras). The other issue is the you need a REALLY good wifi signal to get good live streaming. The wifi signal also effects playing back recorded videos since there isn't a separate recording device...the playback is coming directly from the card in the camera.

Cost Effective, DYI, Home WI-FI Security Camera
I selected this camera for review in exchange for the product because I already have a Defender NVR system ,and, am familiar with the operation and value of Defender security cameras. I have several existing, 2K, outdoor cameras, which provide perimeter, security coverage through my home WI-FI network to a Defender NVR. However, this Defender - Guard Indoor/Outdoor 1440p Wi-FiWireless Network Surveillance Camera also features sound. I was intrigued and anxious to try it out. After a week of experimenting where to place it indoors I finally settled on the best location for optimum indoor security surveillance. YooHoo!
This Defender Guard 2K security camera is a valuable addition to an existing system like mine, or, as a stand-a-lone surveillance camera on any home WI-FI network. It is a cost-effective, DYI, 4MP, 2K resolution, Color Security Camera with Sound and impressive Night Vision. It also has an on-board, self-contained, 16GB Micro SD card, which can be upgraded to 128GB, and, is able to record both 'motion-events' and sound through the Defender Smart Signal App when motion is initiated.
So, after a week why do I think this Defender Guard Surveillance Camera is outstanding?
** Video Quality – This is the most important consideration of any type of surveillance camera. With this camera I can get up to 2k resolution and exceptional night vision of up to 98 feet. The live, color rendition is superior. A big plus is that I can change the resolution from HD (2560 x 1440) to SD (480P), in the 'settings' at the bottom of each camera screen. At the SD (480P) setting I can record and store so much more data. This Guard camera has a generous 123 degree wide angle lens, which is especially outstanding for indoors. If using more then one camera the manufacturer recommends 2K video recording should be limited to only one camera. I have my Indoor, Defender Guard camera set to HD resolution and the outside cameras to SD. A great feature I love is that I can zoom in or out of any live view or recorded video using my two fingers pinched and spread across my Smart Phones, Tablet, or my I-Pad. This gives me so much more detail. Keep in mind that this Defender Guard camera is also a 'stand-a-lone' and through the Defender App can be programmed to record to its SD card upon motion activation. How cool is that?
** Camera Set-Up – This Defender Guard camera is so easy to place and install. A 120 V power outlet is needed to operate the camera along with a Home, WI-FI network wireless or Ethernet connection. This camera works only on a 2.4 GHz radio frequency. If your router has two, or more frequencies of 2.4 and 5.0 GHz it will work fine. The 2.4 GHz is used more often when longer distances are more important then the amount of data delivery. Once powered WI-FI pairing is pretty simple and quick. The included Quick Start Guide provides all the information necessary to pair this camera to your Home WI-FI Network of existing NVR. I first placed my camera in the general location of where I wanted it. Then, after WI-FI pairing, I adjusted the final placement and vertical adjustments by using the live stream on my I-Phone to help me. How simple is that? Be aware this camera can only be adjusted vertically. There is no horizontal adjustment. If Ethernet cable is your choice of installation over wireless because of long distance, be aware that Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable are both capable of runs of up to 1,000 feet without any appreciable degradation in bandwidth. However, using Wireless or Ethernet cable the minimum network download speed of 5Mbps is required for optimal video performance. The Defender Guard camera is capable of motion detection and the on-board sensor is adjustable (1- 5) through the Defender App for sensitivity. Additionally, the Defender App allows me to select a 'Detection-Region', which I can highlight in the Orange Detection Zone. Anything else outside of this zone will be excluded for Motion Detection. This is a very useful feature as it cancels pets, car, or street traffic, and other kinds of views in my camera's field of view that I do not want any Motion Detection triggered.
** Defender App - This FREE App is available for both mobile, android and apple devices. The app will only work on Mobile devices like Smart Phones, Tablets, or I-Pads. It is not downloadable to laptops or desktops. In the various settings menu it allows me to customize my surveillance cameras for constant, time specific, and, or motion and sound detection. It will also notify me as to my set choices and settings.
** Saves Money – As a DIY home security owner I love the fact that this Defender Guard camera and system does not require additional third-party monitoring fees for viewing, recording, and equipment rentals. With your mobile phone connected to your Home WI-FI system you can monitor this camera or several cameras anytime and anywhere, and be notified of an intrusion. WooHoo!
** Concerns – The included power cord is NOT weatherproof. Wherever this camera is installed the 120V power connections must be protected from the elements and safe. Indoors there is no problem, but although the camera is rated IP67, weather resistant, the AC power connection is not. Please keep this in mind if planning on installing this camera outdoors.
** Summary – I highly recommend this Defender - Guard Indoor/Outdoor 1440p Wi-FiWireless Network Surveillance Camera. It is a fantastic, entry level unit, and easy to install, especially if it is used indoors. The features of the camera and App are near professional quality. Outdoor installation requires a little more complexity and expertise. However, most DIY folks can install this surveillance camera anywhere they so choose either by themselves, or with some professional help.

Easy Setup & Clear Picture

I am impressed by this camera’s features and video quality. This is truly a great value.
Pros
- Clear picture, smooth video (even at night), and audio
- No delay when connecting to camera to view live stream or loading recorded video
- Easy install and set up
- Selectable motion zones and sensitivity
- No wifi signal issues
- No fees
- Optional ethernet connection
- SD card included
Things To Consider
- Mount has limited adjustment (by default it only tilts up and down, not side to side). I made it work by setting the camera at an angle then tilting it to the left/ down to level the picture.
- Optional ethernet connector is large (I used a 7/8in drill bit to make a hole to pass through into the wall)
- Finding the balance on motion alert sensitivity takes some trail and error
- No talk back. Audio is listen only.
Install
It includes a long DC extension cable and power adapter. I mounted it on the garage and ran the cable thru the exterior wall. You might be able to get away with a 1/2in drill bit, but the 7/8in bit I used made it easy to pass the connectors thru. I then used T25 staples to run the wire to the garage door open power outlet. I used a twist tie to secure the extra cable and unused ethernet plug.
This camera is great and I recommend it.

The Defender guard 0440P WiFi Wireless network surveillance camera is a very inexpensive high-quality camera. If you are willing to do a little drilling to install this then it is a great option. Installation is not that difficult, and you are given a template to use so you can drill the holes properly. If you are not comfortable with drilling holes or you live in a place where you cannot drill into the walls, then I would suggest looking at other options out there.
Once you have it installed you just need to download the Defender Guard app. I have the Defender 2k 1TB NVR system with two other defender cameras and I was able to pair this new Guard camera with that system very easily. Also, I was already using the Defender Smart Signal app and that works just as well for all the cameras. The new guard shows up and I can see what is going on at my home. In the app you can set up motion alerts and sound alerts. You might have to play around with the sensitivity and zoning function due to the default settings were picking up car lights driving by as motion and alerting me each time, but as I said, zoning and sensitivity I was able to resolve that.
In the box you get a 16GB microSD card (sealed in the camera by two screws), a 14 foot power cable, a 25 foot power extension cable, mounting screws, and a mounting template.
Video recording is good and the night vision is above average. My other cameras do not record sound so this one is a welcome addition. It has a 123 degree field of view and the camera itself is IP67 rated against water so you can mount this exposed to the elements and not worry too much about it, however, the power supply is not so when you mount it you should drill out the center hole in the mounting template and fish the wire thru that and use an outlet that is protected. This also prevents someone from unplugging it which would defeat the purpose of your camera.
Overall, this is a great camera and inexpensive, but has many features of the more expensive units out there.
Pros:
Price
Quality
Records sound
Free Recordings (locally or with Defender DVR)
No subscription fees
Zoning function
Night Vision
Ethernet option
Easy to use App
Cons:
Only works on 2.4ghz networks (currently)
Install (drilling required)
Wired power, only wireless connection

---SETUP---
The setup of the Defender Guard camera requires a Phillips #2 screw driver, a drill and drill bit set, an Android or iOS device, and high speed internet (wired or wireless).
---FEATURES---
The key feature of this camera is that it can continuously record, has an included 16 Gig SD card, allows for manually selection of motion detection, has no subscription plan requirements, and can work on a wireless network.
---PERFORMANCE---
In the dark, the image was very clear. I tested the darkness in a room because the area outside my home is very well lit and I couldn’t get it activate night vision. Once I installed it aiming outside, motion wasn’t activating on it’s own. I had to go into the settings and increase the sensitivity before it picked up people walking in front of the camera. The sensitivity was now picking up traffic, so I went into the app and selected the area I wanted it to focus for motion detection.
---EXPECTATIONS---
The product meets my expectations but previously owning a different system, I got used to a few modern commodities when it comes to security cameras. For one, you will have to drill this camera somewhere. If you aren’t a handy-man/woman or live in a place where you can’t drill, then this camera may not be of much use to you. Additionally, if you want to install this camera outside, you have to have a power outlet within reach. If you plug it into an outdoor outlet that can easily be reached by potential threats, then the camera won’t serve its purpose. What you may have to do is drill a hole from the outside of your home to the inside and run a wire to the closest outlet. The power adapter itself is 10 feet long with an included 25 feet extension if needed. The chassis of the camera is weather resistant (rain/snow) but not the power supply, so that’s another thing to consider. If you want, or need, you can use this camera by connecting an ethernet cable as opposed to a wireless connection. This may be your only option if your network doesn’t support 2.4 GHz, as that’s the only way to connect it wirelessly. The ethernet cable hangs right from the camera itself too, so that may require a second drilling or a thicker hole to run both cables from. If you don’t use that ethernet plug, then that cable will just hang and look aesthetically unpleasing.
The app works great without much of a hassle and it is easy to understand. I could view the camera’s live feed and take pictures while recording if needed. Away from home, I was able to see what was happening, and I received notifications when motion was activated.
---VALUE---
The price for the camera in terms of value is good if you are willing to dedicate time to the installation and work with the aforementioned caveats.
---APPROVAL---
I highly recommend this product for people who live in an area where drilling is allowed and either will hire someone to install the camera for them or will install it themselves.

I’ve been using this for about a week now and I’m very impressed with the overall performance of this camera. You definitely want to use it in high definition mode for a clearer resolution and the included (and upgradeable) 16gb memory card is a welcome plus. I may upgrade it later but so far it’s been more than sufficient.
Installation is simple and includes a template to mark the holes and also includes an extension cable in case your outlet is further than 15 feet away.
I mounted this above my garage and other than having to climb into the crawl space to run the wire, it was easy. The only suggestion I would make is to the mount. The mount can be adjusted up and down, but not left to right. I didn’t know this before I installed it so my camera is a little off center but it still works for my installation.
The app works great and you can also record audio but you can’t have a two way conversation, but that’s not that big of a deal at this price point.

My first review of Defender Guard 4 Megapixel 2K Wi-Fi Security Camera. I will update this review once I have it installed. I am putting this outside so I want to run power to the unit instead of using an extension cord that can be unplugged. At the time of this review, the unit was listed on Bestbuy.com for $59.99 which is a great deal.
What this product is: This camera is an IP camera so no DVR is required. It connects through an App on your phone and all this is connected to your home network. It has up to 2K resolution and also has night vision with a 123-degree wide-angle lens. This unit also has audio when in ideal location would be able to hear the audio.
The app is easy as the quick start has a code for the app so finding it is no problem. Again, you need this unit connected to power so one connected you scan the camera to the app and Wala that is the setup. I did have an issue at first keeping the unit connected to my network, so I am considering moving the unit closer to my wireless router. I can't say this is the issue but it seems to work better when closer to your router.
Overall I give this product 4 stars as I can not say for certain the unit can be a distance from the home network. The picture does seem a bit grainy but not blurry. The night vision is cool and yes the audio does work.

Easily mounted high up on outside wall front of house. I drilled one 3/8 center hole to run power cord from inside outlet to camera and three 1/8 template mounting holes I am an excellent carpenter so this was easy for me you may need a contractor it this way. Wi Fi network setup and android app install on cell phone was quick and easy for me no problems followed quick start guide flawless up and running in 5 minutes. This camera was very surprising good wide angle crystal clear daytime color video night time black and white also excellent. The android app well designed and works great. I installed a 128gb memory card and so far with 24/7 continuous recording it looks like it will record 1 week before it over rights. The camera only works on 2.4 wi fi on my home network no buffering no lag constant continuous video. Keep in mind you should have a good high speed internet and capable good router for any video system to work properly. Take the time to read instructions. This camera and android app well designed and all functions work great for a low cost. This only works with android cell phone app no PC Windows app yet. Keep in mind you must also have a good capable phone also don't complain if you do not have the proper equipment and network capabilities. Remote viewing from anywhere also worked flawlessly. With the app you can take snap shots and review recorded video anytime. Thank you.

Setup of this Defender Guard indoor/ outdoor camera is very simple and straight forward whether you follow the instruction on the included manual in the box or on the IOS/ Android app. All what I need to complete my installation was included; screws, drilling chart, and power cable. I have set it up and get it mounted within 15-18 minutes. Camera resolution is 2K at 16x zoom capability without losing resolution, Nightvision works amazingly as I installed it in my garage where it is dark while I can see a clear inside, SD card for local storage (128 GB included) can be expanded to 128GB. Overall. It does record audio so but I does not offer 2 ways audio. This camera is well designed and easy to use except a few updates I would like to see in the future firmware update like the ability to save clips on phones rather than the local storage (SD card) in the camera only.

I bought two of these to replace the cheaper set I bought about two years ago for half the price. Way easier to set up, way better picture quality, and app is very simple too. Only con is there is no PC viewing system. I personally have an Android App Store emulator on my PC so I am able to download the mobile app and view on computer that way, but with I could just enter the IP address and view as you can with others.

Overall this is a good camera if you want something simple to connect and monitor your house.
***SETUP***
Installation of the Android App (this is all Android/iOS based, no Windows or MacOS client), was one of the most straight forward and easy experiences I had. Installed the application from the Play store, and followed the prompts. Setting up an account was easy. Just needed and e-mail, nothing fancier, and then onto the setup. It had me scan a QR code on the top of the camera, enter in my Wireless network (make sure your phone and camera are both on the same wireless 2.4GHZ network) and then it sent a tone from my phone to camera and bam it was all set. I could see the camera via the application. Application is barebones but easy to use. Didn't have any problems navigating and finding settings like Notification zones etc. Notifications seem snappy.
After I had the camera working and happy I went ahead and setup where I wanted. Not this is a wired power supply that will need an outlet. Depending on where you want to put the camera, make sure you have an outlet about 35 feet from the camera. Looking at the manual for outdoor installation, it looks like they designed the camera and expect you to run the cord into the house and plug it in. That is fair and secure, but if you planned on installing it somewhere else to watch the approach to the house note you need to have an outlet nearby, and while the camera is rated for the outdoors, not sure on the plug. That really is downside needing to make sure it can be placed closed to a plug. Additionally if you find your wireless signal not cutting the camera can be wired to run over ethernet if needed.
The two things that impressed me both though with the camera's setup was when I named it, that was the host named used making finding it on my network much easier and they recommended setting up a device password too. This was nice since they expose an RSTP network feed, and more camera's don't have passwords or have default and easily guessed ones that a quick Internet search could find. Being asked to change the password during setup shows they are at least thinking about security and a nice change from a lot of other devices.
Please note that for wireless it will only connect to a 2.4GHZ connection and depending on what your house is made of wireless can vary a lot. Where my camera is it is about 5 feet from my AP, but be ready to fiddle with the camera and your wireless access point to get the signal you need to use this. But to give defender credit they allow that you will have Wireless issues and give you a way to hardline your connection, something you don't see on wireless cameras and I appreciate the backup.
****USAGE****
Once you have the camera setup and tuned and the notification zones in place, it is a nice camera. I don't have any problems accessing it or the internal storage. Camera comes with 16GB SD Card to record movement that can be downloaded. Watching my network DNS it looks like they are using a reverse application proxy to allow remote connection, which is nice. Don't have to subscribe and for most people 16GB should cover, but you can upgrade fairly easily if needed. Additionally sharing the camera is easy which is nice because I can give my wife access as well. Additionally this camera over port 554 will stream an RSTP feed. This is nice because when I'm home I don't have to grab my phone, I can use VideoLAN player (VLC) to see what my camera is seeing easily, just when it prompts you the user account is admin and the password is what you set during setup. Its nice to be able to have a quick peak on a larger screen and gives this some life in case an Android update breaks the application and they don't fix it quickly enough I can at least view my camera feed. Though I wish they'd release a PC app that will allow the access like the app, if for no other reason a larger screen makes it easier and honestly that is my only main compliant, no way beyond a phone application to be able to fully use my camera. That limitation aside I'm happy with the camera and how it is working, the features it has work and are simple enough to use.

I bought this to keep an eye on my property. I set it up to my wifi and my phone. You can monitor live or check detected motion. Daytime resolution is great, night is good, but a street lamp is a hindrance because its currently inside. I think once I mount outside that will resolve.
This is great, I bought a cheaper cam before, setup was tough, and I couldn't get it to work.

Setup was very easy. I downloaded the app, scanned the QR code, listened to a very loud and annoying bird sound and in less than 5 minutes, I had it connected to WiFi and created the required account. My recommendation is to do that before physical installation and test it where you want to place it before drilling holes. The hardest part for me was taking the power to the front of the house, next to the garage door, and hiding it, which was long enough with the included extension. You can also connect an Ethernet cable instead of using WiFi at 2.4Ghz but I suspect very few people would do that if they were using this camera outdoor.
The app is simple but does its job well. Picture is clear with a very wide angle but you need to have a good WiFi signal where the camera will be mounted. I had to move part of my WiFi mesh around to get it to work reliably but once I did that, I had no issues. Zooming did not cause the image to be grainy like some budget cameras do. At least not during the day. Nightvision worked much better than I expected but it did get grainy when zooming in the dark. That did not bother me because even some high-end cameras cannot do better than that in this circumstance, and the clarity of the image is good enough to identify any person.
The SD card to record video is a good option although my preference would be to store it on the cloud since SD cards can fail and fill up. The good news here is that there are no subscription fees and it does push notifications with pictures to your phone when it detects motion around it. Speaking of notifications, I was being bombarded until I realized you could configure motion sensitivity, area and time.
I did not notice any lagging even when far from home but I have gigabit fiber, which can help. Still, no lags in any situation mean that the camera can communicate with the WiFi router or modem at a very good data rate, which you would expect only from cameras that are more expensive.
Unless you want Alexa or Google Home compatibility or want a better looking camera, you cannot go wrong with this Defender Guard.
