I bought these 2 tower speaker as fronts to go from 5.1 to 7.1 in my basement. They compliment my 4 Def Tech Pro Monitor 1000s and the 8040 center channel very well. I'm searching for movies now that bring out the vivid sound that my home theater system offers now! I was watching the NBA playoffs last week and it felt like fans were sitting all around me. Potential buyers be cautioned though, Def Tech recommends that you have these floor monitor speakers professionally set up as for the auto set feature in some receivers are not able to properly set the crossover cut off frequency for these speakers. If your receiver allows you to go into the settings, you can easily set the crossover/cutoff frequency to correct range of the speaker though.

I'm a videographer so the audio is very important factor for me, so I asked David ( at Glendale's Best Buy ) he suggested and tested, at last 8040 7.2 was the final choice which I'm very happy with it.

I bought these floor speakers, but then I returned them for the BP-8060ST. These speakers sounded great. There wasn't a lot of difference in sound between these and the 8060's. The main difference is the subwoofer of the 8060 produced a deeper bass. Overall, if your not concerned about the extra bass, save the money and buy these. Don't get me wrong, these still provide plenty of bass.

I needed a pair of speakers to replace my old Marantz Imperial 7 MK II's from the 70's to pair up with my Pioneer Elite VSX29-TX Receiver for music-only listening in the living room. Listened to these in the Magnolia demo room at Best Buy and was sold! They have a much cleaner sound than my old speakers and the built-in subwoofers are perfect for the size of the room. I have a Definitive Technology Mythos surround system for the home theater, so already knew the company's products and customer service are excellent.

On sale these are a great speaker for a great price. Integrated sub is excellent to save floor space, and the backward facing cone really makes things come to life.

I have a room full of Def Tech speakers and subs, but my front mains were Boston Acoustic before I swapped them out with these. The sound is amazing! These really brought the package together and all I can say is I am more than impressed with the difference in the overall sound of my system now. I have had an loved Def Tech speakers for years, but these new front mains have sealed the deal with my opinion of this brand. Everything is super crisp from highs to bass. It is amazing how I can now hear every tone clearly now from movies to stereo. Buy these, you won't regret it. If you don't have a supercube I would suggest getting the one's with the larger subs just to keep the bass strong in your sound.

These speakers are used in a large room. The sound is great throughout and no distortion at high volume. They have excellent bass and eliminate the need for external subs.

Went to the Magnolia center in the Best Buy in Memphis, TN and got a chance to hear and play with these bad boys. Wow is all I can say. The power and performance put out by these speakers is incredible. Also Daniel at the Magnolia center is amazing and is extremely knowledgeable about all the products. Best salesperson I have encountered anywhere.

The sound is great and the built-in amp is just what I need for my size living room. I have two of these, and they are perfect size.

the best choice from those in store. I might have preferred speakers with somewhat more brightness and presence like some electrostatics you had in the store, but the electrostatics on display did not sound as good as these. we will stick with them. the bipolar feature is to give impresseion of a concert hall-- not sure this is a good feature.

This is one good speakers, high frequency and mid range are very good. Even on low volume it retains the spread and also is crisp. The amazing part is the powered subwoofer, it gives me the freedom of having a separate subwoofer. The sound spread across the room is quite satisfying. I would have loved if it had a grill cover instead of a socks type cover.

These bi-polar super towers are amazing! Definitely recommend this for any audiophile out there

I had a great time at best buy. They took their time and let me sit down and listen to many different types of speakers. It took me about two hours but a great customer experience. I truly love these speakers. They are powerful and a great buy. They have built in amps and can jam some music. Thank you BEST BUY.

I purchased these speakers to upgrade from some JBL tower speakers I had purchased. Part of the reason I went with these as an upgrade was due to a prior purchase of the CS 8040 center channel. I was able to hear them in store and noted the clarity. After hearing them together it was pretty much a no brainier. The BP 8040's and their upgrade the 9040 were the perfect balance. I further noted that the subwoofer I currently have was supplemented nicely by turning each speaker's self powered subwoofer up about half way. I managed to get a great price which made the purchase all the sweeter. I would highly suggest you consider these speakers or the 9040's if you are looking to upgrade yourself.

Purchased these speakers 2 months ago and have been putting them through what I consider my test. Everything from Classical, to some great metal. These speakers have out performed my expectations. From detailed crisp clear strings, to solid tight bass. It has everything I need packed into one package. However I have paired it with a quality sub to handle the deepest punch. These speakers alone DO NOT NEED a sub since they have them built in which works very well, but the extra bass creates realistic sounds and no breakdown in sound generation even at extremely loud volumes. A+

We purchased these for our home theater as front speakers as recommended and now I don't think we will ever watch movies at the theater. Great sound quality, also purchased with the back speakers as well.

I purchased the 8040's as an upgrade from the pro-monitor 1000's. I really like the sound quality of the towers and they look very impressive, but the bass wasn't adequate for my tastes. I was about to upgrade to the 8060's or 8080's (I REALLY like to feel the lows and rumble of quality bass), but instead I added a Supercube 2000 (eeeggsulent product!!). My set up consists of the 8040 towers, 8040 center channel, two pro-monitor 800's in the rear, a Pioneer 7.1 Elite receiver (770w) and the aforementioned Supercube. The set up fills my 24x25 converted garage / mancave with booming sound ! I would definitely recommend the 8040's, but if bass is your thing you may want to upgrade to the much more expensive 8080's or mate the 8040's with an additional subwoofer. Either way, you will not be disappointed with Definitive Technology's products...once you get them properly sync'd with your receiver.

I just bought these speakers after using Bose for 2 years and cannot compare them. The difference is huge, two different sounds. I would recommend these to anyone right now. The new technology just came out, but for the price, you cannot get a better set of speakers and the dual subwoofer adds the extra that is needed if you do not have a dedicated subwoofer for your system. The Center Speaker is recommended, but if you can only get the towers, do it.

I am not expert in sound, but these speakers sure deliver. They sounded great at the store's showroom. My living room is just average in size and these do the job.

I chose these, after reviewing several different speakers. The do not disappoint. They highs are clear and precise. The built in woofers produce more than enough bass. The low bass radiator keeps things nice and tight. The bi-polar set up produces 360 degrees of sound with life-like reproduction. I am running them with an Onkyo TX-RZ800. They can handle whatever you throw at them.
