I bought a Definitive Technology W9 to try one out. The sound quality alone impressed me enough, I bought a second one the following week. The W9 has a lot of punch in the mid bass frequency, due to the dual 5 1/4" drivers. The soft dome tweeters produce clear, natural highs. Dialog is easy to understand because the mids are well balanced. An unexpected feature is the DTS communication between the W9, the smaller W7, and the W Studio Soundbar. I returned to buy the W Studio Soundbar. The free app allows you to connect all of the W9's, the W7's and the W Studio's you may own, in a whole house music system that is super easy to use. You can connect virtually any online music stream from Sirius XM to Pandora & many others to any W devices, or all W devices at once! Because I use Apple Airport Express' to convey sound to various rooms throughout the house in an existing network, I plugged an Airport Express into the optical digital input of the W9. The attached photo shows one W9 with the Airport Express sitting on top of the wireless speaker. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the W9! They sound very similar to the discontinued Bowers & Wilkins W7, which I use and also connect via Airport Express because the wireless receiver in the B&W is very weak & constantly drops a signal. I have recently shipped my B&W for service: that cost a lot, and the B&W suffers from software issues, which the Definitive Technology does not. The W9 is the best sounding wireless speaker I have auditioned & purchased to date!

I was contemplating between the W7 and th W9 on my original purchase. I did purchase the W7 and after listening to how good the W7 I had to go back and pickup the W9 since it was on sale. The W9 is even better than the W7 and that was already really good. I wish the W9 came in white like the W7 but I'll make it work in my decor. Easy to setup to the wifi but I found out that to use the Aux input you have to manually select the inputs from the front controls located on the speaker and not from the app. It would of been great if the app had the capability to select the Aux input like selecting the different streaming apps to listen to music. Both the W7 and W9 has this one limitation and no bluetooth capability is one downfall of this speaker, but DTS play-fi works well. Had some intermittent issue streaming from my iPhone 6 but that went away.

I originally went to Best Buy to purchase the Sonos speaker, but after listening to this one, I was sold. I have it placed on a bookcase shelf in my living room and it fills the whole floor with sound. I can hear it upstairs as well. The sound is great, it looks nice and I think it's well worth the money.

Really love the Def Tech speakers. Have the w studio, 1 w7, and 1 w9 and they all sound phenomenal. Super easy setup in minutes, great sound. Amazing bass from stand alone wifi speaker

This speaker really blew me away with how it could fill the room. It has the great bass response that DefTech is known for along with clear highs. Volume needs to be relatively high to get best sound quality, which can be a drawback for some. I've been impressed with Play-Fi's software updates as they took a shaky product and made it the most reliable way to stream Spotify around my house.

Great Sound, Easy Setup, Integrated into existing Definitive Technology wireless products. Needs an improved app to go with it now. Better sound, but basic app compared to Sonos.

It is very hard for me to give 5 stars,buy this is pretty close. Although I own Sonos and Bose, this one is in a class by itself. Sonos is functional, and the highs and lows are great. Bose bass always rocks,but slightly distorts at higher ranges. DT rocks the his and los,and has a decent bass. Although quite expensive;which may prevent many from purchasing. If it ever goes on sale though, grab one. You will not be disappointed.

First time I heard it in store I was blown away. Such a big sound from a small speaker. Quality of sound could be heard from every corner of my living room and dining room. Highly recommend this product.

I have been slowly building out my wireless whole home audio system and couldn't be happier with my decision to go with Definitive. The quality of the sound coming out of the system is very good and the ability to move around the speakers at will is another perk. I also really enjoy running multiple speakers with multiple sources simultaneously, or when we are entertaining and need some background music we can select them all for every level of the house. The only real negative I can say is the listed price. However, this is a premium product and you get what you pay for.

My husband absolutely loves this speaker. He made a wooden carry tray for it so he can move it to wherever he wants it in the house. I would have gone with the smaller model, but he claims he can hear the difference in sound quality.

Easy setup and great sound. I use the speaker in my den for listening to music from pc and can switch to other devices with ease. Very accurate and detailed sound. If I want to use it in my garage or out on the patio it works great as long as you have a good wifi signal and a plug in for power.

Ordered it as Xmas present for straight A, college son. Delivered to house week before. Opened on Christmas, and would not initiate Wi-Fi connection, big present bust I was thinking. May have been a demo? Or My son ordered C grade equipment? Brought it back to BB and accepted return with no hassle, sent new one to house on 2-day delivery. New one was superb and WOW is all I can say, the sound is best I have heard... son is very happy and it rocks the entire house. Quality of sound is truly amazing.

Purchased as a first component for a wireless system. Worked straight out of the box, hasn't disappointed yet.

I love the Definitive Technology W9. The sound quality is amazing with full bass and balanced sound. It is easy to set up and the controls are easy to use. It is a great compliment to my play-fi whole home sound system.

It took a little geek squad help to figure out how to set it up and sync with our phone/sound bar but it's working great.

Love the sound. Not as easy to use the app, but I love the speaker. doesn't appear to have an on/off switch so it stays on all the time. But sound quality is top notch.

The sound is amazing. I think it is the best sounding speaker out there. The only issue is the blu tooth/WiFi set up. Not happy with that but the final sound makes it all worth it.
