Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the G15 gaming laptop's performance, graphics, cooling system, and build quality. Many appreciate the smooth visuals from the high refresh rate display and the good value for the price. However, some users point out that the laptop is heavy and has a smaller-than-ideal trackpad, while others mention the need for a RAM upgrade and less-than-stellar battery life. The large power brick is also a recurring point of feedback.

This G15 weighs in at 6+ pounds despite an all plastic chassis, and includes a colossal power brick. Under the hood is a 13th gen Core i7 processor, 8gb of DDR5 4800 RAM, 1TB NVMe drive, and an Nvidia RTX4050 GPU. Externally, it sports a crisp bright 15.6” 120Hz matte LED panel with good uniform lighting and no observable light bleed or clouding on dark backgrounds. The screen is not HDR compatible for gaming. The backlit keyboard includes a number pad and the reddish-orange hued backlighting matches the overall color theme and aesthetic. The trackpad is puny and swipes occasionally lag, even with adjusted sensitivity. I despised it after only a few minutes of use and switched to an external mouse. Onboard ports include one full-size HDMI, three USB-A, one DisplayPort compatible USB-C, one ethernet, and one 3.5mm audio. There are no onboard biometric devices. There is a webcam, but it isn’t Windows Hello compatible, lacks a privacy shutter, and the 720p resolution is low by today’s standards. Speakers sound passable and are useful in a pinch, but a headset or external speakers are preferred. Preinstalled software includes Dell management apps, McAfee security, McAfee Web Adviser and the usual Office 365 and other demos that Microsoft ships with all OEM copies of Windows Home. I left the Dell apps intact and uninstalled everything else. The G15 is capable of handling many recent AAA game titles but some of the more demanding games quickly push it to the brink at higher settings. The sweet spot for game quality settings seems to be medium to high for most of my games. Some can run at higher settings, but some others will only run error free on low. I’ve played several games in my library, including racers, shooters, and RPGs. My overall favorite game, FH5, launched automatically set to low. I ran the in-game benchmark to double-check and it confirmed low was the best setting for optimal performance. Gameplay is stable on low with frame rate locked at 60fps and only 35% GPU utilization. I did notice some controller input latency with both wired and wireless controllers. My car was sluggish to respond and felt like it was sliding on ice due to delayed braking and cornering. I also noticed sluggishness while using in-game menus. On the plus side, the gpu renders beautiful environments, and graphics look good even on the low setting. Out of curiosity, particularly since I was averaging under 50% GPU utilization, I bumped the graphics quality up to high, which required restarting the game. The game immediately displayed low system memory and poor network performance warnings on re-launch. I reverted quality back down to low and the errors disappeared. I didn’t bother trying to test the Ultra or Extreme settings after that experience. FH5 is a demanding game and I like to use it as a benchmark on new gaming machines because it usually exposes any underpowered components or bottlenecks fairly quickly. FH4 and two RPG themed shooters all played fine and mostly error free on higher settings. I did get a single low memory warning in FH4 but it hasn’t appeared again so far. My next step is to increase the RAM to 16gb or 32gb to see if it helps with the controller latency and low system memory warnings. Battery life is adequate and provides me a few hours of battery powered gaming when needed. Thermal management is good thanks to a robust air cooling system that provides great airflow and keeps the system cool even during intense gaming. There are large exhaust vents on the rear and smaller vents on each side. I haven’t detected any worrisome hot spots underneath the screen that I typically encounter on gaming laptops with rear exhaust. The highest measured temp around the rear fan vents with my IR gun was 128F. Cooling is not only efficient, but also relatively quiet most of the time. Dell equipped the G15 with several ways to manage thermals through the BIOS and the included Dell and Alienware apps. The fans never get disruptively loud, even while running at full speed. TLDR version: The G15 is a good mid-tier gaming laptop with robust air cooling. It ships with a sizable hard drive along with a solid CPU and GPU, but a smallish amount of upgradeable DDR5 RAM. It runs most newer and older games with no problem, but occasionally struggles with resource intensive newer games at higher quality settings. It has a crisp vivid screen with no observed artifacts, a decent backlit keyboard, a small trackpad, no fingerprint scanner, mediocre webcam, basic sound, and average battery life. It is a heavy laptop and has an enormous power brick.

If you're like me and want something to play games on it, similar to how you'd treat a game console, then this is FAN-Freaking-TASTIC. I don't anticipate needing this as a laptop for travel on a regular basis. It games quite well, stays quiet and cool and has a decent screen to boot. I brought it over to a friends house for a "LAN" party, which we just played Call of Duty online, but in the same room, and it was a blast. I had a power brick, controller, and a laptop all in a single bag. My other friends had to bring a monitor, game console, power cords, video cords, controllers, and headsets. Not to mention my one friend who brought his entire computer and all the things associated with that decision. Basically I enjoyed it's portability enough, and appreciate the design to allow for better cooling. I was able to play Cyberpunk, Call of Duty, and really any game I had in my Steam library without any real issue at medium settings and I was able to push some games to high and even ultra in some older titles. I LOVE the keyboard, it's so good to type on. The only real downsides to this laptop is the trackpad size, battery life, bulk, and underwhelming speakers. I wish it was a little sleaker, had a more premium look, and better sound. I also don't think the power brick needs to be as large as it is, but considering the draining speed it charges pretty darn quick, so not a bad trade off really. 8 GBs of RAM is kind of low, but I don't imagine it being a big deal to upgrade. Overall, my experience has been good, and I think it's a good product. It's a decent performer. I would recommend this to a friend any day.

Dell G15 15.6" FHD 120Hz Gaming Laptop has decent configuration and it came with 13th Gen Intel Core i7 13650HX Processor, 8GB DDR5 RAM, 1920x1080 FHD 120Hz LED display, 1TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Solid State Drive, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Graphics onboard and Power Cord / AC adapter. The build quality is great as you expect from Dell. However, it is very heavy compared to other gaming laptops I have used in the past. It weights close to 9 lbs with power adapter and not easy to carry around. The GeForce RTX 4050 comes with 6GB GGDR6 RAM can handle most of the games. It comes with preloaded Windows 11 Home operating system. After connecting with Microsoft Account, it synced all my windows configurations from other laptop. There is no built in CD / DVD drive and all software can be downloaded once it is connected to Wi-Fi6 network. It does have ethernet port which can be used for wired internet connection. The built in 720p web camera good for video calls and meetings. The keyboard is very responsive and soft. The display is sharp with 120Hz refresh rate and games looks vivid on the screen. There are many other ports available in the laptop. HDMI 2.1 port allows to connect external monitors to play the games in bigger screen. There are 3 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-C 3.2 ports available to use various devices. It has headphone and microphone inputs. It comes with Alienware-Inspired Thermal Design which has four heat pipes and two improved fans with ultra-thin blades for increased airflow to reduce heat while playing games. Battery life is normal and 3 hours of continuous usage during gaming and around 5 hours during normal usage. This is entry level gaming laptop which has decent configuration and not the good one to carry around due to the weight of the laptop and power brick.

Solid gaming laptop but needs more memory

As far as gaming laptops go the minimum amount of system RAM should be 16 GB or better yet 32 GB. I saw the RAM being almost 99% maxed out when playing some games and although not entirely sure whether it was the system or the game that crashed due to the new Robocop game still being tested or the laptop. Overall the laptop is a solid gaming laptop and with that just like other gaming laptops with this level of hardware it doesn't last more than about 3 to 4 hours when not plugged in. The first thought I had when I pulled it out was how big the power brick was for this laptop. Setup only took about 15 minutes to get setup and booted into windows then a few updates and I was downloading games within 30 minutes. Pros: It will run just about every game I have thrown at it, puts up solid numbers on the 3D Mark tests I ran, it has ample cooling but I would still suggest elevating it or putting it on a cooling pad with fans because it still gets hot, any mouse or gamepad I connected to it worked without issues, HDMI out to use an external monitor as a secod screen Cons: It is large and heavy, the power brick is huge and not very portable, needs more RAM, only has 3 USB ports and one USB C port Overall this will run just about anything I have thrown at it although not to the level I would have expected with Forza Horizon 5 being recommended to run on low settings to hit 60 FPS. At this price point I would have expected it to run on high settings without any issues but will keep tweaking to see i I can get it there.

The Dell G15 is a pretty impressive gaming laptop that has a lot of great features. The G15 is a heavy computer with a 15.6” FHD 120hz screen, Intel i7, 1TB SSD, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Graphic, and 8GB of RAM. The Intel i7 chip runs this machine effortlessly and allows me to be productive for gaming and work purposes. The gaming aspect of playing games such as Quantum Break, Halo, TitanFall, and Assassins Creed have all been fantastic experiences. The games work very smoothly. I’ll plan on upgrading the RAM so my multitasking can be done without any hiccups. The G15 works effortlessly to keep the laptop cool under duress. The multiple fans and vents are strategically placed and give this an optimal performance temperature without overheating. The laptops LED FHD 120hz screen works is a very nice screen for gaming purposes and has a smooth flow throughout various games. The G15 is a baby Alienware style computer and also runs some Dell Alienware software to help optimize the machine to your liking. Dell's Game Shift Key allows for a boost in gaming performance and fan boost to easily keep up with your needs. This i7 CPU paired with the RTX 4050 gives amazing speed and graphics without any hesitation. The layout of the keyboard is nice, and having a numeric keypad is a nice bonus for when I'm using the laptop for work purposes. Back lit keyboard is a blessing for working in low light settings. The power brick for this computer is quite large and one of the biggest I've come across. There are multiple ports for all your needs consisting of 3 USB-A, 1 USB-C, HDMI, headphone jack, and ethernet port. This Dell G15 is blazing fast on the WiFi 6 and holds a strong connection in my house no matter where I'm setup. Front facing camera 720p is good, and is the bare minimum of what you'd expect in a laptop like this. Overall a good gaming laptop with a large hard drive, great visually, and fast internals. The only thing I'm upgrading soon will be the RAM.

Incredible Thermals, Fast, Quiet, Gaming Laptop

Dell has delivered something incredible - the G15 is the first gaming laptop I have used that runs cool and quiet. I am in disbelief - even during setup with BIOS and all the Microsoft Windows updates the G15 barely made a sound. It's literally quieter than the Windows laptop I have for work - so getting this kind of quiet on a gaming laptop is mind blowing. The specs are amazing, 13th Gen i7 and an RTX4050 which makes the thermals even more impressive. The DDR5 RAM is a little less than I would expect for gaming PC (8GB) but you can buy 32GB for under $100 on BestBuy. I'm not sure how easy it is to open and change, as not willing to take that risk, but Dell's website does say you can upgrade. In terms of gaming performance. I am getting consist 120fps+ on Ultra settings across a variety of games (Overwatch, Fortnite, Assassins Creed). This is Amazing! The 120hz screen is clean, no bleed, keyboard responsive but the touchpad is not great. It's not very responsive to button presses and the click is underwhelming. I would strongly recommend getting and using an external gaming mouse. The keyboard is very good though, decent travel and WASD'ing away on games was no problem. Design wise, I'm going to say again, the thermal temps mean Dell has done something smart with the design. There are top, bottom, rear, and side cooling ports. The rear vents have an burnt-orange metallic color. There is no RGB but the keyboard is backlit a soft orange. It lights evenly and almost looks like the keys have a natural orange. The lid is not shiny but did attract fingerprints. The power supply is huge (330W) and the plug inserts in the rear, which is smart - a few laptop manufacturers make the mistake of having it come in on the side and end up blocking ports. In terms of ports. you get: 3 x USB A (2 are side mounted, 1x rear) 1 x USB C (rear) 1 x Network 1 x Headphone 1 x HDMI (full size! yay!) I'd love an extra USB C but I am probably just being needy. I've attached some benchmarks to this review. 3DMark TimeSpy score is 9109, but look at the thermals staying under 90F. That's impressive for a laptop. UserBenchmark scores give a Gaming Score of 119%, Desktop of 106%, and Workstation of 131%. Graphics is 114% (Outstanding) and even getting into details on the NVMe, it's getting 313% - Dell has seriously optimized this. Overall. Amazing gaming laptop. Great speed and performance but also very quiet and doesn't run hot. Plenty of ports for any gaming peripheral. I would recommend the G15 laptop to any gamer. Just budget for a mouse (trackpad could be better) and maybe a RAM upgrade at some point.

Works amazing so far. I’ve had it for a week or so, runs all of my games great. So far been playing No Man’s Sky most days and running it on max settings. FPS stays at or above 58-60. Looks great, stays relatively cool with its double fans, super easy to upgrade the RAM. Very happy with my purchase. Battery drains very quick while playing beefy games though but it’s nothing to be surprised by.

Great powerful mid level gaming rig

The Dell G15 5530 gaming laptop is a solid contender in the mid-range gaming laptop market, offering a balance of performance, display quality, and storage capacity. It has a respectable 15” FHD 120Hz screen, an updated 13th Gen Intel i7 core CPU teamed with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 6GB DDR6 GPU, sufficient starter storage with one 1TB SSD, and a bit limiting 8GB of Ram memory, but is future proofed with DDR5 4800mhz. It has the specs to deliver a satisfying gaming experience on a budget, with the ability to upgrade easily to a dynamic gaming experience with a second DDR5 slot and M.2 pcie. I’m not sure why Dell prepackaged this G15 with an i7 Intel processor and RTX 4050 with only 8GB of RAM??? It’s almost a tease of power, but with prices dropping, and the ease of serviceability of this laptop, it is worth the entry price of a decent 1080p gaming rig. I want to give it a 5-star rating, but can’t due to Dell skimping on an extra stick of Ram, because of that, this gets a 4.5. The Dell G15 5530 keeps its design that's typical of Dell's G15 gaming laptop lineup. It features a sturdy build with a matte black finish, orange accents, and orange-backlit keyboard. The laptop feels solid and well-constructed, making it suitable for both gaming and everyday use. It is, however, a bit heavy for a laptop with a massive 330-watt ac power adapter. So, this is not going to be very conducive to portability. But with the power hungry i7 Intel processor with a base speed of 4.9 ghz, 14 cores, and the impressive RTX 4050, I can understand the need for the power supply. Not to forget the 6-cell lithium-ion battery. Yes, this laptop eats through battery life if not plugged in, so do not expect you will get more than 3-4 hours of play on battery. The 120Hz display provides smooth gaming visuals, reducing motion blur and making fast-paced games more enjoyable. The 15.6-inch screen size is a good size to provide a level of immersive gaming. Some might have preferred a higher refresh rate, especially for competitive gaming, but this G15 is an entry level “gaming” laptop and will be more than sufficient for any casual gamer or creator. With an Intel i7 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, the Dell G15 5530 delivers commendable gaming performance. It can handle modern games at 1080p resolution with ease, offering good frame rates and graphics quality. I can get an average of 60fps – 120fps on high for some games and must take it down to medium settings on graphic intensive games. The inclusion of a 1TB SSD ensures quick load times and snappy system responsiveness, which is crucial for a gaming laptop. And with 1TB, you have plenty of storage for a few big games stored on the device. There is a second slot to add another SSD if you really want to up the storage. You can control your game performance and settings with the included Alienware software to overclock the CPU. Advantage of having the 13th Gen i7 Intel, but without the addition of other essentials, it doesn’t pay to adjust these settings until you add the additional Ram. As I stated in the beginning, the 8GB of RAM may be a bit limiting, especially for multitasking or running memory-intensive applications alongside games. An upgrade to 16GB would be advisable for a smoother overall experience and I plan on upgrading to at least 16GB and maybe even 32GB as soon as possible. I’m sure the performance of this G15 will be phenomenal on a quick and inexpensive upgrade. The serviceability of this laptop makes it an easy upgrade and should be considered due to the reasonably priced ram on the market now. Now to the basics, the keyboard is comfortable for typing and gaming, with responsive keys and an orange back lighting. The touchpad is precise and works well for everyday tasks, although most gamers would likely prefer an external gaming mouse for gaming sessions. The laptop offers a good selection of ports, including USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, and an Ethernet port. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 for fast wireless connectivity. The laptop's cooling system does a decent job of keeping temperatures in check and doesn’t get loud at all. In conclusion, the Dell G15 5530 gaming laptop offers a good balance of performance and affordability. It's a capable machine for gamers who want to enjoy their favorite titles without breaking the bank. However, consider upgrading the RAM for a smoother multitasking experience, and be aware of the limited battery life during gaming. Overall, it's a solid choice for mid-range gaming enthusiasts.

I immediately noticed how heavy this laptop is. That might be a con for some people, but with this weight you know it will be stable while you are playing. The keyboard is fine and the like that it was backlight. The trackpad was very small. It takes some getting used to. Works well with most of my games but it does struggle at higher performance settings. Note, this only comes with 8GB of memory and I would recommend to bumb it up to 16GB. The graphics were pretty spectacular even on the low settings, no complaints there. The speakers are slightly better than most laptops that are out there, but I would still prefer to use my headphones. The webcam is pretty crappy quality, so make a note of that if you are thinking of taking meetings on this laptop in addition to your gaming. Battery life is decent, when gaming I was able to play for a couple of hours before the battery died on me. There are no thermal issues since the fans constantly come on, even during light usage, but they are very quiet and you really don't notice them. This is a very good budget/mid tier gaming laptop, but I wouldn't use this for a work from home option.

The Dell G15 5530 Gaming Laptop with the Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card is a pretty good gaming laptop. The i7 processor and RTX 4050 graphics card allowed me to play most games without issues. The 120Hz display helps with fast paced motion when playing my first-person shooter games, such as Call of Duty. Aesthetically, it looks good, although it is plastic. It is heavy and comes with a very large power brick. It has a decent sized 1TB SSD and has 8GB of included RAM. It would have been better to have 16GB of RAM, but the RAM is easily upgradeable. There is hardly any bloatware pre-installed on the laptop that allows it to operate quickly and efficiently out of the box. The battery life of the laptop is not great, so make sure that run in battery saver mode when you are not connected directly to the power brick. The layout of the keyboard is good and the backlit feature is nice. The touchpad was smooth and responsive, although I prefer to use a mouse. The laptop has good cooling with plenty of vents and it doesn’t get too hot while gaming. It does come with a front facing camera, but it is not compatible with Windows Hello. The Wi-Fi connection was fast with the included Wi-Fi 6 wireless card and can also be connected to the network with a cable through a gigabit ethernet connection. Overall, I am pleased with this laptop and recommend it if you are looking for a good mid-tier gaming laptop.

The Dell G1 5TH 15.6" gaming laptop is a capable mid- range gaming laptop as my title suggests. It is capable of handling most of todays newest games out there albeit you would probably run most of these games on medium settings to get the best performance. Let's talk about the specifications. The Dell G1 5TH has a 15.6' FHD 120Hz display (non-touch screen) which I find smooth and clear. For storage it comes with a 1TB SSD which is adequate enough to store a few games at most and I would probably upgrade it. The graphics processor that the G1 5TH comes with is a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 which is definitely a step up from the 30 series line of GPU's. The processor is a Intel Core I7. Then there is the 8GB of memory that is included in the Dell G15 pretty anemic for any kind of gaming setup to be honest and should be upgraded immediately to get better performance. Build quality I would say is also mid tier as the outer shell is all plastic and the laptop itself when closed is a bit chunky in my opinion. It would say the cooling system is pretty efficient and fans do not get too loud and do a great job of cooling. Dell's description is an Alienware-inspired thermal design that consists of four heat pipes and two fans. The Dell G15 also sport a large charging brick and honestly I always keep it plugged in when playing any games so I could not report on battery life. If you are looking for a mid-tier/mid-price gaming setup the Dell G15 is a good choice but I would beware of the 8GB of ram that you would have to upgrade. I also would get this on sale and not pay full price. As I am writing this review it is on sale for $250 off the retail price with that in mind this would be an ook price to pay for the specs you get.
