I never got it home from the Geek Squad because of the problems they had setting it up.

I am a Best Buy Elite Plus member so I have purchased a lot of computers in the past year including numerous desktops, laptops and monitors. I have used/built computers since 1980 when the first PCs where first available... the following is my opinion/experience about this laptop. I gave it 3 stars because the computer does work, had decent specs and functions properly. BUT... the computer does come with Windows 8.0 as advertised (not 8.1 by luck) and before you can upgrade to 8.1 you have to do a lot of updates to 8.0. The touchpad did not have the scrolling and multi-touch functionality until we tracked down the driver and installed it. Also does not have Dell monitor software installed, thus it does not go out and fetch hardware updates and we had to do all of these manually. However, before we got as far as updating all the hardware and all of Windows 8.0 - Windows kept asking for a valid activation key. A key was already entered in Windows, but it was invalid. Contacted Geek Squad, they said check under laptop for sticker, under battery (after unscrewing the bottom of laptop and battery) and there was nothing. They said we would have to go into a Best Buy for further assistance. There was no documentation in the box with the computer except the warranty card and packing slip. It appears the computer was just wiped clean and NO additional software installed such as Dell monitor, hardware updates, etc. It was strange because we did have to go through the Windows setup/customization routine upon first use, but obviously the OS had already been registered in the past. Went to BB Geek Squad store... they said something went wrong when Dell did the refurb, but had no idea what/why and the computer would have to be sent off for "repair" (1 week) or returned. We opted to just cut our time loss and potential future update issues. It was very disappointing that we tried to have a simple experience (order online, ship to door, etc.) but instead we had to go through all the update process, go to the Best Buy, wait for Geek Squad and still got no reasonable near-term resolution and then still had to shop for yet another laptop. At the price we paid (not sure I can mention that) I cannot recommend this product since we had to do so much work to get it updated... and since the Windows activation key seems to be a pattern based on reviews (and the amount of trouble required to rectify it) it looks like the odds high you will also experience this problem.

Lost all faith in GS Certified

Found a GSC Dell 7000 for $198 below cost. It was exactly what I'd needed for a client. The deal seemed too good to be true, for timing or price. Immediately after starting it for the first time, I could not get the keyboard to communicate. The backlit portion worked, it could be turned on and off, the touchpad worked, but the keys did not work at all. Trying to save the sale, I opted to swap out the keyboard with another Dell non-backlit keyboard. I ended up with the same results. Turns out that the motherboard connection for the keyboard was bad. THIS was Geek Squad Certified. Had an "Agent #" on it and all.. Not sure how it passed any test without a working keyboard. I find it hard to believe that they even did anything past turn in on. I often search the open box sections looking for deals, which I do get lucky on, but I am 1 for 4 on Geek Squad Certs, so I'm done. This was the last straw. Only two weeks prior, I ordered online a GSC HP which gave the eminent battery replacement warning on first boot. No faith. I warn thee - enter with caution.

Could not use. Windows 8 Product Key Invalid.

This was such a poor experience that I hesitate to purchase another item from Best Buy, even though I've spent over $5000 there in the last 10 months. Laptop arrived in two days and looks like new with no blemishes. Tried to set up laptop with all my personal preferences and can't. Error saying "Windows is not activated. Windows Product Key is invalid. You can contact the store you purchased from or purchase a new product key." This begins my tale of perpetual run-around. Called Geek Squad. Long run around with four transfers and one complete hang up (they actually did call me back though). They can't help over the phone, bring the unit to a local store. Went to store, talked to Geek Squad, they can only send the laptop out to be repaired. It will be back in 3-4 weeks!! They said my other options were to just return the laptop or try calling Dell support. I chose to call Dell support the next day because the unit has full Dell warranty yet per their website. Called Dell support, they will not even discuss any repairs without me confirming with them the registered owner's name. Duh, the unit was sold previously and registered, then refurbished and sold again! I have no idea who purchased the laptop originally! Dell support was very unhelpful and said I could submit an ownership transfer form online. I went the to form and the first step is to enter the previous owner's information (name, address). What the heck, I don't know that stuff! I asked Dell support if I could just enter Best Buy's information to get the request to submit. They said they didn't know and just to try it. I submitted the form using Best Buy's info and it said my request will be processed within 10-15 days! This thing's going back! No help from anyone involved. I have to either buy a new laptop for more money, or order another refurb and hope it's better.

I simply got hooked on the design!

OMG! OMG! OMG! I looove this laptop! First, it arrived on time and as scheduled in shipping. Before buying this laptop, I got myself aware of all the reviews about this model/design particularly: no DVD/CD drive, flat keyboard whose letters need more traveling, its weight, and the screen resolution. The first 2 points are right but they don't bother me much. I just need to get used to the fact that my laptop is more like my smart phone and then things are good. I work as a graphic designer and I haven't used my design programs on it yet. However, I can tell that the screen is NOT terrible on its highest resolution. As for the weight, I confess it's not as light as other laptops of the same screen-size and slim design. Yet, that's what I expect from a sturdy laptop like Dell. I found the webcam pretty good & of good resolution. The upgrade to Win 8.1 was effortless. I like the back-lit keyboard and its design. I personally don't like that this laptop has a side numeral keyboard, unlike my previous 15" Dell laptop, and that the mouse pad doesn't scroll up & down (may be I haven't discover how to set it yet!) I simply got hooked up on the design of this laptop and I couldn't resist buying it for a such a wonderful price. If the necessity to use a DVD arises, I can always use the one in our desktop at home. Geeksquad has included a 1-year warranty, to which I'm very comfortable to have. I recommend this laptop to everyone!

I bought this laptop in the last week. The main problems include that the windows did not activate, because the product key was blocked by Microsoft; and the battery is not charging. Finally I had to return it.
