When I was looking to replace my PC I started by looking in the nearby Best Buy store. The inventory was limited so I started looking at Laptops and All-in-One's. My experience with laptops was limited so I spoke to a young man who was more than eager to assist. I told him what I used a computer for, I am disabled and spend a lot of time on social networks, listening to music, things like that. My budget is limited so he showed me some laptops that fit my budget as well as my uses. The Dell Inspiron 14 Fit the bill perfectly. Easy to setup and easy to use. I am very happy.

    Good basic little machine

This is a good little machine. It does not pack a lot of power but the it is fast enough to get minor task done. It will be good for jotting down notes for school work, for business or just a little portable entertainment machine or all of the above. 2 GB of ram seems to be enough and the Intel processors are suitable. The only thing that kills it but not terribly is the 32 GB of storage. It is a Sandisk eMMC flash drive so it is lighting fast and Microsoft does allow you to change your default save locations to your favorite SD card, flash drive or external drive for pictures, videos and documents, unfortunately not apps though. Battery life is where this thing shines. You can almost leave the power cord at home as this thing gets 6 to 9 hours on a single charge. The only reason I took off a star is the storage, although I know this is made to be like a Chromebook that is running Windows 10 and also the Web browsing with IE and Edge suffers even with a fast connection. But I think that is Microsoft's deal as the browsers don't handle ads on the Web pages well. That is what makes them hang. They load fast but hang while ads are loading. I also took off a star for the speakers. They are pretty bad but head phones sound decent with Dell's audio software. It also comes with a one (1) year subscription to Microsoft Office 365 which allows you to install Office 2016 on this machine, or another PC or Mac of your choice and a tablet. The license key is in the box. Just launch Office from the Start menu and click activate All in all if you need a little light portable machine for Email, school work, business and light Web at a low cost, this is a cool machine.

It has surpassed all of my expectations. It is a perfect secondary machine for those who need to perform some small office work, email and web surfing. I purchased the item when it was on sale for $180. Definitely worth every penny. My only concern was that it did not have much internal memory but then again you can utilize cloud storage and external drives to remedy the issue. The Windows 10 OS does take a large amount of space but is still functional for everyday use. Overall Dell has made a great product at a very affordable price point

It's a good computer if you don't plan to push it too hard. It has minimal memory/ram but it does everything I need for school. I use all of the Microsoft Office, the Internet, and the kindle app on my PC. No issues so far. The battery life is wonderful and that's the main reason I bought it. It's super light and I can hardly tell its in my backpack. It's a nice computer for students who walk around campus a lot. Over all I like it.

I have no problem with this laptop. It is what it is--an inexpensive Internet machine with decent graphics and a bare-bones lightweight makeup. My last laptop lost its hard drive in 3 yrs and DVD burner in 2 yrs. Seeing computers without these things doesn't bother me too much. External DVD drives cost about $20-40 and 1TB USB drives are not much more. You get cloud storage to make up for not having a hard drive, which seems to be the way of the future. As well, there's a hookup with a year of Office 365 which I guess is a requirement when you can't load office on a hard drive. The main thing people need storage for these days is graphics programs, Office, games, pics and vids. You can put all your pics and vids on external USB drives which are super-cheap now. And this thing isn't fast enough for games and graphics. Which takes me back to my point--it is what it is, and if that's all you need then save yourself some money and go for it.

    Keyboard lacking

Maybe I should read the documentation but the keyboard is missing the Home and End keys so there must be some key combination that will do that for you...Shouldn't have to read documentation for something so simple, it should just be there. Its not like there is not enough space for the keyboard, there is plenty. The response of the page up and page down keys is a little querky as well, holding down the page up or page down button should create a scrolling function but it seems to jump real fast. Again...read the doc. The laptop is light, seems to have a good battery life so far. The SOLID STATE DRIVE makes the boot time very fast. It is an inexpensive little laptop that fit my needs. I search the web, shop Amazon and Craigs list, and play some solitare. I am a frequent light user, on it alot but no heavy file storage or usage. I don't want to download games or a lot of apps so the miminal storage is fine for me. So far I love it but with the weird key functionality wish I had gotten a touch screen but didn't want to pay the price!

Overall this is a great laptop. It's basic, I chose one without the 'bells and whistles' available on many other ones. My main goal was to use it for social media and etsy. The reason why it's lacking a star is due to the fact that it's a bit slower than I expected it to be, even right out of the box. It's not horrible, but can be a little frustrating when you want to work with more than one page at a time.

Only 2 Gb ram. Easy fix. Ram is dirt cheap. 32 Gigs hard drive ...With the cloud, thumb drives & external cd/DVD, I am ok. Have a 1T desktop I use for my Corel software & bill pay etc. It is slow for high intensity gaming. It Is a Nice light unit. Well made & expandable for just a few extra bucks. I enjoy it.

My old computer crashed, and I needed a new one for school ASAP. I wouND up finding this on the open box shelf. It was still brand new, but cheaper than regular price. The only problem I have is that it can get a little sluggish. It's basically just for school so I haven't played around all too much in it.

I needed a new laptop but nothing fancy and I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I picked this one after consulting with the Best Buy sales person. It was easy to set up but after I started using it, I found out it is woefully short on memory, The operating system takes up most of the memory with very little left over to store files. Given an opportunity to spend a little more money to get a better laptop with more storage, I would go that direction

Needed a couple cheap laptops for work and these were the best we could find on a budget. Not knowing anything about Windows 10, there was a bit of a learning curve but with a little time, you'll feel right at home. Some of the apps didn't sync well (Windows Mail in particular) and there are A LOT of popups for the included bloatware. Storage is also minimal but this is more or less supposed to be a step up between a netbook and a laptop, basically a larger netbook. If you are looking for something with impressive specs or a gaming laptop, look elsewhere. That said, it burns through the web, looks great and has never had connectivity issues or locked up. Great PC, it I didn't have mine from the office I would buy one for around the house, the coffee shop, etc.

I love this laptop. I got this in a deal for $130 and also with a 1 year office 365 which is worth $60. It is a very good product for this price. It has a nice build quality and the screen is also big and the keyboard keys are nicely arranged. The mouse is okay and I am not a big fan of it. The laptop runs fine when running light Wei applications. It gets a little choppy when you open multiple softwares at a time. I would recommend this to a person who uses laptop for light Weight stuff like browsing, watching movies, using word, and checking email. It is a great product for beginners or light users.

The device was good for what I needed - basic browsing, some Office - nothing stressful for the laptop. But the Windows 10 that initially came loaded was an early version and didn't have some necessary functionality. So first step was to update Windows. But there wasn't enough disk space to load the updates, and this early version didn't have the critical Win10 feature to save programs to an additional drive such as an SD card. So you can't get there from here! I had to completely reinstall Windows (there's plenty of resources in the interweb to guide you thru this using the MS Media Creation Tool - it was easy). After that, this laptop performed great. Not real speedy, but sufficient for what I needed.

Really is not much more than a Microsoft answer to a ChromeBook. For someone that only access the internet it's a great starter laptop but be prepared to set up a lot of shortcuts for storage and make sure that whoever is using it has an online email. Bought for my mother-in-law who doesn't have much use for more than facebook and gmail which this is just fine for

The price was right, all I wanted this computer for was MS Word & Excel. After loading this free program for 1 year trial, it basically took up the memory on this computer. I would suggest more memory if you were to use this for games and photo storage.

Nice hardware, but barely enough for Windows 10

Dell sells a series of 14" laptops and this is the lowest end model. I think the hardware is reasonable for simple word processing and web browsing, but not spectacular. Display- about the same as my older (2012) Acer. Not fancy, but looks fine. Processor- the Celeron N3050 is fairly slow Passmark says about 40% as fast as the i3 in my old laptop. It loads Windows and Edge fast enough for me. I installed LibreOffice for word processing and it is OK for that. Keyboard- nicer than my old Acer Memory- its up-gradable to 4 GB (I think by replacing the 2 GB module), but so far its been OK with 2 GB. Disk- this is the Achilles heal of this laptop. It has a 32 GB eMMC drive, which is nice in having no moving parts, but is NOT up-gradable and Windows 10 really needs the entire 32 GB to function (see below). SD card reader- cheap model that is not spring-loaded, so the SD card sticks out about a quarter inch- this is my biggest worry- that I will break off the end of it while using the laptop. The weight is a little high for a small laptop, but this is because the battery is removable and the memory is up-gradable, its not optimized to minimize weight. I like these features. When I got the computer, the eMMC drive said it had a capacity of 28 GB, with 14 GB free. Windows 10 has an option to have apps, documents, etc saved by default to another drive (go to Settings and choose Storage). I had also bought a 32 GB SD card (uses a full size card) and told Windows 10 to use that. Edge allows setting the downloads directory to an alternate location, but not where it stores temporary internet files. Best I could do was have them deleted on exiting Edge. The first thing that happens on this machine is Windows 10 updates. When it gets done, there is only 1 GB of free space on the C drive. In fact, after this update, a whole series of additional updates failed for lack of space. This is mostly because Windows stores an old copy of itself that presumably takes up 11 GB of space (the Windows free space tool said 22 GB! OS seems very buggy). On deleting that (search for Cleanup, choose Disk Cleanup and Clean up system files) and letting the other updates run, I had about 9 GB left. I don't feel I can use this space- I think Windows needs it for updates. This laptop is supposed to come with a free year of Office 365, but I have not tried to install it, as I am not sure there is any room! The Windows update also corrupted the SD card. After rebooting to finish the Windows update, Windows said there was a problem with the SD card, it offered to fix it, but failed (repeatedly). I eventually got the card fixed- force ejected it from the PC, put it in my old laptop (Windows 7) which also said it was corrupt, but repaired it! Putting the card back in the Windows 10 laptop- card worked again! So if nothing else, this purchase confirmed that not upgrading the old laptop to Windows 10 was a smart move. I got the laptop at a Black Friday sale price. At that price I am happy enough with the purchase. I just wanted something basic I could take on trips or use around the house without worrying about trashing a spinning hard drive. If I was going to have just one laptop, I would save up for something with an i3, even though they start about 50% more than this laptop's regular price. Otherwise, I think you will end up frustrated at some point.

I bought this at a ridiculously low price during a great 4-6 hour sale that Best Buy has from time to time. I needed a spare / simple Windows Laptop without any bells or whistles. This is more of a cloud computing laptop. That means while using it, anything you need to save or store would need to be to the cloud such as OneDrive. The onboard storage is only 32GB of ram. That is enough for the operating system to function but any storage such as documents, music & photos should go to the cloud. I would also recommend that as far as performing Windows updates to this laptop, you be experienced with managing the storage you are given. Updates require spare space on the EMMC storage and sometimes you may need to delete / use Disk Cleanup to free up unused system files from previous updates. The laptop is lightweight and solid. I like the feel of the keyboard. This is not a complaint but please be aware this laptop does NOT have a cd / dvd drive NOR is the keyboard backlit.

Nowadays a laptop needs to have at least enough memory to have all the office suite applications. Once you download all that into the laptop, there is barely enough memory for other things. You will definitely need an external Hard Drive if you want to add more applications and have the ability to save your work. I would have give it a 5 if there would have been more memory (it is super cheap in this time an age and it is unconceivable that this laptop has only such small amount of memory)! Other than that, Dell is a great laptop.

The display is a little dim especially working off on battery power and of course on full brightness. Keyboard is flexible but only if you really exert force on it. Painfully slow when using a browser and navigating to multimedia-rich sites. This excels in battery life since there is a flash drive as a main storage. If you're using this to just type out something then it's fine. Otherwise save a little more money and get something in the $600 range for a notebook.
