I have had MANY problems with this computer since I have had it and it makes me frustrated because the point of getting a Dell was to save a little money and to have a new reliable device that would last me another 6-7 years like my previous HP and Toshiba. Each had their own issues but it took them 2 years before any problem occurred. This computer was purchased Nov 2019 and has crashed twice about a month apart. First time right before California went into Shelter in Place 3/15 and the second today in the middle of work 4/23. Both problems were related to the Bios. It would blue screen, shut down, run diagnostics and then work ok temporarily for maybe a day and then would stop working altogether. I had an engineer friend of mine take a look at it and says it is more likely a hardware issue vs a software issue. I did a factory reset once and it worked fine for a month and then crashed again today. Other problems include -Computer never fully goes into sleep mode. It sleeps for maybe an hour or a few hours then turns back on. I put it in sleep mode then put it in my case/backpack and will hear a notification bell ding within 5 min or less. -If I sleep the computer and carry it with me during the day, it will turn on by itself and overheat because the fan is running. Overheats in general very easily -there is no way to save files or other information to the hard drive. Everything automatically saves to the ssd drive (which is smaller) and if i want it to be saved to the hard drive, i have to manually move it over. -Design flaw - why is the speaker underneath by the fan? It creates a very muffled sound when headphones are not plugged in and also if music is playing from the laptop, I think it contributes to the laptop overheating like when editing video or music with sound. -First week I had it, laptop had scratchy sound with a lot of feedback when music would play. Driver was wiped and reinstalled twice before it worked again. After that, my headphones would not work when plugged into the computer. With headphones plugged in, sound would come out of the speaker. When the headphones would work, then music would not cooperate with my bluetooth speaker. If the bluetooth speaker worked correctly, then the sound would not work through headphones again and play through the speaker. That problem took 2 days to solve from best buy and Dell. This purchase was a disappointment on several levels. I wanted this computer to last 6 years not 6 months and I can’t afford to get rid of this computer completely and buy a new one during the covid 19 crisis BUT unfortunately I am a dance teacher/educator that is now forced to work from home via ZOOM and need to have some kind of computer to function. To have a new device crash once based off of “something i downloaded” vs a hardware problem (according to Dell....second time it crashed, I hadn’t downloaded any new software) the first time and then crash the second time in the middle of a zoom class, disappointed is an understatement. Not only were there overall problems with my purchase but customer service experience with Best Buy is always a nightmare in store and over the phone. No one ever has the answer for the problem, stores don’t answer phones, many customer service agents are arrogant and rude/everyone points fingers and never comes to a resolution and there is never accurate information from one agent to the next. I should have saved a little more money and sprung for an HP or an ASUS. Overall, I won’t recommend this laptop, and would recommend looking anywhere else to buy a laptop cause best buy sucks.

I bought this computer open-box certified for school while it was on sale. Barely two months in, and the fan has begun to wheeze so loudly and consistently, I can barely stand to use it. It's so obnoxious while I'm in class trying to take notes! The size of the screen, weight of the computer, and numeric keypad are all great and just what I was looking for in a laptop, but the noise from the fan is absolutely unacceptable. I'd expect this kind of noise coming from a laptop a few years old, not a few months. If Dell doesn't reach out to me through this review directly, you better believe I'll be contacting them about my warranty.

      Hi chelsea12,

We're sorry to hear about the fan noise that you're experiencing with your new laptop. We'd recommend updating the BIOS on your computer and see if this helps with the fan noise: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

I consistently lose sound for video and a red ‘x’ shows up on the volume icon. The only way to restore it is by restarting the entire computer then within a few minutes it reappears. I’m hugely disappointed in the laptop as I paid nearly $900 for it, but mostly with Best Buy’s lack of concern, consideration and options. I’ve literally had the laptop since July 6, 2019 and have been asking for help since the 2nd week to no avail.

      Hi TammyWatts64,

We're sorry to hear about the issues with sound that you're having on your computer. Have you considered a system refresh? Here are the steps you can try:

Windows 10 is capable of resetting all of its system files without affecting your personal data.
      Refresh will do the following:

      • Reinstalls Windows 10 and keeps your personal files.
      • Removes apps and drivers you installed.
      • Removes changes you made to settings.
      • Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.)

To get started with a refresh of your system files, follow these steps:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "reset".
      2. Select Reset this PC (System Setting).
      3. Under Reset this PC, select Get Started.
      4. Select the option to Keep my files.
      5. Note any apps or drivers that will need to be reinstalled after the refresh has completed.
      6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the refresh process. This will take some time and your computer will restart.

Click here to read the full article: https://dell.to/2VGi4F3.

We hope that these steps will help your computer perform better for you.

      Best,
      Bryan

      elitemember99,

We're sorry to hear about the issues that you've had with your computer so far. If you are still having trouble turning your computer on you can try these steps:

      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.
      7. For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. In case you have a Desktop at the Dell logo screen tap the F12 key to enter One Time Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to highlight Diagnostics and press enter.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uj1Sby.

If you'd like help with your computer freezing in the future, we'd suggest the following:

      1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
      2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below:
      a) Start the computer.
      b) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.)
      c) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter.
      d) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access.
      e) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete step 3 to see if you are able to resolve the lockups or freezing.
      3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can definitely cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. To check for malware on your system and to ensure that your computer is up to date on security software, visit Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2wWP1zI.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tW5m33.

Lastly, Dell products come with a One Year Limited Warranty, if you'd like to read the terms of the warranty, you can view them here: http://dell.to/2tNsVOs.

      Best,
      Bryan
