I've only had it a short time, but am pleased with it. I gave it 4 stars as I think it could include more documentation. However it is fast and I am happy with it.

    Do Not Buy

I'm a developer and my old laptop took a sudden nose-dive back in March, so I had to rush to my local Best Buy and make an impromptu decision, only able to spend a couple hours looking at what they had available and hastily Googling the options. And boy, has that come back to haunt me. I have never been so unsatisfied with a freshly purchased machine. I was very surprised how slow the laptop was fresh out of the box. Buy hey, I figured with its components having such large capability in such a small package, there was bound to be a bit of sluggishness and it would fall into a rhythm... Nope. It was just slow from the get-go, even without my software installed. Now here I am, nearly 6 months later, already researching a new laptop to purchase because I just can't stand it anymore. I can't even run Illustrator and Photoshop at the same time without my system coming to a grinding halt, resulting in Photoshop ALWAYS crashing. My friend and I play a game together and I managed to get my old 5-year-old 4GB notebook up and running so he could use it to play and the older machine runs the game better than my new 16GB laptop, even on the LOWEST graphic settings and nothing running in the background. The Wi-Fi is constantly fading in and out, even when I'm sitting right next to the router. I have all non-essentials programs disabled as my startup preferences, and it still takes sometimes 5-10 minutes just to boot up - FROM DAY ONE. The ports are also very loose and shoddy. My ethernet cable is CONSTANTLY falling out and the USB on the right side of it stopped working last month. Don't even get me started on the awful, non-responsive trackpad. It's so bad, I still pull out my mouse when I just need to boot the laptop up for a moment to send out a quick email or double-check the status of a server. I have no comments on the touchscreen as I don't use it. Aesthetically, it looks and feels nice. I like the keyboard (I'm very particular about my keyboards). But it doesn't make up for the overall functionality. I wouldn't care if my laptop was pink and shaped like a character from My Little Pony, as long as it allowed me to do my job for at least ONE DAY without giving me any grief. My life is on the computer. I keep them clean, I keep them safe, I know how to remove junkware and keep them maintained. I would buy a Compaq before buying this machine again. I will be replacing this laptop very soon. And I sure as sugar won't be buying it from Best Buy because the employees there know less about computers than the 7-year-old who dropped my last one on the tile.

Vanderbeam, Thank you for your Dell laptop purchase and for your honest review. Hopefully, we can offer you a few tips to increase the effectiveness of your device. For your trackpad concerns, we'd recommend that you try some of these steps in order to have the trackpad work the way that you intend it to: Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:
      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
We hope that some of these steps, as well as the support that you can find at www.support.dell.com, will help your computer function the way you intended it to. Dell

I bought this laptop about a year ago because my old one became almost a fire hazard. I decided to go with this one because of its i7 processor, 16gb of ram, 1tb hard drive, and 3 USB ports. I have absolutely no problem using it with google or any multiple different apps open at once. I use it to record videos at 1920x1080 resolution no problem with an elgato recording gameplay from an Xbox One. It starts to run into problems when I start to stream or play games on it. Whenever I try to stream with 3 of my applications on I must use a cbr encoder and lower the resolution from 1080 to 720 and if I make sharp jagged movements it will get blurry really quick but go away as fast as it came in. I also run into problems while trying to game one it with no extra applications running. It seems to max out around 117-119 FPS while sitting at the home screen in a game of counterstrike and get about 90 in game on lowest settings and 720 resolution. Another problem I have with this laptop is that it doesn’t have an external battery. Since I’ve used it as basically a desktop for such a long time I’m beginning to ruin the battery and have the battery life slowly deminish as i only get about 3 and a half hours on a full charge with battery saver mode on. I feel like this laptop is great for paperwork and surfing the internet but not as a gaming computer, even though it’s not marketed as one, I feel as though it should run better than it does.
