Really pleased with this laptop. NOT for gamers (does't have enough processing, RAM, video card, etc.) but great for everyday work. Love it converts to a tablet. I bought the pen that enables you to mark up and sketch, etc. $35 on Amazon (don't bother with the Dell pen that's 3X the cost) Doesn't have a NIC card, so if you want to hard wire an Ethernet cord, you're out of luck (also doesn't have a phone/RJ45 port, but who in the heck uses dial up anymore or needs to connect to a phone?!) Nice, professional finish, solid feel. Go with the SSD drive. Boots up super fast, cool and quiet. 256GB plenty enough for average, everyday computing and with so much going on the cloud these days, I doubt I'l ever fill it up. Finger print reader is slick. Doubles as a power button, ultra thin and very fast/accurate. The only quirky thing is does from time to when connected via HDMI cable to a monitor is it boots up in tablet/rotated mode so you have to open the lid/close again and it corrects. I got a killer deal on my laptop. Open box (just had some minor cosmetic scratches) for $414 vs. $699! Over 50% savings. If you can snag an open box one, do it. Just as good as new and carries the same manufacturers warranty.

I had some issues with the onscreen keyboard not showing up, and the laptop heating up after use. It was also heavier than is convenient for tablet use. Right out of the box it was much slower than an SSD should be and had a shorter battery life than expected. I returned it for a Lenovo 2 in 1.

      Jordan,

Were sorry that your computer is not performing the way that you hoped it would. We'd recommend the following tips to help your computer operate cooler for you:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

If you'd like tips on extending your computer's battery life, here are some ideas: Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

Lastly, if you'd like to see if your computer can perform faster for you, please try to run the Windows Performance Troubleshooter:

      1. Close all open windows.
      2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
      3. Click Control Panel.
      4. Click System and Security.
      5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
      6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
      7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
      8. Restart the PC.

I purchased this laptop in a deal. For the price I bought it is very good deal. However when I was trying to upgrade there are minimum options. 1. Hard drive upgrade - you have either remove the old SSD and add upgraded one or add normal hard drive. You can’t add one more SSD drive as there is only one SSD slot. 2. RAM upgrade.. there are two 4 gb RAM on both slots.. so you have to remove one to upgrade more RAM.

After conversion of files and setting up MS Office I have found the Dell to be easy to use and quite an improvement over the previous generation custom-made laptop I replaced. I use it as my main computer so I use a separate keyboard at home with the mouse. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Moving all files from my 2011 laptop to this machine took about 3 hours. This Dell starts quickly, and has a great keyboard and display. I've yet to use the touchscreen capacity. It's a touch heavier than I'd hoped but still lighter than I'm used to. I mainly use Microsoft Office suite, a pdf maker, scanner and printer, as well as web searching.

The anti virus was already expired because it was a store demo. Went to see a store clerk and he said I could buy one over there pointing to the anti virus area. Very disappointed in the customer service. I figured I should have at least had the 90 day trial to start. Other than that I recommend this laptop with the caveat make sure it has anti virus to start.

Bought it for my dad who isn't too computer savvy. While the laptop itself is pretty good, all the bloat that it comes with can be really annoying for a novice who just needs something that starts and goes. My dad replaced this with a Surface laptop.

I bought this computer for college because I was told it was pretty universal, and that is very true. I am currently using it as a gaming laptop during the simmer before college and it’s working great. I have also downloaded several things for college and performance is impacted very little. Battery life is limited but overall a very good laptop
