I've had this laptop for about a month and I am overall happy with it. I would like it to start-up and shut-down faster. All else works ok. I noticed an Intel update was not successful after making all the initial updates. Since the update never reappeared I don't think it was a problem. Doesn't make a lot of noise. It is very heavy which makes it tough to carry around. The battery lasts about 2 hours fully charged. I do keep it on maximum battery saver mode. A few weeks after I purchased, it went on sale for $100 off. I would have like to take advantage of that discount. The touchscreen works well. The keyboard is easy to use and so is the touch pad. I haven't had any issues with it yet. I got 2 year ADH protection and GS 24/7. Hope it lasts me for several years.

This laptop is great for a variety of uses, and so far I have loved most of the features. I use it to take notes in class (2 in 1 touchscreen function with onenote program), to do online homework, for watching youtube and Netflix, and for gaming. The processor is astoundingly fast, the audio is great, it has a huge screen that makes viewing nice, and it runs games like a champ. I have just a couple complaints/warnings, one being that the laptop has a tendency to overheat when gaming for much longer than an hour or so. I was warned of this beforehand, but it is still worth noting if you plan to use a laptop for mainly gaming of 2+ hours straight. The other

This is a pretty powerful laptop considering that it is a 2-in-1. It's thin enough to use as a tablet but a 17" screen is a little cumbersome. You'll need to take advantage of the USB-C port to add an ethernet port if you need one.The Dell adapter works well and can work as a mini docking station.

Was initially interested in sticking with a Sony Vaio, however, Best Buy's selection was in short supply. After looking at several laptops with 8th gen i7 processors, I landed on this one due to the memory and processing speed. I would like to have more USB ports but it's nothing that can't be solved with a USB jack. No disc drive as well so this laptop is VERY thin. It is a little over 19 inches wide (about an inch wider than my than my previous laptop) so finding a backpack that will accommodate this laptop can be a little tricky. HDMI port is a great feature as well.

I had been shopping for a few months waiting for the right deal to arrive. I purchased this for $800 on sale and with the student discount. That was cheaper than most 15 inch, non touchscreen with other similar specs.
Since brining it home I have used it regularly to work remotely. It boots a quick as any non SSD device that i have used. The fan is not loud and it does not run hot.
If I had a complaint it is only related to the facial recognition. I have configured it a few times but can not get it to work consistently.

Too slow considering it is 8th Gen. i7

The last laptop I purchased was a Dell with a 7th generation i7 chip, and Solid State Drive. It was lightning fast and I still have it. However, I needed a new laptop to meet my current needs. I purchased this 8th generation i7 as well expecting something similar in speeds. It's not even close! The laptop was slow compared to my 7th generation one. I thought the new laptop would be faster. It was so slow, I went back and a couple of hundred to replace the extremely slow SATA hard drive it came with. I bought a 1 TB solid state drive. Although it is much faster, it is still not as fast as my other two year old Dell laptop. Was expecting much more for the money. I highly recommend not getting it with the SATA hard drive. I do love the screen size and the body appears to be solid. I will keep it because the new speed with the SSD is acceptable, but I wouldn't keep it otherwise.

Terribly sorry that you've encountered slow speeds, Greg. Check out these troubleshooting steps to help with speed - Delete temporary files and directories 1. Click Start, then in the search bar type "disk". Disk Cleanup should appear on the menu above the search box. 2. Run disk cleanup and eliminate unneeded temporary files (Search results, Internet Cache and other windows temp files you may no longer need) 3. Select files you want to delete then click OK to start the cleanup process. Uninstall applications you no longer use 1) Open the Programs and Features application in Control Panel. 2) Scan the list of applications installed for ones that you no longer use. 3) Highlight any application you no longer use and then click the uninstall button at the top of the list. Follow the prompts to uninstall. 4. Repeat for each application you want to uninstall. 5. Move large files and/or seldom used files to backup media (Photos, Music you seldom listen to, application downloads after the application has been installed etc.). 6. Empty the Recycle Bin. We encourage you to give us a call at 1 (800) 624-9897. Another great resource is Dell Supportassist, which can be located in the 'start' menu under 'all programs' in the Dell. We appreciate the feedback. - Chris

I purchased this laptop because I wanted a 17.3" screen for software development. So far this machine has been great, super fast after I upgraded to an NVMe SSD.
Pros:
-Easy to access the internals.
-M.2 SSD slot accepts NVMe SSDs. I installed a Samsung 960 Pro and it's running at full speed (see
attached benchmarks)
- I like the 2-in-1 design for occasional trips to the treadmill.
- It comes with 1 x 16GB DDR4 module, nice that you can upgrade to 32GB DDR4 easily
- Trackpad is fantastic. Microsoft precision drivers, everything works great.
- Great performance from the quad core. I can actually do software development on this with the SSD.
Cons
- I'm very picky about screens, the screen they use in these is slightly grainy but it doesn't bug me too much. If you are looking at white screens it's more noticeable. If you sit back a little further it's also less noticable...(I'm being nit picky here).
- Keyboard is nice but it could be better. The keys should be larger.
Overall it's tough to beat for the money. The 8th generation intel processor is incredibly fast and easy on battery.

It is probably too early to review, but BB is asking. So far, so good. My wife and I went to BB to see about getting Trend antivirus because the Kaspersky was not going to be supported by them any longer and we needed to renew. Plus, we needed a second battery replacement for our current Dell laptop at the time, and the BB Geek Squad person just said flat out if the battery is going bad, the hard drive probably is also. Were they telling the truth? I'll never know. We bought this right then and there based on that. There wasn't any problem with any of the Geek Squad or the salesman, but the salesman suggested an HP. I said no HP's at all. We lost a display on our previous HP computer, and I was lucky to get a copy of my data before it was gone completely. HP wound NOT support their product and so that was the end of HP in my lifetime, plus we have gotten good service from the previous Dell.
Anyway, I love the backlit keys because I can't see well anymore, and, I was not trying to get a touch screen laptop, but I love that feature also. Hopefully, not having a hard drive to wear out will pay off in the long run. It's nice to have a good battery and be able to unplug the PC and move it around. I wanted all the bells and whistles and we got them this time.

The touch screen is great. Beautiful Laptop for gaming or the office. I had to return the laptop because the screen had ghosting bad in one corner and one pixel was out. I bought this laptop that was returned by another customer and Geek Squad certified that it was like new. I guess they missed this upon they're inspection. Otherwise, I like Dell. Good Laptop.

After having stopped using Dell products, several years ago - a debacle of three bad product experiences in a row - I moved on to ASUS and HP machines. To be sure, my ASUS machine was issue-free, and a solid machine, though it lacked the touch screen feature I sorely required. My HP machines have been adequate, though grossly over-clocked and under cooled, leading to many freeze-ups and critical fails. Thus, when I found this new Dell laptop with all the features and horsepower I required, I decided it was time to take the leap, and give Dell another change. I have been pleasantly surprised by its styling, apparent durability, hardware assets and processing power. My reason, thus, for four stars instead of five, has to do with the initial start-up process. Everything was flying along, quite well, in the initial set-up and personalization automated process...until a set-up glitch made it necessary for me to return the device. The second device's set-up worked smoothly. I realize that all brands can deliver a DOA, once in awhile. Nonetheless, this is a review, and you need to know all the facts.

I love the extra "real estate" that comes with the 17.5 inch screen. I've been using this laptop for a couple of months now and am very impressed with the speed and the quality of the video.
Just re-read the description of the product and realized that it rotates 360 to turn it into a giant tablet. So, I tried it out and it sure does! Awesome!!!

As a personal preference, I enjoy large screens. For that matter, I like the flexibility a touch screen gives you. That being said, the first model I bought was defective, with the black screen of death being the evident culprit of my initial computer issues. After a return and exchange, the second model had some serious processing and downloading speed issues that drove me up the wall in trying to update the driver, install Windows 10, and just use it in general. Having said that, I didn’t buy this laptop to use its factory components or hardware with all the issues I have previously read with this model.
So, if you plan on using this from the start without making any extra modifications, mainly replacement of the hard drive, then you might want to look for something else. If you want this at half the price of a SSD model, then this laptop is for you.
