It has it's flaws- but is still a great machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took me a minute to really appreciate the detail that went into this laptop. I also own [or have owned] every Macbook/Air/Pro model, every Surface Pro/Book 2 model, Huawei Matebook X Pro, LG Gram 13 and 17 - so my experience with those machines certainly biases my review. I'll get the bad stuff out of the way first. 1. It's much too heavy for 2019. It's built like a tank, but I think they could've trimmed some of the weight without compromising quality. 2. The screen ratio is awful and the bottom bezel is too big. The things I love about this laptop: 1. The back-lit keyboard is a joy to type on. The keys are slightly textured, and the spacing/tactile feedback reminds me of a certain fruit-titled company's keyboards before they switched to butterfly keys. This keyboard is truly best in class at the moment. The chiclet keys are perfectly spaced. Key travel is satisfying and there's no flex in chassis whatsoever. I thought that the 10-key would be too cramped for a 15" laptop, but it's just big enough to use without making too many typos. The keyboard deck is slightly concave which allows the keyboard to be almost flush with the chassis without sacrificing key travel. It also allows you to type comfortably without needing to flex your wrists too much. There's a dedicated calculator button along with dedicated CE and +/- keys and a dedicated display management function key. These sound like trivial things, but if you work with numbers and data a lot, it's incredibly handy to have a shortcut built in. Another nice feature is that the backlit keyboard has an auto-shutoff feature - so if you start watching a movie, you don't have to toggle the backlight on/off manually. 2. The trackpad. Aesthetically it looks futuristic with the chrome trim and black surface [to match the rest of the laptop]. It's very responsive, solid, and well-built. It's probably one of the better trackpads I've used on a Windows laptop. As expected, it support multi-gesture. 3. The pen location is brilliant. I used to think that being able to attach the pen to the side of the screen was the best design ever, but after you realize how frequently it detaches in your bag. you'll appreciate how Dell cleverly hid the pen in the hinge of the laptop. It fits perfectly in it's magnetic cradle and the end of the pen is inset so that you can lift it out without much effort. The pen itself is really nice and weighted. It also has a rubberized grip. You can tell that a lot of love went into engineering the design of this laptop. 4. The 4K screen is gorgeous. I wish it were 2:3 ratio, but even with the horrible ratio (and considering that it's a touchscreen) - the colors pop and text is super clear. There's a little too much flex in the screen for my taste (when writing on it) -- but I haven't found a perfect screen for writing on any device yet. The dedicated GPU is enough to give a little boost when hooked up to an external display or when doing light editing work. The laptop is super quiet and has plenty of IO ports (HDMI, USB-C, USB A, microsSD, headphone jack). This is a great upper-midrange option for a 2 in 1.

It is good but charger and still an issue.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several dell’s because of the ease of use and familiarity with dell PCs at work. The issue is always the charger Portion that connects to the laptop which can be easily damaged. It sticks out about 1.5 inches, thus it is easily damaged just by daily use of pulling or pushing the connection into laptop. I am experiencing this issue again. How am I supposed to function working from home (we are not allowed to go back to work yet), while this is being fixed. Dell - I know this is not the first time anyone has brought this up. Your charger and connector have not changed since my first insipiron more than 10 years ago I believe. Each one I have had always had a similar issue.
