It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. I gleefully opened the box for this computer and slobbered with anticipation getting to try this unit - a computer that I had read much about and was enamored with it before using it that I might have been too gleeful. I'm no novice with computers so hooking up the unit was a breeze and I've seen enough Windows 10 machines that I know the set up routine and how long it should take. I sat before the screen and pushed the power button and nothing happened on the computer. The monitor kicked in and lit up so I knew there was something happening, but an eternity passed with nothing but a black screen. I turned the unit off and rebooted. More waiting. I turned it off and turned it back on again - a third time. I was horrified. I felt like the Great Pumpkin was not going to rise up for me on this Halloween, er, computer unboxing day. Suddenly error messages flashed on the screen - scan and repair - and then afterwards windows setup finally initiated only to fail and to shut down and reloop - wash, rinse, and repeat. Finally the windows set up completed and I was finally at desktop. And nothing - no input could be detected in response for at least 15 minutes. Frustrated, I went to make some coffee. Finally, the unit would respond - and slowly but surely it got a little faster. It went from a Pentium 150 in response times to about an i3 when it was building up speed. Windows updated and again the dreaded restart - but this time it managed to go through another scan and went to the desktop with some functionality - it was working, but not like something like this should work. I used Dell's scanner to review the hard drive's health and it came back "disk drive failure imminent" in red letters! I downloaded Seagate tools and had it do its long scan for over an hour and it would not complete. Frustrated, I turned it off and went to bed. Tick, tock, and seven hours later, I went to turn the machine on, and .... it was like a new computer - it was blazing fast - it was like the dream that I had wanted to live! I repeated the scans from the night before and had the same results. I called Best Buy and let them know what I had found and they contacted Dell and had a new one sent to me. THE SECOND COMPUTER This time I approached the box and unpacked it with trepidation - was I going to be sitting in the Pumpkin patch again with no hope of a rising Greatness before me? I pushed the power button and again the unit sat for about 20 seconds without indicating it was doing anything. I decided that patience would serve me better than to engage in despair, and then the computer started doing its thing - and within 10 minutes from power button to final windows setup, I was at a fully operational desktop that responded with the speed I was hoping for; I did the windows updates and it rebooted and all was well. I write this because you need to know the truth - the first unit was a dog because of a bad drive - but both Best Buy and Dell went out of their way to make this good. And I sit here writing this because two companies finally showed amazing customer service and went out of their way to make good. I had long abandoned desktop computers five years ago so I was not prepared for there to be a lack of a drive indicator light that shows you the drive is working (on something). Had there been such a light, I would have been more patient on the first machine. I've noted this issue with Dell so that it can be addressed. The computer is simply amazing - I dogged it playing some Starcraft II and then later some video editting with output in HD and this thing simply never blinked in the process. This is NOT an alienware machine - this is a budget gaming computer that can also do video editing work. You will not be disappointed - beef up the ram to 16 gb or up to the 32 max and you'll be very happy. I did not find this noisy at all - I expect fan noise of some kind - there are two in this unit that I could see and I've had older Dell desktops that were far noisier (not to mention the hurricane sound of the mirror doored mac tower from early in the 21st century). This is a nice compromise. Please consider this machine - Best Buy and Dell stood by me and made things as pleasant as can be and I know after 25 years of working on computers that hard drives like to pick their own time to go belly up - I don't blame Dell at all.

I used mainly AMD processors in my early computing life due to their outstanding performance per dollar compared to Intel chips. Despite the outstanding value, AMD's recent best processors could barely compete with lower end Intel Core I series...until now. AMD's Ryzen series can confidently go up against Intel's middle of the pack to upper tier level of processors and that makes me happy to switch back to AMD. First off this Inspiron 5675 Gaming PC is designed well and it shows with its sleek and cool looking desktop case. LED lit Dell logo combined with the diagonal grill split of the case chassis really looks good here. Opening the case reveals a clean but high end feeling interior that says gaming to me. Onto real world gaming performance. I tested the 5675 with Battlefield 1, Flight Simulator X and Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Max settings with BF1 and Oblivion is a cinch with this computer. Flight Simulator X had always been tough to run on higher settings with AMD chips until now. Ryzen is more than capable of tackling on this tough task and FSX ran with near optimal settings. The Ryzen 7 1700 combined with 16GB DDR4 RAM and the RX 580 graphics card make for a very underrated gaming machine here. Overall I am very impressed with this Dell gaming PC. I have never really associated Dell with elite gaming PC builds but with these newly released gaming desktops I am changing my mind already. Sleek desktop exteriors that match with the blazing fast performance on the inside. The CPU can be a little too noisy for my liking on full load but you can easily change the CPU fan to another brand. Excellent value overall and highly recommended.
