Unassuming Yet Beastly On A Budget

While this looks like an unassuming work PC, inside contains a beast. No, it’s not going to be pumping out native 4k 60fps on extremely intensive games like Battlefield 6 or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. But if you’re doing 1080p or even 1440p gaming with these intense games, you’re going to have a great time. Even with slightly less demanding games like Skate, I was hitting 80fps avg at 4k 240hz High settings. I am greatly impressed and think if you are a gamer on a low to mid-sized budget and are wanting a system that can be pushed a little further than great 1080p gaming, this is the one for you!
Temps are staying low across the board when gaming for longer periods of time or playing more intensive games. Even when playing Clair Obscure at 1440p High settings, fans stayed quiet and temps looked great staying well within the acceptable range. This was especially true when I set the PC to Dell Ultra Performance in the Dell app. See below for a more detailed breakdown of the data.
Gameplay Stats (Dell Ultra Performance):
Clair Obscur
1440p 240hz High Settings
FG: 116fps, 60fps avg
CPU: 40%
GPU: 97% 68c
RAM: 16/32GB used
4K 240hz High: 86FG, 42FPS avg
Skate. (2025)
4K 240hz High Settings
FPS: 80 avg
CPU: 70%
GPU: 98% 69c
RAM: 18/32GB used
UserBenchmark Scores
CPU 132% Outstanding
GPU 65% Good
SSD 277% Outstanding
RAM 103% Outstanding
At this price point and performance level, I can accept the fact that it comes with an incredibly cheap and basic wired keyboard and mouse. If you’re going to be doing any serious gaming, or even general productivity, you’re going to immediately recycle those (at your local Best Buy). The bloatware is better than the old days of Dell computers but it’s still pretty prevalent unfortunately. Especially with the forced McAfee security software installation on initial setup. Those are small hiccups to a fantastic PC. And for someone like me who finds traditional gaming hardware design gauche and annoying, the simplicity of the case is appreciated. Paired with the performance under the hood, you have a fantastic option if this is your budget.

Jack of all trades

SUMMARY: The Dell - Tower Plus EBT2250 is a good, bordering on strong, versatile performer in the worlds of gaming, creativity, AI, 3-D rendering, and yes, work. It straddles these categories with a great CPU (Intel Core 7 Series 2), a good discrete graphics board (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060), and a decent amount of RAM (32 GB) and SSD storage (1TB). With ‘professional’ styling and only 8 GB video ram, it’s a ‘work’ computer that you can relax with reasonable game play (at 1080p).
PROs:
- Built for speed, fast CPU, decent GPU, fast RAM, fast SSD, and fast WIFI.
- A Full 1 TB of quick SSD primary storage and 32 GB of fast DDR5 RAM.
- Upgradable ram and storage with toolless entry.
- Quiet, cool performance.
- Easy to set up
- Boots fast
CONs:
- Power supply limited to current GPU requirements (and hard to change).
A MATTER OF TASTE:
- Boring utilitarian styling. If grey steel boxes with harsh edges is your thing, you will love it. This is charitably called ‘traditional’ styling and the best that can be said is it fits well in a work environment.
- Ports on the front, but only one is USB-C.
- An 8 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 video card plays most games well at medium to high settings at 1080 p but struggles at higher resolutions.
- 32 GB of ram is the sweet spot for most, but in the Dell - Tower Plus EBT2250 it is provided as a single Ram stick (with two slots available). On the plus side it’s easy (and cheaper) to upgrade to the maximum 64 GB with the addition of another compatible 32 GB stick. The negative side is you won’t get the full speed advantage unless you populate both slots, almost pushing you to the upgrade.
- 10 USB-A ports and 2 USB-C ports. Who uses so many USB-A ports these days with many devices being wireless or if high speed external drives, USB-C ports.
- Basic USB-A wired keyboard and mouse. Personally, I am fine with this, it’s not my first PC so why pay more for something better? But some may think it’s cheap (because it is.)
- The price borders on being high, I would look for a sale. I say this only because of the graphics board and relatively small power supply being a limit. But I do like the 32 Gb RAM and 1 TB SSD storage.
ABOUT STORAGE: The 1TB of storage is a gen 4 NVME card, which is reasonably fast and enough space for most applications and games. But for those that want more there is an additional empty gen 4 NVME slot and space and cables for two standard 3.5in hard drives. So feel free to go wild with video storage for your own personal video server.
WHO IS THIS FOR? I’m a casual gamer, a passionate photographer (with a real camera even), an AI dabbler (future is coming), and yes, a scientist with a need to do excel. A good general-purpose computer like the Dell - Tower Plus EBT2250 works fine for me. It handles my Lightroom and Photoshop needs well (at 4k), plays like a mid-tier gaming machine (i.e. okay at 1080p), and of course handles the Microsoft suite fine.
But you know what they say about Jack of All Trades… master of none. This is NOT a top tier gaming machine (even ignoring the boring styling) nor can it easily be upgraded to one. The power supply just can’t reliably support a more powerful graphics board, nor can the non-standard power supply be swapped out. Likewise, if you have made the transition from USB-A style plugs to USB-C, you will be disappointed with only two (40 Gbps and 10 Gbps) USB-C ports. And the majority of the USB-A style are 5 Gbps or lower speed (9 out of 10). Who uses 10 USB-A ports these days? That was okay 5 years ago, these days I want 40 Gbps for my high-speed thunderbolt 4 drives for my photo and video collections. What I will say is the ports are well-placed for maximum flexibility between the front and back.
If you want a flexible computer that performs well as your daily driver, check out the Dell - Tower Plus EBT2250.

The Dell Tower Plus EBT2250 Desktop is a little powerhouse! Setup is pretty straightforward for new desktop devices these days—you only need an internet connection and a Microsoft email account (Hotmail, Outlook, Live, etc.). Moving on from an older Dell all-in-one touchscreen was simple, as transferring files to the new machine was quick and easy. Once everything was up and running, I tested a few games on Steam. If you’ve seen some of my other reviews, you know I do a lot of gaming on laptops, so I was excited to see how this desktop compared. The performance gap between the two is definitely noticeable. The EBT2250 ran flawlessly, even with several graphically intensive games. Lighting, textures, and all those high and ultra settings looked fantastic, and games ran smoothly locked at 120Hz.
Beyond gaming, I also use this desktop for construction and design software. I haven’t encountered any issues running CAD programs or Photoshop—everything performs very well. Overall, this is a fantastic personal computer with plenty of room to upgrade over time. There’s a lot of value and a lot to love in this desktop PC!

Dell did good with this gaming computer. Performance, features and connectivity are all great. I'm mostly a gamer but, sometimes, I also do video edits. The performance of this thing is really good. The processor makes easy work of anything I have thrown at it. I am able to do all my tasks, stream, download, browse the web and more, with ease. No issues with running slow or glitching whatsoever. The more demanding tasks, such as gaming and my edits, are also done with ease. The graphics card combined with the processor make a an excellent gaming experience. I play some pretty demanding triple A games and, ley me tell you, the run super smooth and I am able to pretty much max out the graphics and resolution. First person shooters and wonderfully responsive and RPGs look fantastic. I have this paired with a 32 inch QHD monitor and just wow. My gaming has been step up. I also, use this desktop for my media needs such as movies, tv shows and music. There are a couple things I am not a fan of. One, the style is very bland for a gaming PC. I'd prefer something flashy with lots of RGB lighting. Second, is the AI abilities. For me, the AI is useless for what I use this PC for but I do feel it has future potential. Overall, this PC is a great machine, especially when paired with good accessories.
