Solid compact school laptop. 32gb of ram and 1tb of storage is more than enough for general classes and every day use. The resolution and refresh rate are crisp and fluid. Battery life is okay. Highly recommend for those who would like to go with one of apple’s MacBook lineup but want a windows OS

Closed, the XPS 14 seems like any Dell XPS laptop albeit in a much more portable form factor. That’s not a bad thing as I appreciate the sleek, professional platinum minimalistic chassis. The laptop has some weight to it coming in at 3.5 lbs. but can still be held in one hand. Opening the lid is where the magic happens. The first thing I noticed was how clean the light gray deck looks. There is only one sticker (which I wish wasn’t there). Gone completely from view is the haptic trackpad. I thought this may be an issue, but I instinctively found it every time. It is also very responsive, and the glass feels smooth to the touch. The palm rejection is quite impressive. The gapless keyboard layout looks amazing, but took some serious time to get used to, and after a while it still affects my typing speed and accuracy. It’s a good thing I don’t rely on speed for reports and emails. Nevertheless, the keys are big and have nice travel and feedback. I love the inclusion of the copilot key as I am relying more on AI answers lately. The lit-up touch function row is great visually, but I sometimes miss actual keys, especially the “esc” and “delete” keys. Still, while the “function keys” do not have haptic feedback, they respond very well, and after some time start to feel more natural. The next striking feature is the stunning 3.2K OLED screen set within super thin bezels. It is simply eye-popping with vibrant colors, deep blacks, and a defining contrast. The 120Hz variable refresh rate makes everything so smooth, especially when using the touch screen. Being HDR/Dolby Vision certified, compatible content looks even better, if that’s even possible. When it comes to performance, I’d say this laptop is more geared for medium productivity use. During every-day work (emails, web-surfing, spreadsheets, etc.) it performs flawlessly. The Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU, Intel Arc GPU, and NPU provide enough power to do light-to-medium content creation such as picture and video editing. The 32GB RAM allows for plenty of multi-tasking, and the fast 1TB SSD provides sufficient space. I never noticed the laptop getting too hot, probably due to the heat pipes and side vents, which allow for actual lap use. This laptop is really not optimal for gaming, though. Some light or older games are fine, but if I wanted to play any contemporary titles, streaming was a great option when available. Speaking of streaming, the laptop is Wi-Fi 6E compatible for those who can take advantage. The sound is above average in my opinion. Although lacking a bit of bass (as with virtually all laptops of this size) the top-firing speakers produce loud, clear, and surprisingly great directional cues (left-right channels). The laptop features three USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one Micro-SD card slot, and one 3.5mm headphone/mic jack (thankfully!). Although Dell included a dongle with an HDMI and a type-A USB port, I personally would’ve liked to see at least the legacy USB port and a full-size SD card slot on the device instead. The 1080p camera is better than most. The colors are bright, even in dim conditions and the microphone catches sound very well. I had no issues during online meetings. I do wish Dell would have added a privacy shutter or cam disabling key/button though. By the way, the XPS 14 is compatible with “Windows Hello” via fingerprint or face ID, which is very convenient. The battery life is OK. The 70wHr battery can last almost a full workday doing basic tasks. Watching HDR videos, video rendering, or gaming, bring it down to 4-5 hours. The laptop comes with a 60w USB-C charger. I was somewhat disappointed that the laptop is not upgradeable, at least the RAM, so one must choose the right configuration from the start. And lastly, the relative high price may turn some people off. In the end, I am quite pleased with the excellent design, functionality, performance, portability, and most importantly, gorgeous display. Yes, it is not perfect and quite pricey, but I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially if and when it goes on sale.

This is the best possible laptop I have ever bought. Before it, I used 3 different ones at the same time, this new one threw all the previous ones into the bin. While I'm working on his program, he throws out solutions for me and thus cuts down on my wasted time... this is magic

The most advanced laptop currently on the market

This is easily the most advanced laptop currently on the market. I was immediately impressed when I opened it. The quality, the color tone, and the look feels modern, elegant, and sophisticated. While checking the specs I was surprised that it is slightly superior on some aspects to the latest Mac Pro available in the market, on almost every detail, so far. For sure its superior specs over the other brands will ensure to sustain all the SW and applications loads for a long, long time. 7 years ago I had my first Dell XPS Laptop, and it is still running, strong and reliable. Obviously I cannot have the latest OS and some other applications that requires more Powerful and faster processor, but I gave it to my mom and she is very happy with it. And again, this new model doesn’t disappoint at all. The OLED display and its screen resolution is impressive being 3200 x 2000 and the video card even doubles when using an external display. The feature that makes this laptop look elegant is the touch function row above the keyboard. The volume, screen brightness, and other controls don't even have buttons. It only works by touch and each control has a light. Even though there's no buttons, the controls work like normal. The 14.5" screen has incredible visuals and color due to the OLED touch display and the screen resolution is 3200 x 2000 which is actually 4K Ultra HD. One of the best screens on the market. At the beginning I thought that 14.5” might be an odd size, but now I realized it’s perfect, not too small, not too big, 3.8 pounds you can easily carry it anywhere. It’s a great travel companion for sure. And with the clarity of images and videos, video conferencing, letters, emails, I feel very comfortable writing my emails, working or simply streaming videos. Colors and contrast are very vivid and remarkable. The screen is touchscreen and has no lagging and the touchscreen is a feature I love. For me, touch screen should be the standard for all Laptops. For some reason, Apple refuses to integrate touchscreen on their Macs but Dell has used it broadly on their laptops and it works great! Another elegant feature on this laptop is the seamless glass touchpad. The packaging is well presented, and you will know immediately while you are unpackaging that you are in front of a High Tech and quality Laptop. So, what you should receive is: Quick Start Manual Laptop Dell 14.5in Power Adapter HDMI USB-C Adapter USB-C Cable Build is outstanding, aluminum case and gorgeous finish, display is Gorilla Glass, invisible haptic touchpad is very responsive and quad speakers with 2 tweeters that makes a total of 8watts peak output. Great front facing camera resolution (1080p) and mic. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the “missing” touchpad but the touchpad is actually part of the laptop. I thought it would be a hassle at first and maybe the laptop wouldn't know whether I was pressing on the left or right side but that is not the case. Its haptic touchpad provides precise responsive feedback. I haven't had any trouble with that feature and it looks great! I also recommend the platinum color I choose. This laptop has incredible performance due to its Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and I'm so happy to make this switch from my old laptop that had the Intel i7 processor which is a bit outdated by now. When browsing for new tech the first thing I look for is how much space and memory I can get. I have many videos and pictures from every phone I've had so space is very important to me. For my ongoing training clases, all of my assignments must be completed on my laptop and I was looking for a trustworthy device where I can save all my work without having to worry about space and this computer is perfect. With a 16Core Intel Ultra 7 processor and 32GB system memory makes it perfect for multitasking and having numerous programs and tabs open all at once. Definitely the processor is powerful and fast. It runs incredibly smooth and the total storage capacity is 1TB SSD which is quite large and fast and more than enough for most people. Another feature I noticed is in the charging device. Before, the power adapter had the USB-C port attached to the power adapter, but now, they are separate and this way you have a USB-C to USB-C cable available for any other use. It’s a more clever design because this allows me to have more options but with less cables to carry. Another features that I like the most are the 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, the Micro SD port and the headphone/mic jack. The Dell XPS 14 has two Thunderbolt 4 ports type-C on the left and one more Thunderbolt port type-C on the right. I appreciate a lot that Dell still providing the microSD card reader, which I use a lot and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right (another rarity nowadays, but another feature that I still use, and why not, good to have it). If you need a USB-A port, Dell includes a USB-C to USB-A and HDMI adapter. The keyboard is also different from my previous laptop and better due to its larger and deeper keys and the reduced space between them makes typing more efficient and it also looks great because of the backlit keyboard. Since I've been using it, I also haven't noticed any heat production coming from the laptop as well as no noise. One of the newest features on Dell laptops is the Windows Copilot which I assume other companies will soon integrate this feature onto their computers as well. Windows Copilot is a built in, personal AI assistant that is seen at the bottom of the screen much like an Alexa or Siri. The fingerprint reader for the sign-in option is also very cool and works great so I don't have to type in my password anymore. I love the size of this laptop. It's perfectly portable and easily fits in my bag but not annoyingly small like other laptops tend to be. This is a very well though and design laptop, its higher specs comparing to other brands available in the market. It’s fast with 1TB SSD which gives me enough space for all my tasks and personal stuff and that will make this Laptop current for years. Performance is exceptional on every single detail. I am not the type of person to buy a new phone or laptop every year just to have a new one which is why I look for long lasting, quality products that can last me several years so I don't have the need to constantly buy new ones and this laptop fits that description. I am certain that I will be happy with this product for as long as it lasts.

Fast, slick, amazing display-but not great battery

-- SUMMARY: -- Fantastic laptop, super fast, very slick and incredible OLED display. The only drawback I find is that the battery only lasts between 4.5 to 6.5 hrs of constant use. Overall I would absolutely recommend this laptop for work, including software development, or for entertainment. -- PROS: -- - Slick, beautiful design, a tad heavier that what I would prefer but not too much. - Stunning OLED display. - Nice, slick keyboard. It feels great to the touch. And I really like the fact you can’t see the mouse trackpad and yet it works perfectly, giving you a nice touch feedback. You can't see the power button either, which is the same as the fingerprint reader (i.e. it's not marked). - Touch Screen is a nice extra. I’m not used to using the touch screen on a laptop so I know it works as expected but I haven’t used it extensively. If we were able to completely fold this laptop so it becomes a tablet, then I would consider the touch screen a lot more useful. So, nice addition but I won’t be using it often. Maybe my kid would use it more 🙂 - 3 USB-C ports, 2 on the left side and one on the right side. What I like the most about this is that we can plug the computer into any of these ports when the battery runs low. That means less cable entanglement regardless of whether the outlet is closer to the left or right side. - Multiple ways to log in: face recognition, fingerprint and PIN. All of them work flawlessly and you can enable/disable any of them. I really enjoy this versatility. - Fast charging. It took about 1hr 50 minutes to charge the laptop from 5% to 100%. - I enabled a feature that starts dimming the screen when you look away until it locks the screen after your specified amount of time. I also enabled the feature that it unlocks automatically when you are in front of the laptop. While these are software settings, the hardware in the computer makes these features work really well. I really like it! -- DRAWBACKS / COULD BE BETTER: -- - Battery: For a laptop of this caliber and price, I would have expected the battery to last a lot longer. I’m quite disappointed in this area, especially that I plan to keep the laptop for a long time and batteries degrade over time. Here are some metrics I took: -- After the first full charge, it probably lasted about 6ish hours of constant use doing very minimal things, mainly web browsing and playing with the laptop settings. -- The second full charge lasted about 5.5 hrs of constant use doing a bit more intense tasks such as downloading my full iCloud pics and videos in the background, plus watching some online videos some of the time. -- The third full charge lasted about 4.75 hrs mainly watching online episodes of a series I like - No LED indicating whether the laptop is charging or if it’s already fully charged when plugged in. This is a bit unfortunate as I like to know from far away whether the laptop is already fully charged. Instead, you have to open the laptop and mouse over the battery to know how much it’s charged. - Copilot button: I’m not sure how I feel about having a button reserved for Copilot. I might like it in the future when I get more used to using Copilot. In the meantime, Copilot would seem to appear at random times, obstructing my view on the right side of the screen. I finally realized it's because I keep accidentally clicking on the Copilot key, located right below the dot key. - No built-in USB-A or HDMI ports. I was hoping it would also come with at least one of each built-in. Fortunately, the box comes with one adapter from USB-C to USB-A and HDMI. But, it's one extra adapter I have to carry and hope I don’t lose.

The Dell XPS with 14.5 inch screen 3.2 OLED Touch Laptop Intel Core Ultra 7 Evo Edition. This is a very nice sleek looking laptop that can handle all of my home office programs without crashing. This Dell XPS has touch screen but is not pen compatible. It is equipped with Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and runs Windows 11 Home. It has 32GB memory and 512GB of SSD storage. It has three Lightning USB-C ports, two on the left side and one on the right. A headphone/headset jack is also located on the right. It is equipped with a platinum backlit English Keyboard with Fingerprint Reader. Like most PC's that runs Windows it has a trial of Microsoft Office and a year of McAfee Antivirus included. This 14.5 inch Dell XPS runs all of my applications that I need for my small business. I use Adobe creative cloud which includes Lightroom, and Photoshop. I use Affinity Designer 2 and Affinity Photo 2 for designing and such. I also have Silhouette Studio Business Edition installed on this laptop. I can have all of these applications open and running with not one single problem. It's a win for me. Highly recommend.

I always start my review with the packaging and I am pleased to report that my top of the line dell laptop was nicely packaged in an amazing black box making me feel like I got a top of the line product and hey I really appreciate the effort here dell! Into the computer itself my first impressions were wow this thing is a bit hefty! Looking at the gorgeous design everyone in the room will know you got a special laptop. With the top closed this unit looks unbelievably beautiful. The build quality is a 10 of 10 I mean I can tell this laptop will last longer than the software for sure. The OLED screen was out to test in the sun and I had no problems doing reports or browsing the internet while on my patio in the sun. For the speaker volume well I have to say I’m quite impressed! Honestly I do use this to listen to some of my stores phone calls and it’s been hard with previous laptops if the TV was on in background but I could hear everything loud and clear with my new Dell. There are a few little things that threw me off on this unit like no USB A port for my mouse (don’t worry it has an included adapter). The other bummer is the battery life seemed mediocre at best. I was able to work most of the day without charging but if your like me and like to work 12 hours a day you will need to charge it. Overall the sleek look, incredibly fast processor and beautiful screen make up for the things I didn’t like and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this laptop to anyone who wants the newest tech on a windows laptop with a great user experience. I often find myself just staring at it because it is that beautiful. Great job to the Dell team on this laptop!

Dell XPS 14 - Portable Power and Performance

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Dell’s XPS 14 Laptop is a remarkable piece of art and technology delivered in a very portable package. It is a powerhouse that delivers remarkable performance even for moderately tasking endeavors. Dell Technologies makes great computers and their XPS line pack raise the bar with higher-end specifications, materials and design. One look at the Dell XPS 14 and one will be awed by its minimalism. The computer is housed in machined aluminum with five ports. The left side of the computer houses two of the three Thunderbolt 4, USB Type-C ports. All three Thunderbolt 4 ports support power delivery and DisplayPort 2.1 standard. A 3.5mm audio headphone/microphone jack and a microSDXC card slot can also be located on the right-hand side. On either side of the device, close to the base are three vents. Powered by a 16 core Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, these vents may be very critical to its ability to boost up to 4.8GHz. This processor is very efficient and powerful as I have yet to hear it ramp up the fans to complete tasks. The onboard 32GB RAM will ensure the laptop is futureproof. An outcome of these impressive specifications is the previously stated quick and breezy performance. Package content: Dell XPS 14 Laptop USB Type-C Cable 60-Watt Type-C Power Adapter USB Type-C Adapter for HDMI and US Type-A Quick Start Presentation is everything and the Dell XPS 14 delivers as well in this area. For starters, a fashionable molded encasement holds the sleeved device that evokes a premium experience when unboxing. An initial glance at the keyboard layout when unpowered may have you wondering why it looks a little bit off. For starters, there is no traditional mousepad demarcation/outline we have all come to expect. It is there but cleverly hidden. It becomes responsive once the device is powered, otherwise it feels as stiff as the palm rests that flank either side of it. It uses haptic feedback. Both palm rests and the mouse are made of glass per Dell. The power button/fingerprint reader is also very bare and unassuming. The keys on the Dell XPS 14 are comfortable to use for a laptop. In my experience, there is adequate gratifying travel for keystrokes. On top of the physical keys, is a single row of features supported by touch input. This row is also neither visible nor enabled when the device is turned off. This row includes multimedia controls, brightness, keyboard backlight toggle, ESC, screen projection, PRT SC, HOME, END, INSERT and DELETE functions. To help users get acclimatized to these otherwise hidden controls, Dell includes a printout on the keyboard cover detailing their locations. The keyboard is also backlit without dual-stage lighting/brightness unfortunately. While the screen can be dimmed, the keyboard is only either lit or off. The keys deliver ample travel and are satisfying to use. Microsoft’s AI Copilot has a dedicated button to summon. The screen measures about 14.5 inches diagonally with a 3200 x 2000 resolution. It is touch sensitive and best of all, an OLED display. Colors really stand out and the contrast is very impressive. It is a real joy to use and makes LED or LCD screen appear very ancient. It must be noted that while the screen is also glossy, it is still visible in direct sunlight. A good display requires a capable graphics card to enrich the viewing experience. While not in intensive gaming territory, the Intel Arc graphics card is more than adequate for streaming videos and not very tasking games. On top of the display is a 1080p camera with a dual-array microphone that captures good stills and videos. The Dell XPS 14 is more than capable for video conferencing. It even has some native background effects for video conferencing. Participants stated speech was audible and very clear. Stereo speakers flank the keyboard and have a total peak of output of 8W. Each speaker is comprised of a 2W main and a 2W tweeter. Sound is rich and not hollow, in my opinion. At about 3.8 Pounds, this laptop is easy to carry about. Its compact formfactor also helps its portability. It is powered by a 6-Cell 69.5 Whir (Watts used per hour.) The Dell XPS 14 is equipped with an Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E wireless card operating on the 802.11ax standard. To achieve all the benefits of Wi-Fi 6E, you will need a compatible wireless router. My service tier provides speeds up to 800 MBps and I have been able to consistently experience speeds of over 700 MBps. My Dell is a suite of applications that offer the user some clever features. My favorite would have to be the presence detection. Using the camera, the laptop essentially “monitors” you and applies the necessary scenarios as triggered with rather impressive success rates. Options include as listed below: Look away detect – conserves power through screen dimming when user looks away Walk away lock – screen turns off and locks when user is not detected after a predetermined period (30, 60 or 120 seconds, independent of Windows timeout options) Wake on approach – screen wakes up when user approaches laptop The power app delivers battery information including health, serial number and discharge rate. There are various charging options that allow the user to specify primary power source, charging speed, custom charging options or relegating control to device via an adaptive mode. The power app also has some performance options allowing the user to select between various processor and cooling fan speed options. Color and Display provide preset options optimized for HD videos, browsing, pictures etc. Each scene is configurable for brightness, contrast, black level, temperature and Gamma. The audio app provides some ability to customize sound output and optimize voice quality for video conferencing. Finally, the network app provides data on available wireless access points and their performance with regards to online gaming, streaming, downloading etc. It provides some valuable insights into how services may be accessing the network with their duration and download sizes reported in addition. In summary, Dell’s XPS 14 is well built with specifications to keep it relevant for years to come. With very sturdy hinges, an impressive screen and a battery that can go on for hours on a single charge, one needs not look any further for a portable solid performer. The only improvements I would recommend for future models would be the inclusion of the dual-stage lighting/brightness for the keyboard.

The Dell XPS 14 strikes the just right balance between performance and mobility. With a 14.5" "infinity panel" OLED touch screen, the user interface is not lacking. The height of this laptop is a mere 18 mm (that's approximately 0.7" for us SAE unit folks), and the weight comes in around 3.7 pounds. As for more detailed technical specs, the XPS 14 is powered by an Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 Processor 155H (24MB Cache, 16 cores, up to 4.8 GHz), Intel Evo Edition, Intel® Arc™ graphics, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and sports a Samsung PM9A12 1TB NVMe Gen4 SSD (that's 32 Gbps per lane x4 lanes). So although this laptop is small and light, it has some serious capabilities under the hood. There are some noteworthy features on the XPS 14. The trackpad is invisible, but it is also very intuitive since it is in the usual location for a trackpad - underneath the space bar on the keyboard. Dell describes it as a "seamless glass touchpad with haptics". Aesthetically, this is a really nice look. The usual row of function keys (F1 through F12) is a touch-sensitive area above the keyboard. By hitting the function key on the keyboard, that touch sensitive area toggles between the function keys and system keys such as volume control, screen brightness, etc. The XPS 14 has a 1080p, 30 fps FHD RGB-IR camera, which allows for facial recognition to unlock the system via Windows Hello. The keyboard has a dedicated Windows Copilot Key to wake up and unleash the AI Genie inside of the Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 Processor. Battery life is "up to 21 hours" with FHD+, although I have not had the laptop up and running long enough to test that claim. What I can say is that this is probably the most capable laptop I've every had, and the form-factor is incredibly attractive. Performance is stellar, so what's not to like? Maybe having a 2TB NVMe SSD would make it a bit more desirable, but I won't complain about that. If you are looking into a new laptop for yourself, or possibly for a student in high school or college, give the Dell XPS 14 a look. It's a machine that should give many years of solid performance with a relatively small form-factor.

The Dell XPS 14 (Evo Edition) with a 14.5” 3.2K OLED display is a cutting-edge laptop that perfectly blends style and performance. Its 3.2K OLED touch screen offers exceptional visuals, with deep blacks, vibrant colors, and sharp contrasts, making it a delight for streaming, graphic design, or any visual work. The OLED's immersive color range and high resolution make everything pop, providing a professional-grade experience for content creators. Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, this XPS model ensures smooth multitasking and efficient performance for demanding applications. With 32GB of memory, you’ll find it easy to run intensive software like Adobe Creative Suite, manage large datasets, or even enjoy gaming with minimal lag. This laptop’s Intel Arc graphics enhance visual rendering, supporting both creative and light gaming needs, although it may not match the capabilities of high-end gaming GPUs. The 1TB SSD provides substantial storage and quick load times for applications, which makes it ideal for storing large media files or extensive project work without slowing down performance. As part of the Evo Edition, it offers a blend of optimized battery life, quick wake-from-sleep responsiveness, and solid power efficiency, giving you a streamlined and dependable experience for daily use. In terms of design, the platinum finish and ultra-slim form factor make it as aesthetically appealing as it is portable. The keyboard is well-designed with great tactile feedback, and the touchpad is large and precise, ensuring a comfortable workflow. Pros: Stunning 3.2K OLED display: Perfect for vibrant, lifelike visuals and precise color work. Intel Core Ultra 7 and 32GB RAM: Ensures high performance for demanding tasks and multitasking. Intel Arc Graphics: Adequate for creative and light gaming applications. Portable and premium build: Lightweight, durable, and visually appealing. Cons: Battery life: The high-resolution OLED screen may drain the battery faster, so carrying a charger on longer days may be necessary. Graphics limitations: While great for creative applications, the Intel Arc Graphics may struggle with the latest AAA games at max settings. Final Verdict: The Dell XPS 14 Evo Edition is a top-tier choice for professionals, creators, and power users who value display quality, design, and multitasking capability. Its price point reflects the premium build and features, making it a worthwhile investment for those who need a high-performing and visually impressive laptop.

This brilliant Dell XPS 14 is a perfect balance of go-anywhere mobility and high performance. The ultimate work from home laptop. It is small enough to not take up a lot of space on your desk and with an ample number of Thunderbolt 4 ports, you can connect an external display/monitor to improve productivity and to charge your laptop without using the charger that comes with the laptop. 32 gigabytes of system memory (RAM) make this one of the quickest and efficient computers I've ever used. The OLED 3.2K (nearly 4K) display provides picture that's virtually blur-free and incredible high color accuracy and really makes the most of 4K content, even it isn't technically a full 4K output. The 1TB of storage compacity makes it great for being able to store video or large game files without having to invest in multiple external hard drives. With the computer having only Thunderbolt 4 ports, Dell has provided an adapter to be able to support one HDMI output and a traditional USB device. This laptop is sleek and light, and really seems to give superior performance and is worth the investment.

Made me excited about new tech again

Even being in the tech industry as long as I have, it still amazes me how technology and manufacturing have progressed. Especially when I buy something I haven’t bought in a while. The last laptop I bought was over a decade ago and I got it after waiting 5 hours on a Black Friday line outside Best Buy. Comparing that to the Dell Ultra 7 XPS 14 is like comparing a 1960’s sports car to a contemporary high-performance vehicle! For me, the ‘unsung heroes’ here are the Thunderbolt 4 ports. Because of their size, functionality, and throughput abilities, they make a lot of the other features possible. If you’re not familiar with Thunderbolt (and I admit I wasn’t that knowledgeable myself}, They were developed by Intel in collaboration with Apple. Thunderbolt combines PCI Express and DisplayPort into two serial signals and additionally provides DC power, all via a single cable. This allows for daisy-chaining up to six devices, which helps to streamline connection and reduces cable clutter. Not to mention, backwards compatible with USB C. This allows the AC adapter on the Ultra 7 to be relatively small in comparison to the bricks I was used to lugging in the past. And the speed of connected supported peripherals like a compatible external drive I tested is comparable to an internal HDD! Not that I’d ever need one with the generous 1TB drive that comes installed, but since the Ultra 7 doesn’t come with a DVD drive, it came in handy for installing some programs I had archived. To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I used the DVD on my Dell desktop and with most software available via download, I think it makes sense not to include it. It saves space and weight as well as making for a much cleaner aesthetic. Another thing that I appreciated was the emphasis on security with the built in fingerprint sensor on the power button and the infrared camera paired with the webcam. The camera set up means that it is supported by Microsoft Hello face recognition technology, giving you a choice of biometrics to secure your laptop. I think that’s important with something that you are going to go mobile with! The track pad took me a little getting used to, but I think that’s because I a more used to working with a mouse. Fortunately, the screen is touch sensitive and that helped out a lot until I got the hang of it. (Of course, I could have paired a Bluetooth mouse as well since the Ultra 7 includes Bluetooth.) The keyboard was comfortable to use, responsive and most importantly… backlit. Oh man did I appreciate that! The speed of the Intel Core 7 processor in this thing makes it a beast; I imagine this would be a nice gaming rig if you didn’t need a huge screen (though Dell thoughtfully includes a Thunderbolt adapter that has both a USB 2 port and an HDMI port to drive a larger screen. I’m not a gamer, but I do work with graphics and photography and the Ultra 7 handles complex filters and rendering effortlessly. I hope to get my home recording studio set up again soon and I will use this laptop to run my recording software. I’m confident it will handle the processing better than the previous desktop PC that was doing the chore. That’s the great thing about the Ultra 7; it’s a chameleon. One minute you can be banging out some text (like I’m doing on it now) and then the next minute you can be running a remote meeting or working on your passion project and the Ultra 7 rises to the challenge. The reason I haven’t considered a laptop in over a decade is because my use cases and needs were so varied and many, I didn’t think a laptop could address them all. But the Ultra 7 has not only answered all my challenges, but it’s also given me some food for thought on what I might be able to do it in the future. And that’s got me excited about new tech again. I’d highly recommend it!

This laptop is a continuation of Dell’s experiment in design which started with the 13” XPS. It’s now incorporated into the new XPS 14 and 16 models, and it’s aimed right at the MacBook Pro in design and layout. Having owned more than one XPS in the past, I was interested in seeing if the new design was an improvement. As for a while, the exterior is the same sleek, and thin design that’s been used for several years with mostly the same ports. Three thunderbolt, headphone jack, but the full-sized SD slot has been replaced with a micro SD slot. However, once you open the lid, the changes are dramatic. There’s no discrete track pad since it is integrated into the seamless glass bottom panel. The top row of keys has been replaced with illuminated, touch sensitive capacitive “buttons”. The keyboard has no lattice separating the large, short throw keys with a dedicated Copilot key. The screen choices remain the same. An excellent FHD or upgrade to the beautiful 3.2K OLED touchscreen. The build quality continues to be world class. It’s sleek; it’s minimalist; and it’s in a class of its own. My unit was the Intel EVO edition. It has an Intel Ultra 7 processor (AI optimized), an OLED screen, 32 GB of ram, and onboard Intel Arc graphics. Without the optional discrete NVIDIA graphics, don’t expect this to be a gaming machine. Even though the screen is capable of 120 hz refresh, the ARC graphics just can’t keep up with modern games. Make sure you buy one setup as you wish because the graphics and ram are soldered in and not upgradable. As far as my likes and dislikes with the changes, there are several of each. The look is sexy and eye catching. The build, as mentioned, is superb. I like the slightly smaller screen and weight compared to the 15” models it replaces. The EVO edition has the nearly instant start from sleep that required. I wish they had kept the full-sized SD slot since that’s the standard for digital cameras. The enclosed dongle includes a USB A and HDMI port, but you’ll need another one to read full-size SD’s. I had no problems with the invisible trackpad, but the keyboard takes some getting used to. This is especially the case since some often used keys are now in the top, “non-key” row (esc, home, end, Insert, and delete). It's a great laptop, but it’s going to be a personal choice. You may love the changes. You might not.

Pros: Brilliant 3.2K OLED Display – The colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, and everything looks sharp. The touchscreen is responsive and adds a premium feel. Powerful Performance – The Intel Core Ultra 7 handles multitasking like a champ. Whether I’m working on productivity tasks, photo editing, or streaming, this laptop stays smooth and fast. 32GB RAM & 1TB SSD – Having this much memory means zero lag, even with multiple apps open. The 1TB SSD provides plenty of storage and makes everything load quickly. Sleek & Premium Build – The Platinum finish looks amazing, and the overall design is compact and lightweight for a 14-inch laptop. Intel Arc Graphics – Surprisingly good for light gaming and creative workloads. It’s not a gaming laptop, but it handles most graphics tasks well. Cons: Battery Life Could Be Better – With the high-res OLED screen, the battery drains faster than expected. You’ll likely need to carry the charger for long work sessions. Port Selection – It mainly comes with USB-C ports, so you might need an adapter for older accessories. Final Verdict: If you’re looking for a premium ultrabook with an incredible OLED display, powerful specs, and a sleek design, the Dell XPS 14 is an excellent choice. It’s perfect for professionals, students, and creatives who need top-tier performance in a compact form factor.
