Had been doing a lot of research as my Pioneer VSX-1124K was starting to go bad on me and I didn't want to be in the dark when it finally went out. I was originally planning on going with Onkyo brand receiver, but after I found this Denon in store I did a quick comparison online and it seemed like a very similar if not better product for a lower price point. There were also some people saying their Onkyo was going out on them within the first year. I know the Denon is a brand new model but I couldn't find many people that were unhappy with their Denon receiver. My wife and I both agree that there seems to be more sound being put out by the surround speakers than before. I'm just waiting for the firmware update to enable Dolby Atmos and more movies to take advantage of it so I can install a couple speakers in the ceiling! I also love how much control you can have over this with just the app on your cell phone. The actual Denon app quit communicating with the receiver but there is another app that has all of the same features. I find myself using my cell phone to control it more often than the actual remote. Overall I am very pleased with the power output and options that this receiver is capable of. I am glad that I went with Denon on this purchase.

If you know anything about home audio this is a great affordable receiver. I have had it for about 6 months now and love it. I did not use the audyssey mic to set up my audio because I have a custom setup and wanted to handle it myself. I love being able to change the equalizer and sound level per speaker it was perfect for my setup. I am running 2x Cerwin Vega xls-15s (400 watt speakers Bi amped) 2x Cerwin vega Re - 30s(250 watt) 1x Cerwin vega Center speaker. All of these speakers are wired with Monster Platinum XP speaker wire. I am also pulling all of the 1295 watts out of the receiver therefore it gets hot but running the ECO mode helps this issue immensely. I run a fan I have setup for it when I am running high volumes and/or high bass with ECO mode off. There is much more but this is plenty long as is. anyone that complains about clarity either needs better speakers, wires, or knowledge of how to set up the equalizers. My whole system is roughly $3,000 and extremely clear for the money weather it's blaring heavy metal or bumping some rap or dubstep. I like my music loud real loud!

    Great Features and Great Sound!

This receiver had everything I'm looking for and we are enjoying it immensely. I have it set up with a 5.1 Klipsch speaker system and commonly use it with a Blu Ray player (Sony) and an Apple TV. The TV I am outputting it to is only a 1080p set, so I can't comment on the 4k up scaling. The sounds is great and while I don't have the height speakers yet for an Atmos soundtrack, the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks (such as on the Star Wars blu rays) are excellent. Clear and crisp sound setup perfectly thatnks to the Audyssey microphone and setup software included. It is very easy to set up and walks you through each step. The only issue I had was with using the ARC on the HDMI for my over the air and smart tv apps where I wanted the sound to play through the speakers. At first the receiver wouldn't recognize it and let me choose HDMI ARC as an option, but redoing the setting on my TV and then turning everything off / on let me choose the setting on the receiver and now it works great. The internet radio feature built in also works great and has almost every country with clear sound and an easy to use interface. This is a great 'future proofing' receiver with the HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 along with the Dolby Atmos and DTS: X support and I look forward to using this for years to come!

This receiver has met my expectations and then some. It was easy to set up, and the sound quality is a huge step up from my 10 year old Onkyo receiver, even though I'm using the same speakers. I'm now able to plug all my devices right into this unit and switch quickly & easily between them, all upscaled into 4k. Late at night I can adjust the channel volume, use the dialogue improvement feature, or use the dynamic range compression feature (or a combination of all of these things) to make it easy to hear the dialogue while sound effects & music remain at a normal level. Without these features, either the dialogue is too quiet to hear, or the sound effects are deafeningly loud. This does reduce the quality and impact of the soundtrack, so I turn these features off during the day time, but because I don't want to wake up the whole neighborhood, I turn them on at night, and I can still enjoy pretty good sound on my movies and TV while dialogue & other sound levels stay basically flat and even and everything can be heard clearly without being too loud. That's just a taste of the level of control you get over all of your audio with this device. It's truly amazing the ways you can tweak your sound experience to suit the mood you're going for. I love it!

I had read some reviews that the setup was difficult. Abosoutely not. The setup was very easy. It tells you right on the TV screen where to place the mic to automatically setup the surround sound for you! Cannot get any easier. I did it all myself and sounds GREAT. Well worth the extra money for a better receiver. HAPPY CUSTOMER!

Have bought Denon receivers for lots of years and when it was time to upgrade (wanted 4k, 3d, Bluetooth, wi-fi to access music streaming services) Denon was the best choice. I compared onkyo, pioneer, Yamaha and a few others. Still came back to power, options, dependability, flexibility and value. Got all I wanted to push 7.2 sound for movies and music.

The modern feature set of this unit was a strong selling point including its enhanced Dolby features. My setup is configured 3.1 on the speakers with no rear/side channels in use. Setup was straight forward. Audio configuration with the included microphone and tripod allows the unit to configure itself for your listening environment with little need to make manual adjustments. The is a large number of HDMI ports available and the unit is WiFi capable to communicate with network devices. It also does firmware updates over WiFi (twice updated in the past 40 or so days). The system is connected to a Sony 830C 4K Television and upscaling is excellent playing content from an Xbox One, PS4, and AppleTV. Sound quality is very good in my environment, providing crisp highs and excellent overall presence. On the downside, when connected to an iPhone via Bluetooth, on several occasions, the receiver has just switched to Bluetooth while I was watching other content. Not sure why this happens and I have not figured it out yet. Overall very pleased with the purchase.

If you just want a good receiver that will work with most equipment (TV, DVD, game console, etc) and is easy to set up, this is the one. It only took me about 15 minutes to get everything working after opening the box. The sound is great, the features are awesome and it works with everything I own with no fuss.

Great features and sound rocks. I bought this as a step up from an older Yamaha and like this 100x better. Many HDMI ports and pushes enough to let my Polk speakers do their job. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to enter the next tier from the beginner receivers.

Excellent system altogether, however I wish Denon would have included the outlet, on back of the receiver, they used to provide with earlier systems. It made it easier to power a subwoofer and control it on or off. Setting up this receiver was very easy, and the audessy calibration of speakers was very easy to accomplish. This is one of the thriftiest receivers on the market to include Dolby atmos, and the versatility of inputs is amazing. 4K pass through has made for a stunning picture with my tv. One can not go wrong with choosing a Denon product!

This receiver has more than enough power to turn my living room into a theater experience. I had an older 100 watt SONY surround system and still use the speakers from that system. The receiver has multiple sound settings and allows me clearly hear the dialog on TV or movies through the center speaker. The system automatically connects to itunes from my local laptop or desktop computers; and the internet radio works perfectly. Lots of options to connect older style equipment, but no phono input for a turntable. I am VERY pleased with this receiver. If I only had room for two good tower speakers (sigh), the neighbors would be calling the cops on me.

    Awesome A/V Receiver

I'm very happy with this Denon receiver. I'd used another brand receiver and it was missing several features that this unit has. My TV is a Sony and I'm accustomed to turning on the Satellite box or Blu-Ray player and having the TV just come on. With the other receiver I tried, that did not happen. With my Denon that feature was just as if I did not run everything through the Denon A/V Receiver. Turn one on and the TV comes on. Additionally, if my wife does not wish to turn on the Denon A/V Receiver, she just turns on the TV as usual by turning on the Satellite and she has TV with the sound coming from the TV. When watching anything in surround, I love how I can go in and adjust the volume for any individual speaker, I can turn up the center channel speaker to help hear the voices on a movie when the other sounds get too loud. The built in Audyssey setup is easy and does a great job adjusting the speakers and EQ to your room. This unit is extremely flexible. I can change how inputs are assigned so I can use the optical input for my CD changer instead of the default device if I chose. Listening to music videos on YouTube is awesome, even when the YouTube video is not in HD, normally the sound is great and sounds wonderful played through this unit. I have the Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System (4 satellite speakers, center speaker and subwolfer). I'm very pleased with how these sound with the Denon A/V Receiver. The android app works reasonably well. I have to work and keep my phone in one spot for the Bluetooth to stay connected but that is most likely because I have the unit in a shelf that restricts the Bluetooth signal. I had the same issue with the other receiver I tried. The Wi-Fi works great. I can stream MP3's from a networked drive with no problems at all. I love the Aux inputs on the front that allow me to connect my laptop via HDMI without having to pull the unit out to access the HDMI inputs in the rear. I like being able to plug in a USB jump drive in the front and play MP3s from there as well. I know that I'm leaving many of the features out but you can tell I'm VERY pleased with my purchase of this unit.

A fantastic receiver for an affordable price. This is a high end product with a mid grade price. I had a Denon receiver previously and it lasted over 10 years so I initially was looking to get another one. Well I am glad I went with my gut and got another one. The sound quality is fantastic through my sound system and is crisp and precise. The amount of HDMI ports allows any type of home theatre set up to be done with ease. I highly recommend this product.

So, I was looking for an upgrade to my home theater setup (which includes a 40" HDTV and a Projector. Therefore, I wanted something that had two HDMI outs, which this receiver has. Set-up is extremely easy and the calibration for your speakers is awesome. We are enjoying the functionality of this receiver and I really like the fact that it is future-ready to process 4K video and supports Atmos.

Easy to set-up, everything works. Two HDMI Out connections and pass through are great to have; solved previous problems using an HDMI splitter. Very good sound for audio and video inputs. The Denon Remote App is functional. Only complaint is the music screens for Airplay and media server are industrial strength ugly. Would prefer user defined screens.

Best purchase ever! By far best surround receiver ever. Better and more power then Yamaha or Sony and actually sends and pushes bass! Best features is dual sub outputs and dual hdmi out to run multiple tvs at same time. I have two 15" cerwinVegas and two 8" klipsh tower speakers. Dual subs and receiver wants more!
