This receiver works really well and has a full satisfying sound. It supports the latest codecs and 4k UHD HDR. The automatic set up was easy and (to my ears) pretty accurate. For advanced users the menus and setup may be too simplified. It has enough power to drive full size speakers. There are 2 issues I found that keeps me from rating it 5 stars. 1-When I make an adjustment to the sound or a channel level it doesn't keep the adjustment. The rear channels are just a bit loud and the subwoofer level a little hot. The receiver doesn't remember the settings and I have to re-do them every time I watch a movie. 2-The mobile app is really lack luster in function and usability. Recently the app quit working at all, due to not finding the AVR on my home network. I am tech savvy and tried all of the trouble shooting recommended by Denon and more. The app still doesn't work for me. This is a very weak aspect for a new AVR. Especially so in comparison to the Pioneer app I was using with the AVR the Denon replaced. Pioneer's control app is excellent, packed with features/control, the UI is beautiful and always worked fine. In comparison the Denon app is a complete disappointment, even when it worked.

After reading the instructions, it was easy to set up the Denon - 1295W 7.2-Ch. 4K Ultra HD and 3D Pass-Through A/V Home Theater Receiver. Never before have I heard quality sound and seen quality images on a TV screen as I do with the new receiver. Hooked up (believe it or not) 45 year old JVC speakers to it -- sounds gorgeous. Switching between the TV and Blu-Ray is as easy as pressing a button.

I bought this Denon AVR to replace an old Yamaha receiver. I couldn't be more pleased. This AVR produces amazing sound, has plenty of power and tons of features. Setup is easy and Denon provides an on screen guide to help you through the process. The blu tooth and networking capabilities were a big bonus for me. My previous AVR had none of this. Also, you get 8 HDMI inputs. Some CONS are that the buttons on the remote have more throw then I'm used to. Sometimes takes an extra push to get the remote to respond. It's 100 times better than the Yamaha remote though. Had some initial networking issues but I resolved those myself. If you're in the market for a good mid-tier receiver with tons of options I would go for this one. You wont be disappointed.

This is the third Denon receiver I have owned over the past many years. They keep getting better. One major improvement over the years is the setup. Do not be surprised when you cannot find a owners manual in the box. You really don't need one. The onscreen guide is wonderful. I replaced a dying 15 year old NAD receiver that was the best sounding receiver I have owned. It was so smooth (if you know anything about NAD getting 15 years is close to a miracle). Unfortunately I am stuck with having to have component inputs and outputs. When the house was built and wired 14 years ago that was the best option. The cables run about 30 feet from one room to the TV and speakers in the Theater room. I have tried to run a HDMI cable to the TV but trust me it is not possible. So this Denon was the best option with out spending twice the price for a Marantz. (Two of the only receivers I could find that still offered component inputs and output). Give your self plenty of time going through the Audyssey sound setup. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes. It is well worth it. The sound is great and even though I am not sure it is a smooth as the NAD the sound stage is much better and the separation of each speaker is much better defined. It does support a limited ATMOS setup and it support DTS:X (However it requires a firmware update for bug fixes that will be out later this month). Speaking of bug fixes, and my only complaint, Pandora does not work at the moment. You cannot log into your account or setup a new account. After spending way to much time trying to get connected to Pandora I finally read the FAQ's. It seems the fix to resolve this issue is included in the same firmware update later this month (Can't blame Denon to much. It seems Pandora changed the way Denon connects to Pandora). In the mean time the internet radio works very well. Should also mention it was easy to setup a Bluetooth connection to my phone and stream content. The Denon app is pretty good as well. However it could not find the receiver when the Denon was hard wired to the network and my phone via WiFi. Once I changed the Denon to be on WiFi the app found it. I would rather have the Denon hard wired but my WiFi is pretty fast so I don't think it will be an issue. Once connected with the app it works really well. All the major things you want to control are all there. It is laid out well and easy to use. Overall I am very pleased.

Does what it’s supposed to do. Good sound, easy set up, works will my projector and klipsch speakers. Wish it didn’t click so loud but it’s something small for the price I paid. Highly recommended!

I purchased this Denon 920 after having been previously a Pioneer & Yamaha AVR owner. As a matter of fact, this was my 1st Denon product ever purchased. The main reason for that was simple; I had always heard that set-up & operation of a Denon AVR was complicated & not for the faint of heart! However nothing could be further from the truth. The purchase of this AVR came from a friend because I had been having nothing but handshake issues with my Pioneer operating successfully with my new LG OLED TV & (3) other components. He said try a Denon; what do you have t lose? Well, he was right; I broke down, made the purchase & everything worked perfectly! First, I have to give Denon extra credit for having, what I feel is the easiest set-up method I have ever run across. I would think that even if you had never hooked up an audio/video system, you'd be able to follow along with their set-up guide. I was also impressed with their room calibration operation; I actually found it to be much more detailed than Pioneer & also possible Yamaha's. So all-in-all, I love this new receiver & I see no reason to continue being a loyal Denon customer for some time to come!

We love this receiver! It's definitely worth the extra money to upgrade to this one, especially considering that it includes 8 HDMI inputs and Bluetooth connectivity. Another plus is the ability to upgrade & update the software. It provides incredible power, as well as picture and sound quality.

    Great Receiver for 4k Enthusiast

I recently upgraded my TV to 4k, and immediately realized that I needed to do the same with my receiver in order to pass through a 4k signal from my external devices (Roku, PS4, PC, etc). I use the receiver as an input for all of my devices, and to pass through audio and content from my smart tv apps via the ARC channel. The setup is really easy. I'm sure that super audiophiles can spend a lot more time than I did (I didn't do the live microphone speaker adjustments etc), but I was up and running in seconds after plugging in my speakers and components (I run a 7.1 surround setup). I don't do multi-room or multi-zone yet, so I can't speak to the full range of capabilities that this receiver has - which I'm sure vastly exceed my use. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase!

    Great but missing some things

I bought this unit for several reasons: HDMI switcher with more than 4 inputs, dual HDMI output, Atmos sound. The unit has all these things as it said on the box. Unfortunately two of these things did not work as I wanted. The two outputs were supposed to be for a 4K TV and a 1080p computer monitor. They work that way but the signal is the same for both outputs, that is you cannot see a dvd on one output and a DirecTV output at the same time. Also, you cannot play a 3D movie on one output while the computer monitor is hooked up on the other output! Atmos sound is supported by this unit, unfortunately everything else has to support Atmos or it will not work. Consider this before upgrading just the AVR. You may need to upgrade everything - $$$ ! With these two exceptions I still decided to keep the unit since it supports everything else I wanted, and... the sound is great! The HDMI switcher takes 5 - 6 seconds versus my TV which takes 15 - 20 seconds to switch. This is a big improvement.

HDMI 2.0a on all ports unlike the competitors which only contain 3. Great volume control so that you cannot over drive your speakers. Easy set up. I have had to buy a receiver almost ever year for the past 4 years due to changing HDMI standards and between Onkyo Pioneer and Denon this receiver has been the best in regards to features and how great the HDMI switching is in relation to the two other major brands. Highly recommend for a medium to small room. Not anough wattage to fill a large room.

I always research big purchases like this in depth, maybe to a fault. But that is part of the fun for me. After comparing specs of multiple receivers in the Denon line and competitors I settled on this one because it had all the features I needed plus high quality components that are not present in the "X" line of Denon receivers at a similar price. This unit has worked flawlessly for me so far and setup has been simple. Love the Apple Air Play features and the connection is rock solid with no drop outs. It has standby pass through for the HDMI ports so you don't have to have the receiver on everytime you watch tv. It simply passes the signal through to your TV speakers for late night viewing.

I purchased this receiver for several reasons I have owned an older denon receiver from early 2000 and was satisfied with the sound and power it had. But it was not user friendly and had a terrible remote. I purchased this receiver because of it's reduced price, it's features and the reviews that stated denon has addressed the complicated set up issues. I was pleased to find out for myself after delivery that denon certainly did. This is the easiest setup for any electronic device I have ever had and a great sounding receiver.

An upgrade from my old school Yamaha that had no hdmi capability. I miss several things, front panel tone controls, on face display for making settings. It has more than adequate power, and features. The mix of inputs makes interfacing easy. The Bluetooth works great for sending audio from my Apple devices. Needs a printed manual, and a geek to decipher it to English. The online manual does not seem to be exact as far as making settings, or at the least is very confusing. The Denon was my choice because of low speaker impedance capability and the Bluetooth and wifi use. Good value for the money, and so far, no problems. Love the Audessey speaker set up feature, made getting the surround sound working easy, once we figured it out.
