The title pretty much says it. We have bought three over the summer, and we are very happy with the sound quality. Of course, the overall sound quality isn't as good as the Heos 5 that we have also purchased during this same time. Bigger bass in the 5 - to be expected at the price.
So why only 4 stars here when 5 on the others? Well, it has to do with connectivity. The Denon Heos app is pretty handy and flexible, but we have run into a connection issue with the Bluetooth. My son had both a gen 1 (wifi only) and a gen 2 (wifi + BT) that worked perfectly in a standard stereo L + R setup here at our house on our wifi. But his university has a closed network -- students cannot run their own routers for all their own phones, tablets, printers and, in our case, speakers. He has not been able to use his iOS Bluetooth to set these up in a stereo configuration, and he doesn't have all my old mono cables to experiment with a wired system. So we may be able to find a fix in the future, but at this point he can only stream from his iPhone to just one speaker

Built-in Bluetooth & Optional Rechargeable Battery

I compared Denon Heos 1 HS2 side by side with Sonos Play 1. In the end I decided on Denon. I purchased 4 of these between Nov & Dec. At the time, Denon was priced at $100-149 while Sonos was $169. Denon is slightly bigger/taller but is not of importance to me.
When it comes to sound, Sonos sounds very well balanced at lower volume. When base/treble adjusted and at higher volumes however, Denon actually sounded much, much better in my opinion.
When it comes to connectivity, Denon has Bluetooth built in and have USB,line in/aux, and Ethernet options on the back while Sonos do NOT have Bluetooth capability and limited to Ethernet connection only.
Denon comes with 2 year warranty while Sonos comes with 1 year warranty.
Denon have an optional rechargeable battery that can be purchased separately, which makes it more versatile than Sonos. I purchased this battery and last about 6 hours per charge. I tried in my bathroom and also out on the porch. No cords is awesome although I noticed not as loud compared to when plugged in.
Set up was okay via Aux port. Heos app is so-so and does not support iTunes. There's a work around but is a hassle. I hear in 2017 iTunes is a possibility so that's my hope. Denon Customer Service was 42 minutes wait when I called for a question. For these 3 things, I am taking out 1 star off my total rating.
These speakers are good individually or as a pair. I have used mine both ways. I am using mostly via wi-fi but have also used it a few times as Bluetooth. No connectivity issues both ways.
For most of the times, my 2 sets of speakers are paired as lefts and rights in my master bedroom and also in my living/dining/kitchen which are open floor plan. So far, I am simply loving them.

Having owned a few “smart” speakers as well as Sonos, I ended up with Denons Heos line for my bathroom and kitchen. These speakers are small, sleak and the audio is incredible for such a small speaker. I use it with Spotify and Soundcloud and the ease of playing and controlling the music from my phone is such a bliss! Love it and def recommend it!

I got this on sale, paying $99. It is a great, compact product with good sound, and the Go Pack makes it totally portable and water resistant. Have paired it with two other heos 1 speakers and my amazon echo dot and can stream pandora effortlessly. The app is in desperate need of an upgrade - doesn't support google play or itunes, and is cumbersome if you are playing music stored on your computer hard drive. You must re-load songs each time you want to make a playlist.
If it weren't for the app's shortcomings, I would have given the heos 1 five stars.

This is a really well made speaker and has excellent sound quality for its size and price point. I recently purchased 2 HEOS 7 units to use in my house coupled with my Denon X3400H Receiver. I added this HEOS 1 unit in my master bath room to complete my full house system. Not only is the sound good, but the unit is sealed and humidity resistant so it is perfect for use in the bathroom. I'm very happy with HEOS thus far and plan on adding some speakers to my cabin next summer for a sound system there.

In my quest (well, not really a "quest", more a musical desire) to have music throughout my humble abode I have, over the last month purchased Amazon's Echo speakers (4 of 'em). I returned them as they were just okay but failed to satisfy me musically and I hate talking to Alexa.
Next I bought (on SALE!) Insignia's superb GooglieAssistant speakers. Again I bought 4 of them and this time I got the larger ones with the built-in battery and clock and temperature display. How cool is that? Pretty cool, actually.
But...Everyone has a big but, so let's talk about mine as it regards this attempt at a musical huzzah. I did NOT like trying to talk with the GooglieAssisant. "She" was even worse than Alexa. The Insignias were otherwise excellent and vastly superior in features and sound to the Echos. I returned them and bought...
Two of these wonderful in white Denon Heos HS1 speakers! They cost me more than twice what the Insignias did for half the speakers but I am soooooo PLEASED! At last...my desire for music throughout my castle of cool is sated! These little babies produce excellent sound from a compact enclosure. They work with the Denon AV Receiver I bought from BB and best of all...I DON"T have to say a freakin' word to any A.I. !!
Highly recommend for any adult that owns or is considering owning a Denon Receiver with Heos. Even if you don't own one of those you can still use Blootoof to connect to these units! I don't of course but you could. So my magical mystical tour for musical excellence is now complete. At least until I get another Heos speaker... Perhaps the Model 5? And then maybe one more...
Trust me. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

I have several sets of the Heos speakers. They sound amazing when they work. The ap will kick you off and often there is no way of getting back on. Tech support says it is my wifi, there is no issue with our wifi or internet service, they just use that as an excuse for poor performance of their system. I want to purchase two Heos amps to run my wholehouse audio but I am very reluctant at this point. If the ap quits working you don't have music, which seems to happen quite often.

I would have given this speaker 5 stars if the documentation was better, but its sadly lacking (especially where the HEOS app is concerned). Once you have it figured out and set up though, it's capable of very good sound for such a small package. We have one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen, plus a HEOS-enabled AVR in the family room. Streaming content between 1, 2, or all 3 devices with a couple of swipes is very useful. Being able to take control of the bathroom speaker and put on annoying songs like the Hamster Dance or Macarena while my wife is powerless in the shower is simply priceless however :-)

Sound is good for this unit. Not too much base, but excellent sound. Splashproof is a must for outside placement, wish it was waterproof. Need to purchase battery for true portability.

I tried the excellent Insignia GoogliegIRL speakers. Nice but I hate talking to GooglieGirl. I tried Amazon's Alexa speakers. Not as nice as the Insignia GooglieGirl speakers and I don't like talking to Alexa.
I have a Denon AV Receiver I got at BB with Heos built in. Guess what?
These little speakerettes are fantastico! No need to be hoping some A.I. female voice will recognize my voice and play my music, I pick what I what and send it where I want it. No regrets! No if onlys? No buyer's remorse! No kidding. These are superdedoooper!
These are excellent speakers and I am going to be getting at least two more in the future. Highly recommend! Trust me. I know what I'm doing when I'm reviewin'!

Speakers are great sounding and I like the fact I can take it too any room in my house to use. Have it synced with sub woofer and sound bar for surround sound. Directions for set up could be more detailed very hard to follow and not a lot of information. Once we got the speakers working and synced we are very happy with the quality.

Bought this to put on the patio. I choose this model to go with the Dennon Reciever with HEOS capability. I have been impressed with sound quality thus far. The downside has been the connectivity to the speaker from the device I am attempting to stream from.

I got into the HEOS ecosystem because my new Denon AVR had it built in. The sound quality from the Heos 1 speaker is pretty good for it size but it would be better if it supported Apple Airplay and if HEOS let you access your iTunes library. You can through a server option but it is complicated and doesn't support playlists and requires your computer to be on. If it supported airplay and Heos let you access your itunes library or Apple TV it would be better. It keeps dropping the BT connection between my Dot and speaker. Personally i think the new Sonos One is a better option as Alexa is built in and supports Airplay, Itunes and has wall mounts you can buy.

I love the HEOS line of speakers--I believe they are superior sounding to the Sonos line. The app is intuitive and easy to use. That said, its performance is completely dependent on the strength of your home wireless network. If you have spotty home wifi coverage, you might have issues with any of the HEOS line. If not, the speakers will work well.

I had been researching Sonos and the Bose whole house wireless system when someone told me about HEOS. This was less than half the cost of the system I would have purchased with the other brands. I have been very pleased with the quality and price of this product. I am a little disappointed that I cannot find the battery in stock right now.

This speaker has excellent sound quality and is easy to use once set up. I did have to contact Customer Service for assistance with setting it up - specifically I required assistance in getting the proper App downloaded and connected to my mobile device.
