In my quest (well, not really a "quest", more a musical desire) to have music throughout my humble abode I have, over the last month purchased Amazon's Echo speakers (4 of 'em). I returned them as they were just okay but failed to satisfy me musically and I hate talking to Alexa. Next I bought (on SALE!) Insignia's superb GooglieAssistant speakers. Again I bought 4 of them and this time I got the larger ones with the built-in battery and clock and temperature display. How cool is that? Pretty cool, actually. But...Everyone has a big but, so let's talk about mine as it regards this attempt at a musical huzzah. I did NOT like trying to talk with the GooglieAssisant. "She" was even worse than Alexa. The Insignias were otherwise excellent and vastly superior in features and sound to the Echos. I returned them and bought... Two of these wonderful in white Denon Heos HS1 speakers! They cost me more than twice what the Insignias did for half the speakers but I am soooooo PLEASED! At last...my desire for music throughout my castle of cool is sated! These little babies produce excellent sound from a compact enclosure. They work with the Denon AV Receiver I bought from BB and best of all...I DON"T have to say a freakin' word to any A.I. !! Highly recommend for any adult that owns or is considering owning a Denon Receiver with Heos. Even if you don't own one of those you can still use Blootoof to connect to these units! I don't of course but you could. So my magical mystical tour for musical excellence is now complete. At least until I get another Heos speaker... Perhaps the Model 5? And then maybe one more... Trust me. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

Although I got a great Black Friday deal on this, I was hesitant to choose it over Sonos, which was twice the price. Overall, though, the reviews seemed pretty good, though. So, I gave it a shot. It didn't seem too bad. It doesn't look too bad and has decent volum, although the sound is a little muddy. I thought it would be nice to have the option of connecting via bluetooth, but that didn't turn out to be as convenient as I had hoped. I thought I might be able to use it with my Echo Dot and seamlessly switch back and forth between the bluetooth connection for the dot and wifi for streaming. Of course, that was wishful thinking. The application is pretty barebones. One of the limitations is that I can't listen to my personal library stored on Amazon's music service. A Denon support article says that's an Amazon limitation. Maybe, but somehow Sonos figured out a way around it. Also, only a handful of services are currently supported. I knew this going into it, but thought things would get better down the road, and they might. The real deal breaker, though, was the customer service. After two days, SiriusXM would no longer connect, so I opened a case with their "customer service" department asking if this was an outage. I received an out of office reply. Several days later, SiriusXM was still not working (although it worked from the native app). I still hadn't received a reply. So I did a search and found a bulletin on Denon's website apologizing for the outage. Soon after that, I returned the device. To this day (a month later, I still haven't received a reply from Denon's customer service. I did , however, purchase a Sonos Play 1. The quality of the hardware, software and services is so much better, it's astonishing. The sound is perfectly clear, more services, the software is more polished and can do things like play my personal tracks from Amazon. It's like night and day. I have read that the higher end Denon Heos devices have excellent sound and overall hardware. However, if they provide poor software and, worst of all, poor customer service, I really don't have any faith in their ability to compete with Sonos. I'm guessing the Heos line is not going to be around in a few years. Maybe they'll shape up and stay in the game, but based on my experience, I'm not willing to bet on it.

I compared Denon Heos 1 HS2 side by side with Sonos Play 1. In the end I decided on Denon. I purchased 4 of these between Nov & Dec. At the time, Denon was priced at $100-149 while Sonos was $169. Denon is slightly bigger/taller but is not of importance to me. When it comes to sound, Sonos sounds very well balanced at lower volume. When base/treble adjusted and at higher volumes however, Denon actually sounded much, much better in my opinion. When it comes to connectivity, Denon has Bluetooth built in and have USB,line in/aux, and Ethernet options on the back while Sonos do NOT have Bluetooth capability and limited to Ethernet connection only. Denon comes with 2 year warranty while Sonos comes with 1 year warranty. Denon have an optional rechargeable battery that can be purchased separately, which makes it more versatile than Sonos. I purchased this battery and last about 6 hours per charge. I tried in my bathroom and also out on the porch. No cords is awesome although I noticed not as loud compared to when plugged in. Set up was okay via Aux port. Heos app is so-so and does not support iTunes. There's a work around but is a hassle. I hear in 2017 iTunes is a possibility so that's my hope. Denon Customer Service was 42 minutes wait when I called for a question. For these 3 things, I am taking out 1 star off my total rating. These speakers are good individually or as a pair. I have used mine both ways. I am using mostly via wi-fi but have also used it a few times as Bluetooth. No connectivity issues both ways. For most of the times, my 2 sets of speakers are paired as lefts and rights in my master bedroom and also in my living/dining/kitchen which are open floor plan. So far, I am simply loving them.

The title pretty much says it. We have bought three over the summer, and we are very happy with the sound quality. Of course, the overall sound quality isn't as good as the Heos 5 that we have also purchased during this same time. Bigger bass in the 5 - to be expected at the price. So why only 4 stars here when 5 on the others? Well, it has to do with connectivity. The Denon Heos app is pretty handy and flexible, but we have run into a connection issue with the Bluetooth. My son had both a gen 1 (wifi only) and a gen 2 (wifi + BT) that worked perfectly in a standard stereo L + R setup here at our house on our wifi. But his university has a closed network -- students cannot run their own routers for all their own phones, tablets, printers and, in our case, speakers. He has not been able to use his iOS Bluetooth to set these up in a stereo configuration, and he doesn't have all my old mono cables to experiment with a wired system. So we may be able to find a fix in the future, but at this point he can only stream from his iPhone to just one speaker

I have a Heos 7, Heos link, Heos home cinema sound bar and 2 Heos 1. I love the Heos line up but will only give 1 star due to Best Buy customer service. The product title says it is portable. The product specs on this states that it is rechargeable and under battery type it list Lithium-ion. When I received my order it was not the portable model with the battery go pack. Customer service claimed that since a battery wasn't in the what's included that it wasn't supposed to have one. That where it says battery type and rechargable in the PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS just means that is the type you buy. However the AC converter and link cables weren't listed either but they are included. At first they told me I could return it for a refund but It was on sale and I want what I ordered the way it was represented on their website. After a long debate they were going to contact the vendor to reship to see if I got a different product. If they don't make this right I will never make another purchase at Best Buy.

I tried the excellent Insignia GoogliegIRL speakers. Nice but I hate talking to GooglieGirl. I tried Amazon's Alexa speakers. Not as nice as the Insignia GooglieGirl speakers and I don't like talking to Alexa. I have a Denon AV Receiver I got at BB with Heos built in. Guess what? These little speakerettes are fantastico! No need to be hoping some A.I. female voice will recognize my voice and play my music, I pick what I what and send it where I want it. No regrets! No if onlys? No buyer's remorse! No kidding. These are superdedoooper! These are excellent speakers and I am going to be getting at least two more in the future. Highly recommend! Trust me. I know what I'm doing when I'm reviewin'!

I bought four of these and a Denon receiver. Out of the four speakers, one locked up and had to be hard reset on the first day, one is completely dead, and another one refused to take the firmware update until it was also hard reset. The app has issues with Pandora and will drop room groupings, and the speakers don't sound great for the price point they're at. I'm honestly on the verge of returning the entire system and going a different route. Also the fact that you can't configure these as true surround sound speakers with the Denon receiver is just absurd.

I would have given this speaker 5 stars if the documentation was better, but its sadly lacking (especially where the HEOS app is concerned). Once you have it figured out and set up though, it's capable of very good sound for such a small package. We have one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen, plus a HEOS-enabled AVR in the family room. Streaming content between 1, 2, or all 3 devices with a couple of swipes is very useful. Being able to take control of the bathroom speaker and put on annoying songs like the Hamster Dance or Macarena while my wife is powerless in the shower is simply priceless however :-)

      Denon Heos 1 (HS2) review
This reasonably-priced wireless speaker doesn't scrimp on features. But with hot competition from better-known multi-room speaker brands, the Denon Heos 1 (HS2) will have to match that with great performance to tempt you away from Sonos and Bose.Full Review
