    Great Gameplay, Lacking in Story

Destiny is a great game as long as you are not looking for a deep narrative experience. Tight mechanics and good looking environments kept me coming back as I replayed missions in order to grind levels and search for more loot. The story left me wanting more, the world never feels completely real and most of the lore is not actually available in-game. Where the game really shines is when you can experience it with other players. Strike missions can pair you with two other players via matchmaking to take on more difficult missions with better chances for rare loot, and the raids are a great way to truly test your skill as long as you bring along a few friends in order to stand a chance. Destiny definitely falls short in terms of story, but that did not stop me from spending hours upon hours running through strikes, doing patrols, and collecting bounties in my endless search for that rare piece of loot that makes my character that much more powerful.

This game is very addicting, it is awesome to play thorough, and the expansion packs are a must. As far as replay value, it is pretty good, however as you get up into the higher levels, it can be a bit of a grind to further yourself. Can't wait for the second expansion to be released!

It's a really great game but I know how a lot of other people feel about this game and it is true of you don't like grinding and putting the effort in it this game can be quite repetitive and boring. Also it helps a lot of you know people that play this game to get end game content

My kids love the game. They are 13 and 15. They play online with their friends. Even after the games they have gotten for christmas, they still play this and come back to it often. Thanks to Best buy's gamers club, I can afford to buy them more games.

Outstanding gameplay and level progression. The story is very weak, and the game is very DLC heavy. The end of the story is really the beginning of the enjoyable part of the game. Once you max level, there is not much to do until the DLC though.

If you don't have the Xbox gold, and start this game...you might be worried. There are tons of what are obviously other players around. This, apparently, is normal, as you just can't really interact with them as the gold people could. That being said the game is quite interesting. Good storyline, neat progression of abilities and weapons and a nice assortment of opponents who actually don't feel generic. I will say this: Without gold you don't get any of the PvP/team aspects. Now this keeps it from being a 5 star for one reason. There are a few missions on each planet. You can do the missions again, but I sense they were counting on the variety of team play and PvP to really keep people hooked. NOTE: This doesn't make it a bad game, and even without gold it's still worth buying, but might need more to be a 5 star for longer solo playability.

We have 3 very active players of this game in the house now. Great game play experience, pretty cool music. The game story line is kind of short, but they more than make up for it with the strikes and other quests that come along. Well worth the moneys!

My boys (7 and 9 year old) and I enjoy playing this game. It is nice that there is no blood. It is a fun game that keeps you busy for a while. The game gets better as you go because you get upgraded weapons and abilities the more that you play.

A husk of what could have been

Let me preface this review by saying I did not play any of the dlc or The Taken King expansion, I only purchased the core game. However, even if I did and found it to completely turn around my opinion of destiny it wouldn't change the fact that this game by itself should have been more than what was given. There are major controversies surrounding the title. That it is unfinished, story scrapped and changed, etc. Even when you are oblivious to gaming news and culture it is blatantly obvious that this game is definitely not what it could have been. There is barely any story and whatever story there is it's very by the books story telling that doesn't offer anything engaging for the player. The gameplay itself is enjoyable which is this games only saving grace. The gun's look and sound great along with the very pleasant to look at environments. Being able to take down huge bosses with a small group of your friends is a very enjoyable experience but very quickly dulls as you realize every single boss is just a bullet sponge that no matter how you approach takes a huge chunk of your time. That's the biggest issue with this game, is that no matter how much time spent you can't help but feel that there is nothing gained from it. Sure you level up and unlock new skills but even when you have those added abilities it doesn't make that much of a difference over the course of your time playing. Complete a strike, poor exposition, progress to the next strike, rinse and repeat. I purchased this game at $20.00 and was greatly underwhelmed, I can't imagine how somebody who paid full price on this game would have felt at launch. Bottom line: It's practically beating a dead horse at this point when you talk about the problems of Destiny. This is a game that is very okay when it could have truly been amazing. If you enjoy MMO structure storytelling, RPG level progression, and playing with multitudes of people or friends then this game is for you. Otherwise, save the money and get a game worthy of your time.

Perfect change of pace from the stale genre that COD has turned the FPS into. The story may seem a little watered down, being that expansions are coming out soon and it's planned to be a 10 year long franchise, but the gameplay is is awesome. Very easy to navigate the game, progression is very rewarding, and the graphics keep up with today's standards. Bungie does a great job supporting the game and provides frequent updates. There's also plenty of replay value. Only downside is that an internet connection is required, which is just fine for most.

I've played a lot of similar games, such as Halo and Call of Duty, but Destiny is in a class by itself! The story mode is great, but the multi-player aspects are the best! The open-world mode is great to (Strike and Patrol missions).

this game is played on a server so if you have internet connection problems this isn't the game for you. It is more of a multiplayer game so don't expect the story to be great. It's still a fun game to play.

Worth looking at, great idea. The main issues I have with this game are: 1. Highly repetitive 2. Party size limited to 3 3. Rep grinding 4. PvP in no way balanced, even though it says it is, higher levels have better weapons and kill you quicker, there doesn't appear to be any normalization on weapon power. What I like about it: 1. Great combination of RPG/MMO with First person shooter gameplay. 2. Fun, even if single player story line is a little lacking. 3. Quests and rewards.

All of my friends have been playing for a while now so I had to jump on the bandwagon and join them. Very addicting FPS, tons to do/upgrade/acquire/etc. Re-play factor is very high so the game is a great value as well.

This game is an astounding marriage of RPG and FPS. The leveling features and perk systems are intuitive and interesting without being too old-hat. Certain small details keep gameplay significantly different and fresh. For example, rather than the usual practice of having to pick up extra grenades off of the ground, grenades in Destiny recharge over time. This means you can only use one grenade every so often, so using grenades takes more strategy, not just in where you throw them, but also when you throw them. Areas scale in difficulty to your level, but there are also options to revisit old missions with stronger enemies. This, combined with the interesting variety between the three classes, add tremendous replay value to the game. The arsenal is varied enough to allow player to cater to their particular style, whether that be "spray-n-pray," "one-shot-one-kill," or anything in between. So much of the game just FEELS good, and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters: did I have fun playing this game? Each sub-class ability is fun to use, and each kill with a vital shot rewards you with a more satisfying death animation. And lastly, though certainly not least, Destiny has an immense and entertaining multiplayer system, where players can battle against each other in competitive battle arenas, fight aliens together in cooperative missions, or just wave to each other if they happen to cross paths on the surface of the planet on which they happen to be at the time. Smooth gameplay, significantly interesting character designs and plot, and wonderfully addictive bounty/achievement systems make this game an absolute delight for the average gamer. Bungie was hard-pressed to develop something outstanding in the shadow of their previous success, Halo, but somehow Destiny pulled through. If you liked Halo, Borderlands, Bioshock, Mass Effect, First- Person Shooters, Role-Playing Games, or any combination thereof, you owe it to yourself to try this game.

    Does not worth $60

I would NOT recommend buying this game if it is selling at $60, because you're required to purchase an additional $35 expansion in order to play the weekly events and end game content. The story is nonexistence, so it's pretty much you're here to shoot some bad guys called Darkness, that's it. I have to admit that the early game is quite fun if you're playing with friends. The non-DLC lasts around 6-8 hours so it will make a great weekend rental. Unfortunately, you cannot do split screen co-op, so you will need 2 xbox or more. After you've reached level 20, the only thing that is missing is the raid. The raid is fun, but there's no matchmaking and people generally only play with level 28+. The problem with that is it is extremely boring to get to level 28+. You'll be replaying the same mission over 200 times waiting for the random loot generator to give you piece of armor you need to level up. Or you'll ended up having the marks and reputation to buy the gear from vendor (that will easily take more than 200 strikes mission). The strike missions that you have to repeated is also quite frustrating. The enemies are generally dumb, but they are bullet sponge. It takes 10 clips and 5 minutes to gun one of the boss down, and all it does and just sit there and mindlessly shoot at you. Some people buy the game for the PVP experience. Although the PVP is very nice and controls are great. The PVP is very unbalanced due to exotics weapon being allowed in the game. The new players without these exotics will likely get destroyed, which is no fun honestly. And the exotics are not accessible because they are usually drop inNightfall strikes (which requires DLC) or the boring strike missions.

The game's story may be short but you find out it isn't really even about story mode. Its a really great game to play with your friends as you strategize your way through tough bosses.
