Weakest Series Since the Show was Revived in 2005

Series-8 of (the new) Doctor Who is the weakest since the show was revived in 2005. Some have blamed this on the new lead actor, Peter Capaldi, but he plays the Doctor as well as anyone could given the poor quality of the writing of some of the episodes, combined with the exceedingly dark tone of this season (or series in Britain). That said, there are several very good stories, such as "Robot of Sherwood" and "Time Heist". "Deep Breath" and the 2-part finale "Dark Water" / "Death in Heaven" were also pretty good. The episodes that I consider real clunkers are "Kill the Moon", where Earth's Moon turns out to be a giant moth egg infested with giant spiders, and "In the Forest of the Night" which has more plot problems than I can to cover in short review. For those, I'm only giving the series set 4-stars. Thankfully, series-9 is better. I'd recommend series-8 on Blu-ray, but with some reservations.

Another Excellent Season of Doctor Who...

I'm a big "Doctor Who" fan. And, I have every one of the new series' DVD sets. However, I failed to pick-up this set when it first came out, and then the price shot, way up, everywhere. So, I was quite unhappy for a while, but then I happened to see this set in BestBuy for around thirty dollars, and grabbed it.
I don't know how you feel about Peter Capaldi (it took a while for me to like him), but after getting used to him... and then re-watching his first season... "Series Eight"... I have come to appreciate (and really like) his Doctor.
If you're a Doctor Who fan, and have the other sets... this is a no-brainer.

Phenomenal, powerful, and morally grey

As Murray Gold's solemn piano notes score the final scene of the finale, I am contently happy and satisfied that Season 8 of Doctor Who has become my favourite season, created my favourite companion, and possesses Peter Capaldi who I feel is the best, if not my favourite, Doctor. After almost three seasons of unnecessarily convoluted story arcs and shallow uninteresting companions, the show has returned to full form with powerful character development, intriguing adventures, and drama as morally grey as the Doctor's hair. Season 8 is absolutely phenomenal and I hope for the best for Season 9 this Fall.

This review is intended for fans of the 12th Doctor (Peter Capuldi) . I bought this DVD set to keep my collection of Doctor Who complete. As for the product itself, the packaging is very colorful and the cover graphic very compelling that captures the latest Doctor's personality. As a fan of the show, I'm not that impressed with either the Doctor or his companion. I find John Hurt's portrayal of the guilt-ridden war doctor more believable than Mr. Capuldi's dark and introverted perspective. I tend to drift more to the 9th-11th doctors myself. This review is no means a negative on bestbuy and their price point. If you like the new doctor, this set is as good as its gets.

Ever since rebooting this classic series, I have been a fan. This was on sale for under $20. Usually these are priced at $50-$60 so when I saw it on sale I had to get. The show is well written and what I like about the Dr. Who series is that kids at the age of 11 and up can watch this. A great show!

Enjoyed the clarity of the blue ray format. Regarding the storyline and doctor characterization it seemed a bit jerky and dry at first but grows on you with time. The turn over of seasons left the storyline which was starting to develop at the end of Matt Smith's 11th doctor namely the reemergent of the Timelord's hanging. Hopefully a plot can be developed to bring them back without fear of universal armageddon. Perhaps the'll come through a CVE to fight back the dreaded Dalek's (with doctor help of course).

I have watched Doctor Who since I was in Middle School and PBS began to rebroadcast the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker). That was nearly 35 years ago. I have enjoyed the revival of Doctor Who with improved scripts, actors and special effects compared to decades ago. I like Peter Capaldi but I am not prepared to give this season lower marks despite liking some of the prior seasons better but this is because the transistion between doctor's can sometimes be rough.

This season focuses on the Doctor relearning himself and Clara going along for the ride. They face many challenges and overcome them. Clara slowly gets used to the new regeneration as does the audience. She helps us get there to accept him.

In keeping with the Sci-Fi tradition of Doctor who, the eighth season is as good as all the other seasons, and I've bought them all. Clara puts her subtle wit and humor against the doctors new found ineptness but brainy solution to the cosmic mysteries of all universes. VERY GOOD STUFF!

I have loved Doctor Who since I was little and every Doctor keeps getting better and better and the newest Doctor is no exception to that rule. He is a bit different then Tenant and Smith but in a good way. Hopefully we will have many more seasons with our Newest Doctor.

With each new Doctor there is an adjustment period to get used to a different actor in the role. Peter Capaldi is more difficult to like as the Doctor because of his, so far, low key portrayal . Otherwise, there is nothing as entertaining as the Doctor Who Series.

First time I'm seeing this season since it aired. It still plays well. Even the goofier episodes are fun. The extras are good too. Not as many commentaries as I would like but they're informative enough to hold my interest.

The Doctor and Clara continue their adventures with a twist! Peter Capaldi brings a new face and personality to the Doctor's next regeneration with some fierce eyebrows! He may be different from Matt Smith, but he's still saving the day

So this season we have a new Doctor! New face and personality. Love the opening episode Deep Breath. Lots of changes with this Doctor and can't wait to see what happens next. Love that I can get all the episodes at once with this set. Only thing that frustrates me is the price since the sets usually start at 60 in the past and now they have jerked it up an extra $20 everywhere.

Being an avid fan of the current Doctor Who series...this was a must. While Netflix may be airing the season soon...there are extras that cannot be seen by merely streaming it.

I was a little skeptical when they were changing Dr's, but the new Dr has grown into the part well. This is another great season of the new Dr Who. Dr Who never ceases to amaze me, what a fantastic show.

Steven Moffat brings another season of Who with a new Doctor, more companions, more twists and a nice story arc. Although shorter than recent seasons this box set is still a satisfying purchase with many extra features.
