Customers are saying

Customers are positive about Dragon's Dogma 2's engaging gameplay, expansive open world, and compelling story, with many praising the exploration and unique pawn system. However, customers are negative about the inconsistent performance and frame rate issues experienced on some platforms, as well as the lack of a steelbook case for some pre-orders. The limited fast travel options also drew criticism. While some found the difficulty level manageable, others felt it lacked challenge.

It is an improvement upon the first title. The gameplay and story are great. There's also a bunch of unique side quests and monsters that keep the game interesting. This game is a little bit harder than the first one. The only issue I have experienced was frame rate drops. It's not too bad, but it's definitely noticable when casting spells. The grapics are a little bit below par with other current RPGs, but they are an improvement and not terrible. Overall, the positives significantly outweighs the negatives and I definitely recommend this game especially if you loved the first one!

I drove 60 miles roundtrip to pick up Dragon's Dogma II and Princess Peach Showtime. 6 employees including 2 managers had their hand in my transaction today which mind you was a preorder. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong and unfortunately, this has been the ongoing trend for a few years now. Dragon's Dogma II didn't come with a steelbook so I asked for the steelbook. Another cashier decided to jump into our conversation and blurted out that there isn't a steelbook for Dragon's Dogma II. I said 'Yes, there is a steelbook and it's on your website. I showed him the product page for the game and even the separate product page for the steelbook. The manager of Store #251 named 'Dave' comes over and doesn't say anything for the first 2 minutes as he types away on the computer screen. He then told me that since I purchased the game online for store pickup my order has nothing to do with 'HIS' store and that if I want this steelbook that I'm claiming is part of the preorder then I will need to take it up with the 'Online People'. Stellar customer service Dave, you really made me want to come back to the store and do more business with you. I responded to Dave by saying that I've never been told before that my online order for store pickup has nothing to do with "HIS" store and that I've picked up a countless number of steelbooks at Best Buy that I preordered online for store pickup and Dave say’s “Yeah that's not the way it works” but doesn't elaborate and walks away saying nothing else. Ok... Then I let the cashier know that I also needed to pick up Princess Peach Showtime. He looked for my preorder and couldn't find it so he flagged down Geek Squad to look for it. Mind you, there was a stack of about 20 copies of Princess Peach Showtime sitting directly behind him. Geek Squad came over and looked into it and then told me "Yeah this game hasn’t been released yet”. I then kindly pointed out that the game was right there behind you on the shelf. Then they flag another manager to come over and look into the situation. After much deliberation, he said that the truck that arrived on Thursday hasn't been inventoried yet (It's Friday afternoon) and that's why we can't give you your preordered copy of Princess Peach Showtime. Mind you that Princess Peach Showtime was part of a Buy 2/Get 1 Free deal so if I canceled my preorder, I would be charged $59.99 when this was the free game. I said ok, so you can't give me my preorder but can you sell me the game? The answer was that they can sell me the game but they couldn't give me the game I paid for as part of the preorder and that it might not be inventoried until Saturday. So I ended up buying the game and then changed my preorder on the Best Buy App to be shipped to me but now I’ll have to drive 60 miles roundtrip again to return the preorder when it arrives to get my money back since they couldn’t process my preorder pickup. Additionally, they didn't have the Princess Peach Showtime Acrylic Display Preorder Bonus and said that they had “never even heard of it”. Again, I showed the Manager their Best Buy Website showing the preorder bonus and without even looking he said “yeah, I haven’t seen that anywhere”. So I drove 60 miles roundtrip, all this back and forth took about 45 minutes only for me to come home without either preorder bonus, I was assigned homework by Dave because now I have to reach out to the "Online People' to try and hunt down my steelbook and on top of that I'll have to go back to the store and return my preorder that is now being shipped to my house since they couldn't give me my preorder bonus. Unbelievable. I review video games for a living and trying to do business with Best Buy has become detrimental to my business. Additionally, I have an entire chat transcript with Best Buy from March 5th asking about the steelbook for Dragon's Dogma II and the Customer Service representative said that he guarantees that if I preorder Dragon's Dogma II I will receive a free steelbook. I tried to show the chat transcript to the Manager Dave and he again said “He has nothing to do with that and again that I'll have to take it up with the 'Online People' because his store has nothing to do with them”. Worst experience ever. Best Buy continues to outdo itself with each visit. I’d love to just have my game preorders mailed to me but if I do that they end up coming 3-5 days after the release date so I do store pickup instead so I can start playing the game and working on my review on release day. I used to love going to Best Buy and have been going here since the early 90's and every time I come here to pick up a preorder, I have to deal with the same nonsense where they either can’t find my order or have no clue about the preorder bonus. I only preorder here for the steelbooks or preorder bonuses because honestly, the customer service I receive at Best Buy is so bad that I won't do any other business with them if I don't have to which is quite sad. But it’s even worse when you go through the pain of doing business with Best Buy and they don’t even give you your preorder bonus. I even called the Best Buy Customer Service number today and waited on hold for about 30 minutes only for the person on the other end to say they couldn’t hear me and then they hung up. Suffice to say, it's been a very draining experience trying to do business with Best Buy. I cannot in good conscious recommend anyone to shop at Best Buy, even if it's for the preorder bonuses, and that if you want your physical game on release day, go somewhere else to pick it up.

As a big fan of the first dragons dogma this was a must buy! It’s feels like more contents for the first game, in a good way! Only down side on console is that it’s mainly 30fps and locked at 4K. Would much rather play at 60fps 1080p myself. But my eyes are already used to 30fps Gameplay is as fun as the first and even better. (With some camera issues) World is fun to explore. Monster density is kinda of intense. Micro transactions are present, but at no point did I feel the need to buy anything. Overall an amazing game, and hoping this gets a dlc like the first game.

If you enjoyed the first one, then you'll enjoy this one too. Still wish there was a coop mode. The pawn system is still pretty neat. Combat and exploration is a joy. There is no melee lock-on, but it does help with aiming a bit if you position your character correctly. There was a lack in communication about there being a delay in getting a preorder steelbook case bonus. It initially seemed like we just wouldn't get the item at all. It did get shipped directly eventually.

When I was a kid, I loved the feeling of awe, wonder, and--sometimes--terror I would get when just exploring the world in fantasy games. Dragon's Dogma II is a game that made me experience those feelings all over again. The world is huge, filled with life, death, beauty, and danger. The game encourages you to travel the world on foot and discourages fast travel, causing you to naturally wander off the beaten path and into some truly exciting adventures. The game can often be brutal--not as bad as a FromSoftware game--but your Pawns (NPC party members) can fill in any gaps you may have in combat. Ultimately, Dragon's Dogma II is a game you can easily sink 100+ hours into, and--in my opinion--it's worth it.

My biggest praise for this game is its world. It's richly realistic (as much as a fantasy world can be) and detailed, which makes it a joy to explore. And the beauty of it - I can't count the number of times I've come to a hilltop or cliffside and looked off to the distance, marveling at all that's visible. If you enjoyed the first Dragon's Dogma, you'll enjoy this one even more. It still feels a bit half-baked in some ways, but the depth of gameplay is excellent.

Only played about 10-20 hours so far but the game is great graphics are clean for a next gen and the world is bright and beautiful combat is complex enough to add variety while being simple enough to for newer players to get use to the world feel alive with tons of random real time events to keep the player on its toes while still giving the player time to admire the beautiful landscapes that the developers took time to create and while game does not have questgiver markers on the map it only helps to make the world seem more alive and with questgivers seemingly approaching the player on the street when they need help or on the roads when in danger I have not explored too much of the story just yet but from what I have experienced so far it does a good job with its mix of mystery and drama

I recommend this game IF YOU'RE A FAN OF THE FIRST ONE. I dont think a new person to this series or to rpgs in general would enjoy this as your first experience. After 100 hours i would say the combat is excelent, its what the game does best. However it falls short in almost every other catagory. On top of this the game still suffers from performance issues such as frame drops and overall is not user friendly. Having only 1 save in a game released in 2024 just feels bad. If you're looking for something to try and are willing to put in the time and effort to learn this game i think its a great game and i genuinely enjoy it, but with performance issues and certian "design choices" its hard to reccomend if you're not already a fan.

I was very excited for this game, watching multiple reviews; i thought i know how the game would play. The Pawns get repetitive very quickly, maybe 30 mins in I heard the same line five times. The combat can seem very easy depending on which vocation (class) you have. I chose archer and if I get hit by anything I seem to get in a stun lock and i'm very vulnerable. But my Warrior pawn is a TANK; so its all about party variety. If you like games that just say explore this game is for you, but get ready to back track 5-20 mins bevause the map will lead you to a dead end even though via map its clear. This is the most infuriating part of the game. For example geting to the nameless village, though when exploring a little, seems impossible. There were guides the 1st day the game came out on how to get there. This happened multiplw times, whwre map would say go here but blocked. The second most infuriating part of the game is the guards. OH MY GOD are they absolutely horrible. When doing a quest, when trying to talk with someone I accidentally ran into them causing 7 guards to attack me. The talk button is the run button, no clue on who thought that was smart. This attack had also forefited the quest I was doing til maybe the next week, honestly dont know in game says the event isnt avaiable anymore, so thats fun. I have approx 12 hours in and I havent even completed the first major quest in the main city yet, there is like 7 parts to the quest.

Only problems are pawns stepping of cliffs. Carried a npc for a quest when i walked on a sloped rock dropped the damsel an tried to pick her up and would automatically fall dead on 3rd drop. Oh don't forget ALL them oiled down rocks. The fights are fun. You don't have to fight any one way with all these vocations. The exploration is fun as all heck.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a wonderful mixture of fantasy, action/RPG, and world building all in one neat package. You create your main character (Arisen) and your sidekick (pawn) and you get two other pawns on your team. These pawns can be from your friend’s list or random from the other players in the community. You unfortunately cannot play online with your friends, you can only have your friends’ pawns on your team which is somewhat of a bummer. It’s missing that social element that would’ve taken the game to a new level. The gameplay is very smooth, casting takes time (so if you decide to be a mage or sorcerer be mindful that you’ll need heavy hitters to get in close or at least give you a chance to cast your spells), when you die your overall health goes down but you can make a camp and rest to regain it….unless you get attacked while you’re resting (it happens more than I’d like tbh) All in all the game is crafted masterfully. The meat and potatoes of the game are free, folks are upset about micro transactions but realistically you can enjoy the game completely without ever spending an extra dollar.

This title was pretty excellent. Fun combat, interesting classes, pawn system improved, climbing on monsters is amazing. Story was a little lackluster. The 2nd act of the game felt pretty shallow. There could have been more enemy types, but over all this was a great game. I RP'd as Jesus, ot was great.

Great openworld and exploration, but terrible story and storytelling, although all the ingredients are there. I do feel the game ends on a high note if you go through the true ending making up for the lackluster mainquest. But the gameplay and exploration definitely make up for it.

Not bringing up the fact I ordered this a month early and got it a week late, this is my honest review having 129 hours of gameplay. This sequel truly missed the mark in gameplay. The previous iterations of the game had it charm and gameplay that was so good it defined the generation it came out on. This sequel? It took things/gameplay that were established in the early games and broke it down to some bare bones version. Example: In the first game, climbing enemies was straight forward but now they made it hard to do for no good reason, like you can be climbing up a golem's back and end up on its arm through no real fault of your own. Another example is enemies who react to horns and tusks being broken in the first games barely react the same in this. You could freeze a saurian solid and break it into chunks but now you can't. They handicapped the classes like archer, making it somehow slower and only effective with arrow variants. I could say more I'm disappointed with but if I can sum it up on the failures of this sequel is that they didn't go backwards, they just broke down what made the first games good and stretched it. Please understand that this review isn't coming from anger but disappointment. The original made me genuinely happy which is why I have as many hours as I do on this sequel. There's bits and pieces of it(the original) still in this sequel and if anything, this gameplay wise, should have been the first game because it was truly fantastic. Other than that, the game is beautiful graphically and if you never played the first one, play this and then play the original. Hope this helps.

Story is kinda boring, but the gameplay is good. Doesn't have much enemy variety so you're probably gonna get tired of it a little because of how many times you run into monsters but because of the different classes you can use it helps the game not get too old fast.

Stop crying about the microtransactions, legit. Keep playing the game and you will find all you need to get by more than enough. It takes a good amount of time to really enjoy it the most but once you're in about 25 hours you know how it all works and it gets real good. I understand microtransactions but here's some advice, DON'T BUY THEM. You can get by just fine without any of them, walk, explore the world and just lose yourself in the world. So happy with the purchase, you will not regret it.
