Customers love the entertainment value of Dynasty Warriors 9, citing its action, music, and graphics. However, significant criticism focuses on the game's gameplay and the poorly implemented open world. Many feel the open world detracted from the game experience, and that the overall gameplay was subpar compared to other titles. The game's visuals and AI were also frequently cited as areas needing improvement.

I'm somewhat pleased and yet disappointed with dynasty warriors 9.
The pros: Beautiful scenery, well done Chinese and Japanese voice acting, awesome soundtrack, and easy trophy objectives.
The cons: Horrible specs for an 8th generation game (runs 30 fps 720p on standard console and pc, 40 fps 920p on higher end console and pc), Drops frames left and right, lackluster weapons selection, convoluted fighting mechanics, and just all round super buggy.
When it comes to dynasty warriors 9, rather you're a casual or a die hard fan, you're either going to enjoy it or hate it.

This game doesn't play anything like the older ones. They scrapped their model for an attempt at an Open World game. While I think it was an interesting idea it unfortunately was not implemented well.
It is really cool to pull up the world map and realize that there is fighting going on everywhere and you can travel anywhere you want but once you realize most of it is just the same copy and pasted general standing in place by himself waiting for you to run and and kill him it loses its luster.
Most of the game can come down to just running up to whoever you need to kill, killing him, and moving on. Even if they are in a building or castle you can just use your grapple to scale any wall and do the same. You can finish most levels killing 10 people if you want, which is CRAZY considering this is a Dynasty Warriors game.
As funny as it sounds this game plays well if you give yourself some rules to play by. If you stick to the roads only and defeat every camp/stronghold on the way to your objective instead of just cutting across the map it plays pretty good. The problem is that you aren't really incentivized to do so.
All in all it's a pretty disappointing Dynasty Warriors game. I didn't go into the Fishing, Hunting, and crafting systems because I just don't think any of them were implemented well enough. There are some decent ideas here but it came out as more of a jumbled mess unfortunately.

DW9 had a rough start. Obviously undercooked and stretched too thin. But after some patches, it runs better on base PS4. It still has problems, an empty open world, cloned movesets (though DLC adds new weapons, sadly overpriced), the terrible grappling hook, and so on. Still, I actually enjoy it for what it is.

I’ve been a long time fine since DW3 and I own all of them. This game isn’t anywhere near as bad as people make it out to me. It isn’t the greatest either. The open world is barebones for the post part, but there are some things to do. The story mode is entertaining and seeing the battlefield evolve through sub quests is definitely fun and exciting. However, at the same time it can kind of drag out. All in all, I would recommend this to die hard fans only.

The Open World feature could’ve had so much potential like Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed or The Witcher, but it was wasted on this game. The visual, AI and gameplay took a downward spiral nosedive compared to the previous games as well. And if you thought the English voice acting was bad before, it’s gotten...a lot worse. Cao Cao is pronounced Tsao Tsao and Cow Cow by different people. They’re not even on the same page.
Even if you’re a fanboy, you may want to steer clear of this title. I haven’t played a game this bad since No Man’s Sky

It feels odd to criticize a franchise like Dynasty Warriors for trying something new, but it's 9th core entry flops purely from it's original concepts.
Swapping out the level system for a large open world seems like a fitting idea. That is until it becomes clear how empty and pointless this new location is. Yes, you can fish and hunt, neither of which a fleshed out enough to be entertaining, but most of your travels will be spent watching your horse autorun to the next destination.
Once there, yes it's Dynasty Warriors. Well, sort of. The missions are incredibly short by the series standard and the emphasis of the equipment customization adds busy work.
In other words, these new systems are extended interactive load screens for a watered down Warriors experience. There's a wealth of these titles available, all of which are better than this clunky, bloated, boring hack n slash.

DW9 had a pretty rough release, being an open world nobody asked for and missing the series' staple co-op. Luckily, the last year saw a lot of improvements, including both split-screen and online co-op, and the game is pretty solid. Do know that the basic loop of "wander a giant world, collect garbage to craft, do a series of similar missions" hasn't changed much, so if that was an issue, it still is.

I've played most all of the DW games since DW3. Once you get used to the new open world concept and all of the extra side missions it's actually pretty fun. The voices are very different from past games which may be the hardest to get used to. All in all I do really enjoy playing this game.

I love the dynasty warriors games, I’ve been playing them for years. I like the changes they made, the open world is a really cool concept. It’s lacking in a few areas but I think it turned out really well. It could really use character creation though.

This game has been getting a lot of slack because of the frame issue it's been having but I have hope that koei will fix it. It can be a repetitive game but for all the right reasons. If you can look past it's issues it's a really fun game.

I have always been a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series. I was originally excited to see how they did open world. It sort of works with open world but at the same time I think it would be better to have a mix of empires with the stages from previous versions of the series.

It is an open world concept which is not a typical warriors series. It's okay but not having a multi-player option is definitely minus.
