Im a huge Hector Lavoe fan, but I must admit, Mark Anthony can sing his songs just as good or even better, I loved the movie, the story is kind of sad, but its real life, the music its of course great

I loved this movie about Hector Lavoe. Marc Anthony nailed it singing his songs. This was my era and I have great memories when I watch this Movie. Just love it and J Lo was very good in the movie. You won’t be disappointed if you like Hector Lavoe’s music!

Love this movie, I could watch it over and over again! Love the music and enjoy more cause its a true story! I love how these two actors come together and always turn it up!!

It's a great movie and has significant personal meaning to me and would recommend it to anyone who likes salsa.

Marc Anthony does a great job portraying Hector Lavoe. JLO AND Marcs chemistry make it that more realistic.

It is very tough for a celebrity such as Jennifer Lopez to be taken seriously in the Hollywood light. Lopez had her moments of serious recognition for her performances (Selena, Out of Sight), and ridiculed, humiliated for others (Gigli). It has been until recent when she began receiving the same applause from her "Selena" days. "An Unfinished Life" proved that Lopez does not always settle for romantic-comedies (The Wedding Planner, Monster-In-Law). However, I think it is her performance in "El Cantante" where her acting ability soars past any film she has done in the past. Let's face it... we all know that Lopez will receive no nomination for her performance as Puchi, wife of Hector Lavoe. It would be amazing if she did, and while Lopez should, HFP and the Academy would not recognize her. I am not going to lie... I am a Jennifer Lopez fan, but that does not mean I have to approve of everything she does. I did not enjoy "Gigli," nor did I enjoy "Angel Eyes." I think there was an elapsed time where Lopez lost focus of her career, and I am not the first fan to mention that. This movie and her first Spanish-language album, "Como Ama Una Mujer," puts the spotlight back onto Lopez with a more mature outlook on where her career will lead to. El Cantante, a.k.a. Marc Anthony. Pretty much the sole reason for this movie being made is to highlight the life of Hector Lavoe from the viewpoint of Puchi. As the reviewer said prior to mine, Anthony was born to play this role. The look = perfect. The acting = perfect, but with minimal flaws. The singing = FLAWLESS. Again, this type of movie is being compared to other biopics (Walk the Line, Ray) and obviously was poorly received compared to those Oscar-nominated films. With Anthony's amazing vocal range with Lopez's astonishing acting ability, this movie should have found greatness. If you enjoy salsa, you will enjoy this movie. It's sexy and vibrant with a great story line, and tragic ending, as do most biopics.

I've never been a huge fan of Jennifer Lopez, but she did an excellent job . No one could of played this part better than her. Marc Anthony's acting was excellent aswell. (He was born to play the part). People have to understand that this was Puchi's version of Hector Lavoe's life. It's really sad that this woman spend most of her life with Hector and then put his business out on the street the way she did. Her story didn't effect the way I feel about Hector at all. He accomplish many things as a musician and latino. He wasn't called "El Cantante" de los Cantantes for nothing. Despite Hector's drug addition, people loved him and he will always be a Salsa icon in the Hispanic community. There is alot of drug and bad language, but that's just the way it was. (Real story). If you don't like those type of movies don't go watch it. Simply as that.

This movie proved what I suspected for a long time, that neither J. Lopez or M. Anthony can act. The movie was in itself sad regarding Hector's life, but I felt that more emphasis was needed on the details of his biography than on Jennifer Lopez biological attributes. They should have named this movie "Puchi" (This was the nickname of Hectors wife.) instead of "El Cantante" Too many things happened in the movie that went unexplained. I hope dear Hector is not turning in his grave. As a latin New Yorker and a great fan of Hector L. I was offended at the way his life was portrayed here. For every three seconds of salsa music played or sung, they would show 20 minutes about his drug habit. Jennifer and Mark...Do you really need money this badly?
