Amazing movie for any Evangelion fan. It'll go kinda fast paced and some scenes that you'll expect won't be there. But the animation in HD is awesome. Like a dream come true. The booklet will have some extra information and the extras will definitively make you appreciate all the work animators have to go through to make any great quality movie like this one.

Evangelion 1.11 is the film version of the first 6 episodes of the original anime but this time with a larger budget and all the perks of a larger budget

If you’re a fan of the original television show Neon Genesis Evangelion, this movie is an hd remastering of the first few episodes. Love it

Excellent new adaptation of the neat anime of all time. Only drawback is due to other commitments this series won’t wrap up until like 2020z

I'm a huge fan of the Evangelion rebuild films. The Blu-ray for this first film really does it justice on home video.

It's essentially, more or less, the same exact thing as the original show, but it's been streamlined and upgraded with better visuals. If you've seen the original and liked it, this is better, but if you're new to the series then good luck.

I loved the original TV series, and while I don't mind the changes here, it feels a bit too condensed. The animation is fantastic, though. I also wished all the Rebuild of Evangelion Blu Ray covers matched.

Being a big fan of the original Evangelion I wasn't expecting this movie to be as good but to my surprise it was a good take on the original. 1.1.1 is like a remix of the original but amplified.

    Retelling of a classic anime

I don't know if the Best But that I go to is a time machine or something, but I got this a week before it was even labeled to be released. This version isn't supposed to come out until March 9th, and today is the 2nd. Supposedly anyways, I dunno. The dvd version comes with 2 discs, the first contains the Evangelion 1.11 full-length feature. The second contains Rebuild of Evangelion 1.01, 2 different versions as told by Joseph-Maurice Ravel and Shiro Sagisu, as well as music videos, news flashes, previews, and trailers. The dvd also comes with a 20-page guidebook which contains artwork or the movie, character profiles, and notes. Anyways, this movie is a retelling of the animated series with a few twists thrown in. The first movie doesn't really change much from the first 6 episodes that it covers, but the sequel has a new character introduced that wasn't in the original series. Any who, the story is of a teenage boy, Shinji, sent by his father to Tokyo-3 where his father expects him to fight giant monsters called Angels with a giant robots called Evas. However, he is very reclusive and doesn't like confrontation. Therefore, throughout the series, he constantly battles within himself if whether or not what he's doing is really what he wants, or in fact what everyone expects him to do. I loved this movie and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys giant mecha battles.

A really pretty blu-ray anime title and a faithful

Well after all this time, Evangelion 1.11 came out last Tuesday. I have been waiting for this movie ever since October when I first discovered it and then I found out that the November Evangelion 1.01 release was a bad dvd release with problems, so I had to wait until Evangelion 1.11 came out so I waited about 5 months for this movie. During that time however I watched the whole original Neon Genesis Evangelion series, all the way till the end of End of Evangelion. I will not give anything away at the end but the ending to the Original Series was not what I hoped for but I was glad that Anno made End of Evangelion instead of leaving it to the even worse ending that the original TV series left off at. Ok, now moving back to Evangelion 1.11 release. Well I was so excited about this release that I pre-ordered my blu-ray copy in January and I received it this Wednesday and just watched it today which is Saturday. After watching it I was glad. This movie met with my expectations and was a faithful remake and it was just as I expected. It did not exceed my expectations because I knew what was coming from the movie and I did not see how they would be able to make the first 6 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion any more interesting because this movie was meant to introduce the characters so I knew they would not change anything major from the start. So the story is about the same as the original TV series except that they cut out what was unnecessary to the main plot like all of Shinji's classmates knowing that he was an Eva pilot or when Shinji camped out with Kensuke when he was returning home after he was trying to run away. So the story is very faithful to the first 6 episodes The animation is wonderful and looks really clean and the CG is the best that I have ever seen in an animated movie, especially the Evas and Angels look a lot better than they did in the original anime series. I played this movie off my Playstation 3 and I was watching it through my 13 year old TV that only projects movies and games in 480i but it still looked really good and in the future when I get an HDTV, it will probably look way better. The dub is really great too but I cannot comment on the audio yet because I do not have a stereo system and that one of the speakers on my TV is dead so I had to put my TV volume high while listening to the movie in mono. The only thing that I have to complain about this blu-ray is the packaging. I am not saying the packaging looks bad however, I actually really liked how the packaging looks, it is just physical how the case was. The case is pure cardboard and I though it would have a blu-ray case like all of my other blu-rays but everything about the case is made out of cardboard so that is my only complaint. So it is a good movie for Neon Genesis Evangelion fans like myself, but for people who did not watch the original anime may think there was not enough action in it and that it was too short. Well just wait until the other 3 movies to come out because this movie is not like Final Fantasy 7 Advent of Children, because it is rebuilding a story that actually makes sense instead of pointless action sequences. So this is a must have for Neon Genesis Evangelion fans and people new to the series, just watch this movie and wait for the rest because this is just an introduction to an epic story, just like the first Lord of the Rings movie.

    Rework of great mech anime

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Drama Length: 100 minutes "Tokyo-3 still stands after most of civilization was decimated in the Second Impact. Now the city endures the ceaseless onslaught of the strange and deadly Angels, bizarre creatures bent on eradicating the human race. To combat this strange and ruthless enemy, the government agency NERV constructs a fleet of towering humanoid machines - the Evas - and Shinji Ikari is called into action, reluctantly taking his place at the controls of Eva Unit 01. Living a life of loneliness and questioning his own existence, Shinji struggles to accept responsibility for mankind's battle for survival in this visually striking rebuild of one of the most important anime of all time. Shinji will fight the Angels alongside the only person who might understand his plight - Rei Ayanami, the elusive and frail pilot of Eva Unit 00. In this film experience not to be missed, Shinji and Rei will struggle to learn a simple truth: when carrying the burden of humanity's survival on your shoulders, you are not alone." Is it odd that I loved the Evangelion rebuild movies so much that I repurchased the Blu-ray versions after I finally got a Blu-ray player? Not at all! Evangelion 1.11 is a masterpiece that helps to condense and revamp the original Neon Genesis series. My only complaint with this movie is that the original opening, Cruel Angel's Thesis, is not included at all! It's one of the most epic intro themes in anime, in my opinion. If you've never seen any of Neon Genesis: Evangelion, then you're missing out on an amazing experience. The series is a roller-coaster of emotion as Shinji Ikari is an extremely emotionally-unstable 14 year old boy who has been tasked with saving the world. His mother is long dead and his father beckons him for the first time in 3 years only to tell him that he can pilot the giant Evangelion against the Angels or he can run away. The rebuild series doesn't quite pull the emotional strings near as much as the series itself did, but it still does a good job. The revamp for this series, especially on Blu-ray, is amazing. The movie looks absolutely stunning and the addition of high-quality 3D CGI makes for a thrilling experience. Have to love the beautifully rich colors and super smooth animation. The inclusion of Dolby 6.1 TrueHD surround sound just adds to the fun. If you don't have a surround system, even just a 2.1 sound bar, you're missing out. Evangelion 1.11 is a must-see for any anime fan. Own it, cherish it, love it! And don't forget to pick up 2.22 as well. 3.33 released in Japan earlier this year and I'm still waiting on Funimation to give a release date for it here in the States. May have to just import a copy as I want to see it so badly!

    A great introduction to Evangelion

As an avid anime watcher, I've seen many series. And there are many that I haven't been able to watch, as well. Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of those series. Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone retells the first six episodes of the series in summarized format, similar to Ghost in the Shell: SAC - The Laughing Man/Individual Eleven. As a complete stranger to the Evangelion franchise I was amazed by the retelling of this story about a young boy trying to find his place in a world of conflict. The animation is clean and stunning - better than what I expected, and the experience gets better with a digital surround sound setup. Speaking of sound, I bit my tongue when I selected the English dub track over the Japanese track... just expecting horrible voicing and acting all the way through. But ADV never ceases to amaze: I can tell you now that the English track went above and beyond my expectations. As another reviewer mentioned, the packaging is pretty, but is merely a rigid paper case instead of the traditional hard plastic cases you see for most Blu-Ray discs. Also, it seems to be lacking in the Extras department, with only a small booklet and trailers for other series. In spite of its very minor shortcomings, Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone is a great buy, and you'll be watching it over and over again. And if you are new to the series like I am, it will most definitely get you interested.

When I first picked this up I thought it would just be a line by line remake of the series, which I love and have been watching since its premier. To my enjoyment it actually enhanced the original storyline, making it far more exciting to watch. If you have never experienced an animated feature in blue-ray than this is where you want to start. The HD quality of the images is breathtakingly stunning. Jaw dropping would be an understatement. Can't wait to see the next installment.
