Long entertaining RPG

I knew little about the fallout series before I played this game. Since Fallout series was popular and this game received great reviews , I decided to give it a shot. After finishing it (60+ hrs w/o DLCs; 80+ hrs with all 5 DLCs), here is what I thought.
**********PROS.**********
LONG, JUST VERY LONG AND ENTERTAINING RPG: These days when most of the games (even RPGs) are 10hrs, it was a rejuvenating experience to play this long RPG. Just like other RPGs and games in general, while some elements were redundant, it has plenty of variety to offer as you progress in the game. Even after playing 50+ hrs (not even touching the awesome DLCs), there were always exciting and unexpected events in the game. Great job Bathesda, great job.
CHOICES, CHOICES, CHOICES: In this game, just like Mass Effect and Bioshock, you will have to make choices, lots and lots of them. And each choice you make will have major consequence on the outcome your missions and game all together. Again wonderful job. There will be time you will make a choice, finish the mission, get the results and out of curiosity replay the same mission again (assuming you saved before the mission), to see what outcome you might have gotten if you were to make a different choice.
KARMA METER: The choices you make will give you extremely positive to extremely negative karma. And different karma will change behavior of people of wasteland towards you allowing you to do different missions, unlock different achievements and different rewards. Depending on the choices you make, you will turn certain groups into your friends and others into enemies. Words simply can’t describe the experience. You have to play it get the feel for what I am saying.
OPEN WORLD: Yes you are free to roam in wasteland and go wherever you want to go. I personally loved it. While to progress in the story you have to go to specific places on the map. You can take whatever route you can take and complete whichever missions you like.
SURPRISES WHILE ROAMING IN OPEN WORLD: This was one of the strongest aspect of the game. While roaming in open world and exploring new areas and wastleland towns, you never know what you are going to encounter. While a lot of open world games have the same type of enemies and areas in open world, this game will introduce to plenty of varieties. Can’t tell more without spoiling.
RPG ELEMENT: As you defeat enemies, complete missions, solve conflicts and progress through game, you gain experience and level up. Leveling up will allow you to enhance your traits and unique abilities (for example, your aiming, your melee power, unique abilities like your conversation skills, atomic explosion when you are damaged enough etc.)
COMBAT MECHANICS: The game is First Person Shooter for most part, but it has unique combat mechanic. While playing FPS, you can freeze time so do speak and target specific enemies part for higher damage of decapitate them. This can make game very strategic as some enemies faster or bigger than others and sometime enemies can have devastating weapons. So if you use this time freezing and aiming trait well you can target specific body parts or their weapons and slow them down.
VARIETY IN ENEMIES: A lot of long games becoming boring in short time as they have the same enemies over and over again. But that is not the case for this game. As you explore the wastleland, you will come across plenty of different enemies ranging from thugs and little creatures to heavily armored soldiers and super mutants. LOVED IT JUST LOVED IT.
DECENT STORY: While it is not the strongest aspect of the game, it does have decent story with somewhat of a suspense and oh depending on the choices you make, story and ending changes.
DIALOGUE TREE AND GOOD VOICE ACTING: If you played Mass Effect than you know what I am referring to. While talking to different characters, you can choose what you want to tell them. You can be charismatic and friendly or you can be rude. You choose. Again what you choose affects the end result of the game. To me what was nice was these dialogue were well designed and voice acting of hundreds of people you talk to was much better than what I expected. This truly makes gaming experience more rewarding.
(IF YOU HAVE GOTY)
FIVE DLCS = 10+ MORE HOURS OF GAMEPLAY: The five DLCs will add to the main story of the game, but in addition it will take to you to a hidden slave town, alient space ship, pre-nuclear explosion war era and on a mystic island. I loved all five of them especially the island and story+ dlcs.
INCREASE LEVEL CAP TO 30. If you don’t have these dlcs, you can level up only to lv 20, but if you have these dlcs you can level up all the way up to lv 30. That means more traits, more choices and more unique powers.
******************CONS******************
GLITCHES: This is simply unacceptable. There are glitches in the game that can make you go crazy. For example for me I completed a mission and I didn’t get achievement unlocked for that particular mission. Fortunately for 360 version a lot of these are fixed by patches. Nevertheless you will still encounter some.
LEVEL CAP: I also didn’t like you can only level up 20 or 30 depending on which version you have. I wish they would at least let you level up to lv 50 and get all the traits possible.
****************CONCLUSION*****************
I truly wish they would have worked hard to fix the glitches, but contrary to those glitches this game has a lot to offer. 80+ hr of gameplay paid me back every single cent I spent to buy this game. I highly recommend this game to RPG and FPS lovers. If you can get GOTY (9.5/10), if not then at least give normal edition a shot (9/10).

Overall this game was great. Everyone I talked to said it was like Oblivion with guns. I found this to be somewhat true. The style of the game is very similar, however there were quite a few differences, most of them I thought were better in Oblivion. for instance. Repairing your equipment in Fallout you must have a duplicate of the exact same weapon in order to repair it yourself, even if you max your repair stat. my main problem with the game however in the leveling. the max level you get is level 20, which you can reach relatively quickly. After you max level the game get very boring. by then you probably have very good guns, and armor. More money (caps) then you will ever need. There is not much incentive to keep playing, because you won't get anything for completing the quests or killing the bad guys, no experience, and no equipment of any value.
This game was however very fun and exciting until you hit the leveling barrier which only takes about 30-40 hours max if you are constantly doing stuff

Fallout3 personally is a good solid game and especially for $20 I bought it full price and i still like it.The story is really good but what i like about fallout3 is how there are little quest or objectives that u can do and can do them instead of the story. You can just roam around do what ever u have the option of being good or evil [wich have there ups and downs] The only complaints i have are that it can get boreing, frustrating, long.Gameplay is good but ammo is scarce and it seems like your weapons are always breaking. It is just like oblivion accept 4 the concept. But overall Good Game

This game is great. The action is on par with some first person shooters like Halo and the graphics in the V.A.T.S system is similar to Gears of War. I love the physics engine that is built into this game, when you shoot a guy in the face, his head explodes into hundreds of chunks and land randomly everytime, no "canned" scenes in this game. You can even get a perk to make your kills more result in more gore then normal.
The story line is amazing. When I first made it into the world, I was lost. I was kind of annoyed that I spent $60 for the game. But as soon as I got to a town and started talking to people, the amount of stuff to do was crazy. Should I blow up the town? Should drag the refugee back to the slave owner? Should I even look for my dad? With endless possiblities available, I may try to beat this game a few times.
This game is alot similar to Oblivion then people let on, except for a few exceptions. The menu screen, map, rpg stats, and items are MUCH easier to navigate and understand then Oblivion. The pipboy is a great way to keep track of what is going on without making it too complecated. There are alot less load times as well. Many of my friends could not play Oblivion because of the load screens every 5 mins, but Fallout has alot less, and they seem to be quicker.
I can't even describe how real the world looks. Get a HD tv, HDMI cables, 5.1(or better) surround sound, and check it out for yourself. If you like exploring, you will love this game, because you can explore for days without finding a repeated area.

SPOILER!!!! I do like this game but like I said before once you get past the Bunker then it really plays JUST like Oblivion, I really wish they would have made it just a little different. I wanna call this game THE ELDER SCROLLS: OBLIVION: FALLOUT 3..... But that would be too long on the retail box,lol.. But seriously its nothing more than Oblivion set in the 70's and in a wasteland version of Washington D.c., I do like the premise of the storyline, it is interesting as every game Bethesda has ever made... BUT I wish they would think out side the box and come up with a new engine and a new way to tell there stories, I don't want 10 million games made the same way okay?? I really do like this game enough to buy it but I had to rent it first and its good I rented it. I do like this game and have it on PS3 and PC. The PC version has its perks (the tilde key u know the ~ key) The ps3 version needs to have a GOD mode because the bandits come out of thin air and shoot me dead in 2 seconds flat. I must get Sony to throw in blu-tooth keyboard support in game so it works just like the pc version.
Overall, if you like Oblivion You must get this game but its seriously a Deja Vu type of game, Oblivion part 2...

I'm not sure I'm savvy enough to say that the game deserved the award for Game of the Year. I certainly wouldn't argue with it, though. First of all the things that the game does, it does well. It's RPG, so don't expect something different. The length of the game is outstanding. You will be entertained for a long time. That's assuming you don't charge through the main story line and you experiment with what's available in the wasteland.
I do have criticism for some aspects of the game. It's gray. I mean REALLY gray. For God's sake, I get that it post nuclear apocaliptic, but does that mean that everything is dark? And, it will take some time to understand how to best manage your player. I really think the game could of assited more in describing what you need and how you need to do it. I found myself overloaded with weight for most of the game due to not understanding what might be important and what was obviously not.
However, all of the negative withstanding, the game is definitely worth your effort

First off, the bad....
The only bad...is that the game has glitches. It will occasionally freeze and a restart has to occur. This is simple to resolve though. All you have to do is save often so progress is not lost. One can ease any frustration by saving.
This game will take more than most games out there to complete. I love that it took me several days to complete. Most games can be played and done with in a matter of hours. Not this one!
Weapons galore..shooters..body dismembering...exploders..you name it! You can even obtain schematics to build your own!
You will face ugly creatures effected by radiation as well as big mean guys...all the while figuring out who needs to be destroyed....who needs to be conned...who needs to be used...etc.
I usually do not like RPG games but this one kicks tail! I am more into shooters so I had to get used to not always shooting. This game is great and I hope for another one...somehow.
HIGH REPLAY VALUE!!! Play a good karma guy..or girl.....then decide to be a bad karma person.....
ADDICTIVE!

Awesome game can't stop playing. It pulls you write in with a nice RPG/Shooter mix with an unbelievable amount of places to explore and items to find. Graphics are great, play is smooth. You can replay several times creating different scenarios results each time. You can play male, female, good, bad or both. The map is expansive and if you are new to shooters game play can be adjusted during play from very easy, easy, normal, hard or difficult. Once you have been to a location as long as your not in harms way you can teleport to another. You can even get your own apartment fairly quick in the game to store all your stuff. The only problem I have had is precision looking at all the possible pick up items (they are everywhere). Once my character was stuck between a railing and a wall. So I had to start over at the save. Other than that no problems just addicting fun. I can't wait until fallout 4.

I have read the previous reviews, and found that many of them are correct. Fallout 3 is very much basically "Oblivion with guns." But then again it is not. It does follow suit with the 2 previous versions. The graphics are VERY appealing, game play is very good. straight forward and good to go. Apparently the PS3 version is supposed to have glitches, but mine has not. I have over 20 hours of playing on it and have not had any lock ups or freezes or anything else that was reported. Perhaps it is because I have the nYko intercooler on my PS3. The map is quite big, and provides you with a lot more then just the "main story." Overall I find the game to be quite fun, grabbing, and entertaining.
I half heartedly expect Bethesda to release an add-on disk for this game to increase the playability, similar to what they did with Oblivion.

This is an amazing game and has such potential. There are stunning visuals and very addicting game play. The store sucks you in, but at the end you will be left disappointed. There is potential to salvage the game, however unless you own the xbox 360 version, you won't have a chance to see it.

This game got some mixed reviews. From all the reviews you should take that it is a great game overall. Some reviews get too nitpicky. Yes the game plays like oblivion with guns, but why is that bad? Obilivion was a great game. The VATS system makes the combat, without it this game would be considerably less fun. Maybe they needed something like this in oblivion acutally. The storyline so far has been intrigueing and the depth is there. Great game overall, I'm eager to keep playing it.

bethesda is one of those companies that since Morrowind, makes me think of games with a higher set of standards than most game companies. they put alot of detail into their worlds (morrowind, oblivion, fallout 3) and make games that actually make you feel part of it. the graphics are amazing and the detail is awe inspiring. very few times does a game company take pride in their creations like this company. i will admit i was as impressed with oblivion as i was with morrowind but it was still a great game to say the least, and fallout 3 follows in the tradition of what to expect.
fallout 3 is one of few RPG games on the new consoles unfortunatly.
i do have a few gripes about the PS3 version not getting the expansions and have yet to find a reason why, and there could be more weopons in the game (which the expansions added but not on ps3). those are the only issues i have with the ps3 version, but hopefully if they do not come out for download they will make a game of the year edition like oblivion and morrowind.
all and all this game is very good, and their are plently of choises to make and you can go anywhere you want. the game gives you the freedom to make your character, assign your skills, and other customization options. all in all it is a great game to add to your collection, if you havent played it i would recommend buying this game, however as a warning, the game does feature gore and limbs and heads do come off when you shoot them so if you are reading this as a parent, you may want to keep that in mind, also there are some curse words in the game as well, the f word to be precise.

First of all...if you are not ready to devote some major game time into Fallout 3, then don't by it...it is huge and the story evolves over many main and side missions.
The graphics and game play are brilliant. I have ran into a few sections where I experienced glitches...but few. Fallout 3 offers some unique gameplay, mixing FPS and RPG in an open environment.
If you liked Oblivion, then this is the next gen step and a must buy. Personally I am not a big RPG fan, but the gore, guns and game play all add up to a fun time.
I suggest renting the game first to give it a try.

I never played the first two Fallout games so this review is based solely on my experience with Fallout 3. It is an amazing game. I just recently purchased a PS3 and it was my first next-gen console. So I decided that along with the console itself I would use my tax refund to buy a bunch of the best rated games for it. I was hooked from the start. First of all I love the post-apocalyptic setting of this rpg. I can't say that using a post-nuclear world is the most unique idea but when compared to most rpg's and their high fantasy settings this is pretty singular. You start with your character literally as soon as he is born. After growing into a young man you leave the confines of the only home that you have ever known to search for your father who mysteriously left. The world is just outside the ruin of Washington, D.C. and their are several warring factions trying to control what's left of humanity. The game is a lot like most rpg's in that you build up xp and trade that in for upgrades to weapons and abilities. The unique battling method called VATS adds something to the battles that others don't have in that you can target specific body parts. This comes in handy since sometimes it is easier to incapacitate than to kill outright. By targeting specific body parts you can cripple an enemy or force them to drop their weapon.
One of the drawbacks to any rpg is that you have a lot of looting and sometimes tedious exploring to do. However, the good aspects of Fallout 3 outweigh these negative aspects.

this game is great because you have this huge map to go adventure plus the multiple add ons that have been created. even after you been the story line there still is numerous missions to be completed. and your arsonal is huge there are multiple weapons in the game and you can create your own.
