It's pretty open, you can go anywhere you like. There is fast travel once you've been to a location to speed things up. You can also build settlements and craft.

If you liked fallout 3, then you will love Fallout 4. A new story line, new open map, new characters & more. They have improved the graphics and added much more customization of weapons & crafting.

I was really looking forward to Fallout 4 after especially enjoying Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. Despite not a big upgrade in terms of graphics compared to the previous games, I found the game still highly enjoyable and fun to play. The main storyline is compelling and the numerous sidequests are fun to play and experience. And I love the new settlement building system added to Fallout 4.

You can follow the story-lines, one or many, in whatever order you choose. The game really is completely different depending on how you build up your character. The expanse of it is truly amazing. Or, you can just wander around, check things out, till you wander too far and get mauled by something way too powerful for someone who's just wandering around in the wasteland.
The depth of the crafting/building system alone is mind-boggling. Go to youtube and see some of the videos of buildings that people have created. Just amazing.
Many, many hours of discovery and playtime. You can keep going till you become so bad that you can do anything and go anywhere, or you get bored of doing ALL the missions (there are a TON) and just turn on god-mode so you can see everything.

This game is now one of my favorites and is definitely the best to be released this year! The world is gritty and immersive, the story is engaging and the game play is great! I will admit the controls can be clunky, especially with a game controller, but overall I love the game!

great game. if you liked fallout 3, or fallout new vagas, you should like this one. i really liked the companion system in this game. great story, and enough content to keep you busy for weeks, if not months. it does have some bugs, but rarely do they effect game play.

Great return to a classic, open world feels immersive, lots of content and replay ability. Graphics are top notch, story and factions hooked me. Only complaint is the minor bugs and glitches, also the companions feel too shallow, not enough depth or impact. Hopefully the DLCS wow us like in previous Fallouts.

Fallout is a post apocalyptic sandbox game with emphasis on leveling up skills, crafting and resource management. As the player grows stronger and has access to more skills the enemies become harder, even including legendary enemies that drop rare powerful items. The map is huge and there's so much to explore and find that you can easily lose yourself in this game and put in 100 hours before even getting halfway through the story. Combat is easy to get a grasp on thanks to the VATS system, but you don't have to use it if you want to just run and gun it. The game looks pretty good, it's not top notch, but there's so much in this game and so much to interact with you won't notice. The gameplay and story are really solid. I'd recommend it.

From the moment you start your journey at home with your wife, you are emotionally invested. If you're an old fan of the series, then this applies even more so because it's another aspect of the wasteland you need to understand. The game engine makes for a beautiful world. And even though I do not have the FX-9000 series CPU and high end GPU (I have an 8350 and R9-280) I am still able to game at about 30FPS at base clocks. I got another 5 frames with a small GPU tweak. I haven't explored much, but from what i've done and seen, the game is a lot cleaner than Fallout 3 was upon release. The mod community has also come out swinging; there is no shortage of extras and mods. Still no texture packs though. Get the game.

Having been a fan of the fallout series in all it's iterations since the original in 1997 I was excited when a new chapter was announced and I've not been let down! Following the same open world environment and rules established with Fallout 3 the gameplay will feel familiar to those who've played that previous title but is easy enough to pick up for the newcomer. The story starts off different than previous titles and without ruining the surprise, throws you right into a compelling story that will have you wanting to get to the bottom of what's going on. I'll leave it to you to find out more, but know that this is another exciting chapter in the Fallout universe!

Good game, bad bindings

First the good: Fun to play, runs good, looks good. Six core AMD, Win 10, GTX 660, only 4 gig of RAM but runs fine (specs say min 8, must have been a bundle sale when I built this machine). Easy to get immersed in the story...
...which leads me to the bad: Terrible key binding. I'm taken out of the game when I'm always looking for tab and esc and enter and "e". And "e" is the "take" key which you hit like 1000 times an hour and you can't change it. I downloaded a third-party program that lets me change some bindings which made it only slightly better.
I've found the workshops to be frustrating and unintuitive but maybe I'll get used to them as time goes on.
All in all I like this game a lot and foresee the backlash as I neglect my family for Fallout 4!

I was a little concerned about how Fallout 4 would turn out. Fallout New Vegas is one of my favorite games, but it is developed by Obsidian, while 3 and 4 were developed by Bethesda. 3 was just clunkier in comparison to NV- the dialogue was fairly bad, they had a very limited cast of voice actors, and the story was very simplistic. New Vegas had a very interesting story, with great dialogue, and a wide variety of characters and voice actors. Thankfully, Bethesda turned it up a notch (though I will say NV is still written better).
Compared to the last gen games, a decent amount has changed. It's not anything that flies in your face like crazy, but the refined combat and more polished gameplay are definite, noticeable improvements. The gunplay has more of a Bioshock vibe—it doesn't play like Call of Duty, but you're also not standing still by an enemy shooting at them, which is what would tend to happen in 3 and NV.
The inclusion of a settlement system adds a whole new layer to the game. It gives meaning to all the random junk lying around in buildings, and is a fun little side task, while also being a huge time sink if you really get into it. The only real issue with it is that they never really explain how to do a lot of basic workshop functions. Thankfully, plenty of people have written guides which are easily found with a quick Google search.
The only things I disliked in this game are:
-the dialouge system is simplified. You only ever get 4 dialouge options, and dialogue just isn't as interesting as in NV. However, their implementation of the dialogue wheel is better than how Bioware did Dragon Age 2. At least the summaries match up more with the actual dialogue.
-the stat and perk systems have been merged and simplified. It locks a lot of skills behind level caps that had not been previously tied to level in past games. It's definitely easier for newcomers though, so I can somewhat understand.
-the writing could be better. Overall it's better than 3, but still a step down from New Vegas. I am glad that they took note of NVs multiple factions, rather than just having a good and an evil faction like in 3.

very fun game and runs well with amd fx 8350 nvidia gtx 780 sli setup in 2k hd resolution hitting 50 to 60 fps average... power armor mechanics are completely changed and tricky to manage at first but obviously gets easier as you progress... the rest of the game feels very familiar if you played fallout 3 and new vegas but with a updated interface and totally new story line.. crafting is much easier than I expected and good reason to start looting everything you see.. definitely worth the money

Have had the game since release and playing non-stop without issue. No crashes and no glaring bugs that I have noticed. I purchase games every year for many years now and this is probably the first one that it has met the hype and expectations. Some people might be frustrated by the lack of 'instructions' but I really enjoy having to figure it out as I go for replay value as even after I finish it I already know I'll go back and play it through all over making new choices.

I have now been playing this game for over 40 hours and feel like I'm just getting into the middle of the storyline. There is just so much content to explore outside of the main storyline, and it is done so fluidly you forget you're side questing. The graphics and dialog are well done, and there have been a few times where the game has glitched requiring a reload of the last saved game bit nothing major.

Fallout 4 has an exceptional game world and excellent graphics. It's a challenge and that's what I was hoping for with it. It is worth the price. Contrary to 3rd party websites it will run well on a Skylake desktop I3 or better. I'm running a I3 6300 and a GTX 960 4GB card with 8GB of ram. it runs smoothly and at max settings. It does need 4 threads - so be careful as to chips you run it with.

I love this game. It can be a bit tedious when building so many settlements, but it can all be ignored. The gameplay is fun, and doesn't require vats constantly. The story got me right in the feels, as well. This game is definitely one to buy instead of rent, as you'd need a lot of time to play it if you're going to do anything with settlements and side quests.

Fallout 4 suprised me with a storyline unlike any other in the Fallout series. The new settlement and weapon building system is creative, and adds so many things I couldn't do in do in any other Fallout game. The companion system has had me liking Fallout 4 even more, because of how many they are, how they act, and why they join you.

Its Fallout. You know what you're getting. This time, the gunplay is MUCH improved and feels smooth. The story and sidequests are of typical Bethesda quality, and overlall the game looks great.
If just counting entertainment value, this game is a STEAL. hundreds of hours of gameplay for 60 dollars, you can't beat that.

I'm 40+ hours in and really enjoying this game. If you like crafting and settlement building, they have added what you need. Don't want to craft or build? You don't have to. My GFX 680 runs the game quite well, with many setting at Ultra at 1920x1200. If you like FO3 and FO-NV, you will likely enjoy FO4 as well.
