Customers love the extensive gameplay, abundant content, and enjoyable crafting system in Fantasy Life. Many appreciate the variety offered by the numerous classes and find the game to be fun and engaging. However, some find the story and dialogue to be underwhelming and repetitive aspects detract from the overall experience for some players. The game's difficulty may also be a factor for some.

My wife liked for the most part. Her only complaints were the story being slow and anticlimactic. The RPG mechanics were good and battles were fun.

I really enjoy this game. The characters are cute. I don't care too much for the story however it is still pretty fun after the story ends, you can quest, level up your life classes, craft your weapons make clothes and armor and play co-op with friends!
I do recommend getting the origin DLC, it unlocks alot more for character customizatin and more places to go.

It's like a mini MMO

If you've ever wanted to play a real MMO (WoW, Final Fantasy 11/14, etc.) but never had the time to dedicate, or the money for a monthly subscription, this will fill that void completely. It's like Animal Crossing and Final Fantasy had a baby and it has more fun stuff to do than Animal Crossing, yet less depth than Final Fantasy. Even if you just like RPGs in general, this is awesome. You literally get to play as all the things are completely capable of supporting yourself. For example, if you want to be an awesome paladin and are running out of money to purchase better weapons, sure you could do some side stuff and grind your way to that weapon. OR, you could switch to the blacksmith "life" and make one yourself. Ran out of money for supplies to make equipment? NO WORRIES! Switch to the miner "life" and go gather some stuff, then switch back to the blacksmith to make a better pickaxe so you get gather better stuff. Then switch back to the blacksmith, make awesome stuff which you will then use as a paladin and go kill that stupid dragon that's been keeping you from getting to lake that has that rare, expensive fish that you really want to cook so you can have it ready for a big fight that's about to come up since it has that special buff that would really help out you and your friends (did I mention the game has co-op?). This game is pretty meta.
That was sort of a long-winded explanation, but it gets the point across. There are 12 classes: 4 "battle" classes (Paladin, Mercenary, Hunter, Wizard). 3 "gathering" classes (Miner, Woodcutter, Angler). and 5 "job/combination" classes (Alchemist, Carpenter, Blacksmith, Cook, Tailor). After the typical set of intro missions, you can freely switch between all the classes and do whatever you want while doing each mission. Gaining levels allows you to put stat points in whatever stat you want (stats have standard uses such as attack/defense and class specific boosts) then all the typical stuff where you monitor stats for whatever class you like the most bla bla bla. The best part is your ability to support each class with the others and not be worried about some weakness later on in the game because one life is "better" than the other.
TL:DR - Play how you want, get lost in the fact that you can do so much and then do more by switching classes. Enjoy the fact that you can have MMO-style fun without the subscription or time sink (although you could probably put a lot of hours in this one). There is co-op, although I should warn you that it does not progress the story. It's mostly used for getting assistance in fights or having friends give you items that you would otherwise have trouble obtaining.
You have a 3DS and like JRPGs or even Western/action RPGS, go get this. It is quite casual though, so if you are masochistic and like games that punish you for blinking, you will hate this. It's also quite...cute, so if you are a manly man and have an issue with someone seeing you play something that doesn't look like a Micheal Bay movie, then this also isn't for you. You can still buy it and hide in the closet while you play though...

It's like a cross between Animal Crossing and Rune Factory. Simple combat gameplay, lots of collecting and crafting, and you can play all of the different combat, gathering, and crafting classes on one character!

Before playing this game, I had tried Animal Crossing, but got bored pretty quickly due to the lack of substance the game provides for the world and its characters. When I played Fantasy Life, however, I felt engaged in both the RPG elements and life sim elements it provides. If you ever wanted RPG Animal Crossing, this is the game for you.
