Not an instant classic, but still a great game

I certainly enjoyed the game enough to put a solid 60 hours into it, but given its pedigree it's tough to not compare it to previous entries. It has enough callbacks to previous entries but it overall feels like there's a handful of missed opportunities in the storytelling, pace, and setting that could have made the game far more engrossing. A common complaint for the FF series has always been far too many cutscenes and too much exposition, but I feel they took that criticism to the opposite extreme in that the game has you doing tasks that aren't readily apparent why, or doesn't give enough narrative heft to major plot points. The game also strays from the series theme of having a diverse cast of characters... the four bros you start with are all the party you're ever going to have and it seems like some major corners were cut with other characters that would have been playable at some point. In terms of gameplay, it really plays well and is very rarely, if ever, frustrating. On the downside there's definitely a lack of intuition about magic in general and the crafting system. It's explained well enough, but there's very little indication about the tons of items you find throughout the world for which would be useful and which aren't, and dealing with the decision of "do I sell this now to buy better weapons or hold onto it because it might be useful later" is fairly annoying and is very easy to turn into a hoarder of junk while your gil stock dwindles. Overall I still come away fairly impressed if not disappointed by the missed opportunities to tell a more enthralling story. Not that it should have been changed, but that I don't think it would have taken much to make the world more engrossing and the narrative more impactful.

Great interface, smooth good looking battles, great cutscenes, nice side quests. Good added content filling in the "I wonder what happened to those guys when I was alone" storyline. It ties into the anime and movie perfectly. Two things I didn't like Unless you find and read all the astronomy books a big part of the plot seems muddled. You can just read it online since it's more backstory to the plot and doesn't have spoilers but makes some of the reveals more "wooooooooah" Second is that when you restart the game you cant reset your level, I would like to have been able to start w/ my skills but not my level.

As a Final Fantasy fan, I've been waiting for this game's release since 2006 when it was announced at E3 then known as " XIII Versus". The 10 year wait was worth it! Its everything an Role playing game enthusiasts loves and hates! Exploration and plenty of side quests, abillities and techniques, and of course an epic story that takes place in the middle of the plot. The game is amazing, the bosses are as hard as you want them to be if you don't level up. Which makes it more challenging to try going further in the story with no preparation. But again, its your choice! The only recommendation I would make for those who want to dwell on the story is to rent the movie Final Fantasy Kingsglaive first. The game tells you the need to know settings for your characters adventure, but the film helps bring more detail to the antagonists strenght and Noctis's father role in everything that leads up to the events in the game.

Good action game but story lite

Summary: If you enjoy action based combat and are okay with a somewhat cliche story you will throughly enjoy this game. Pros: Final Fantasy XV has a good action oriented battle system. The car travel fits really well and along with the ability to play music adds to the immersion. The characters are fairly likeable and there is some development over the course of the game. All of the different elements of the game do come together to support a bunch of dudes going on a road trip. MP3 player while walking, fishing, camping, hunting, auto piloting the car etc. Cons The game does have a few game breaking bugs but they aren't very common and some have been patched. There are some minor graphical issues at times mostly dealing with low draw distance. The story isn't the best and has plenty of plot holes. The game goes from open world to linear in the last few chapters.

It has been 10 years that final fantasy fanatics have been waiting for this game to come out, and boy oh boy was the wait worth it. The day I got, I played for a summation of 90 hours, and I can't say I've spent my time any better anywhere else. I highly recommend this game to anyone with even an inklage of an interest in JRPGs. It's fun. It's exciting. It's challenging. And the story is truly breathtaking. Square Enix is the gift that keeps on giving.

I pre-ordered this deluxe version a month before it was released. When the release date came around I got there as soon as I could. However apparently 4pm the day of is not soon enough as they no longer had a copy for me. I ended up having to "return" the deluxe version I never actually got and "upgrade" to the special edition just so I could still play it that night. I ended up selling the game to Gamestop and purchasing a left over copy of the deluxe they had on Friday. I did get the season pass and beanie out of it, but I won't be pre-ordering special versions from best buy again unless I can be there as soon as their doors open up.

So I have been a FinalFantasy fan so some it. I had very high expectations for XV, so I might be a little skewed in my review. All together it's great. New fight system takes a little time and with the option of wait mode it slows it done. Story is good so far (haven't beaten the game yet). One the I'm having a hard time with is the game seem very linear. Maybe it's been awhile, but I remember more open word for FF game. A friend of mine has beat it and says the good stuff come after the first play through. Not a fan of beat the game to replay and play again to get better stuff. Ex specially when it's a RPG. We shall see what's in store for me. Overall I think it's great and a better product then square unix has released in a while.

So I've got a bit of time with the game now and it's great. I like the characters and the open world is amazing. The battle system takes a couple hours to really get used to but once you give the battle system a chance it grows on you. “A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers" comes up when starting the game and is a true statement. I love how in small moments throughout the game it pays tribute to the past Final Fantasy games. Example: After a fight Prompto sometimes will sing the Final Fantasy VII battle end music. All in all this is a great addition and is worth picking up.

Loved all the Final Fantasy games growing up. I was a bit disappointed with FF13 additions and never really got into 14. Had some reservations about the beta but from the start of the game it was apparent that all the kinks were solved. Fluid and FUN! Fish for hours, side quest or main quest, it was all great.

This final fantasy is fun, with a strong story, and fresher feeling combat system than before. Graphics are beautiful and the characters very likeable. Definitely worth the money and having the Blu-ray movie included could be said to make it a bargain.

Great game, quick to pick up and play even with the change in combat style(it plays more like Kingdom Hearts now) really good story so far and I love the graphics, they really seem to push the system to the next level.

This was a great installment of Final Fantasy. As it says at the beginning a Final Fantasy for Fans and Newcomers, which is true. You get dumped into this massive open world to run around and quest or you can proceed with the story. T The true achievement here is the combat system. Let's give credit to SquareEnix for creating a real-time combat system that makes sense to the Final Fantasy world.

If you're a hardcore FF fan I recommend renting if possible. The new style feels fresh and yet familiar. Combat mechanics that feel as if you're playing a kingdom hearts game with the FF lore behind it. It really is a different style of FF game and one that should be checked out

I love old school JRPGs. playing them going on 34 years now. but I don't have the time i used too. But this is the exception. Nice change from the slow turn based to an action style combat and yet still feeling very FF. Give it a shot you won't be sorry.

One of the best games to come out in a long time. so fun to play does take a little getting used to but it is a very fun game not meant for kids under 14 due to the adult nature of the game. If you are looking for a fun and enjoyable game this is it.

One of my favorite Final Fantasy games ever. It takes some cues from Western RPGs and mixes it with Final Fantasy's winning formula. Can't wait for the dlc. The movie is also a great addition and enhances the story tremendously.

This game is awesome. So much to do it's insane. I've played for 50+ hours and have only completed around 4 or 5 storyline missions. Action RPG but it feels like FF all the way.
