Customers admire Final Fantasy XVI's impressive gameplay, captivating story reminiscent of Game of Thrones, and amazing music. The steelbook is also a highlight for many collectors. While some found the side quests and open world aspects less engaging, and noted some performance issues, the overall reception is overwhelmingly positive.

If you are looking for that old school turn based type RPG that the FF series was so well known for you wont find that here. Though that is not a surpise after the last couple entries in the series have edged closer to the action/adventure genre. This game completly embraces a more Devil May Cry or God of War fighting system. Even adding quick time events into the mix. Another big change is the gear. Something that was huge in min/maxing your character before has become just finding materials from quests and killing monsters to craft or upgrade your existing gear. Also gone is the huge open world to explore. You have a world map you click on destinations to move from one to the next. Also there been a whole lot of reason to go off the very linear path searching for treasure as if you do find any it is usually just crafting items that the monsters drop. There is a skill tree that you can unlock to suit your own playstyle and items that can make the combat much easier for you if you just want to see the story play out. So all that said, you may wonder why I still scored it 4 stars. First off, it is a truely gorgeous game. Both the cutscenes and the actual gameplay. Square made the right call making this a next gen exclusive. Second, the story. It is dark high fantasy that is up there with Game of Thrones. So if you enjoyed that you will probably love it. And the voice acting is top notch, Also there is a lot of nostalgia going on here. Seeing Chocobos and Moogles and lots of returning monsters reimagined in such detail is awesome. As is tradition in FF games the music is a masterpiece. And the biggest reason is the combat just feels good. Fighting as Summons (Eikons in the game) is unique as well as each one controls differently and almost feels like its own game. I definitly recommend this game to anyone who likes story, graphics, FF lore, action adventure and are even old school RPG fans that are open minded to a new type of Final Fantasy playstyle.

Final Fantasy goes nuclear-action

I love Final Fantasy, but I will try to be unbiased.
The game plays like what I would think Game of Thrones would be if it were an action-fantasy RPG. The story is epic, incredible, and it really draws you into the world of Valisthea. The characters are all great, villains and heroes alike, along with the grade-A voice acting. The world-building is legitimate, you get a sense of the grandness of the different kingdoms and their dominants.
The gameplay is unique for a mainline Final Fantasy game, which I have mixed feelings about. I would have preferred a balance between action and turn-based system, kind of like Final Fantasy 7 Remake or FF15. The game is pretty much an action RPG, and it can be a bit intense for my casual self, but I somehow managed to beat it (who'd have thought?). But my poor thumbs :(
THE BATTLES. Dear lord, I was at the edge of my seat before, during, and after a boss fight. 80% of the budget probably went into them. Wow. It was definitely an adrenaline rush, for sure. The fight sequences are very fun, and the bosses aren't so hard that you will die repeatedly, but still provide enough of a challenge.
The music is beautiful, flows seamlessly with every change in the story. There's a jukebox in-game you can use to play different songs from throughout the game. The sound is superb, and if you have a subwoofer in your sound system you will definitely appreciate it!
I am now in my 2nd playthrough to get the platinum trophy, and it isn't even a chore for me; I am barely skipping any of the story sequences. That's how much I loved this game. About the story sequences, they go on for about 11 hours, so keep that in mind.
Basically, this game is a Final Fantasy game but it is also not a Final Fantasy game. It might deviate greatly for older gamers, and won't be your cuppa, but if you give it a chance it might just grow on you, like it did me.

Has some cool moments and standout music. However, it really should have just been a full-fledged action game, as the RPG elements are completely inconsequential at best, and very tedious at their worst.
The story moves very slowly, and cutscenes are largely Clive and crew simply remarking how bad things have gotten. Party members have very little screen presence, and you hardly notice them fighting next to you.
Most people will advise to skip the side quests because of how badly they're designed. What they don't tell you is the main story forces you to follow similar quest chains that have no plot impact whatsoever.
The combat had promise early on, and some boss fights are a joy to learn how to dodge perfectly. Otherwise, many elite enemies just feel like your smacking the same old sponge.
The big Eikon monster fights are allegedly the showstoppers, but they are simply interactive cutscenes with brief bits of combo mashing a giant limb in between. They try to be dramatic between each stage of the fight, but it's pretty much impossible to lose these. By the 3rd or 4th one, it started to feel a bit silly when the same old big opera music started playing again.
The performance on PS5 is subpar for an otherwise okay looking game. Some environments are stunning but it's otherwise a bit dated looking.
I'm definitely not a downer on FF, and while I like some more than others, I have never walked away from one that I wouldn't recommend to others to at least try or wait for a sale. FFXVI has changed that.

Great game! Close to being a masterpiece.
Still, even with my issues, it is the best FF game since FF10. I want this team to come back. FF is back!

Amazing JRPG. It’s Final Fantasy with a twist. I’d say mix of FF with Devil May Cry combat and it’s really fun. Story is engaging, voice acting is superb, graphics very pretty. Best FF game as of the past decade. Only critique is that it is FILLED with boring MMO like side quests that take a long time. They slow down the game and even the main quests have boring moments where you have to do these fetch like tasks. Other than that, excellent game.
A lot of review bombs on here due to a lot of people not receiving their extra preorder steelbook. I’d be mad too! I got it however. I picked it up in person.

The game is phenomenal, story is really good, gameplay/combat is fluidly great.
Boss Battles. ARE INCREDIBLE!
Ton of different enemys.
Exploration is quite good, instead of open world, its open zones and become wider maps as u progress thru the story.
Starting on Normal Difficulty, completing all quests and other side stuff i beat the game in 105hrs, and thats taking my time while also enjoying scenerys and awesome views.
Music is so good.
And yes, theres NG+ and along w that you unlock the hardest difficulty!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Beginning with the moment you start a new game, to the end credits rolling, Final Fantasy 16 keeps you engaged and wanting more. The enthralling narrative, over-the-top action sequences harking to memories of God of War or Bayonetta, and cast of characters each with their own magnetic personality and development, the newest entry in this legendary franchise is worthy of its title. Emphasis was placed squarely on creating a story and musical score that challenges the classics from the golden era and does so in grand fashion.

Package came in great conditions. Got it same day as launch and couldn't be happier.
The game has become my choice for GOTY!! Beautiful music and story that will play with your heartstrings at almost every moment. Astonishing graphics and overall a well rounded game.
Some might say it has too many cinematics, but if I recall correctly... Most Final Fantasy games always had a lot of reading or cinematics throughout its series lifespan. I say go for it! Buy it and enjoy it for what it is.

What an amazing game. From the actual hands on gameplay to the story. i’m only 30 hours in but this is one of my favorite games i’ve played this year. just needs some more patches and updates to smooth out some kinks with resolution and frame rate issues.
as for the actual physical copy and experience of ordering through best buy, definitely will continue to get physical copies through best buy cause the process was so smooth.

If you Pre-ordered this a while ago you would receive an extra steelbook. Many ordered last minute and did not get it. This is a good game but the performance mode needs work. Too many frame drops so I opted for the 30fps mode. The performance mode is very distracting because of the 10+ fps drop. The cutscenes are only at 30fps. The combat is great. I enjoy it very much. They did a real good job on the game even though some rpg elements may be missing. I believe this game is intended to get a newer generation interested with this iconic series.

Its a pretty great game but of course its not perfect but it does a great at being a Dynamic Action RPG/ Dark Fantasy World Square Enix put together, the graphics, story and GamePlay ( combat ) with the immense Eikon battles is a ( Big muah) chief kiss!! Ive been enjoying it! I am like 20 hours into final fantasy 16 just been taking my time and loving every moment and looking forward to the end and any new game+ or DLC that may come down the line!! I say buy it if you're thinking about it but not totally sure, i believe you'll have a great time with this game!! You wont know unless you try it! Watching other people play aint the same, you have to play it yourself!!! Have fun my brothers and sisters ❤️

Amazing game, Square Enix managed to accomplish everything they were trying to in FF15 in this game! The characters, the story, the gameplay, and combat system are all amazing. I've been having such a hard time sitting down and playing story games of late because they're so time consuming. But, I was able to sit through this game fully and be engrossed and enjoy it!
The only critiques I have are the steel book was rather disappointing. 15's steel book contained a special secondary cd of the Kings Glaive movie and this steel book had nothing but a little map thingy. Mayhaps this is a sign of the economy or something though and not the fault of Square Enix.

I've played all of the Final Fantasy mainline games and this is is a different take on the franchise. The combat throughout the game is amazing and jawdropping when it comes to animations. The story is more mature and well written compared to the previous entry. I preordered the deluxe edition and i was worried that it wont arrive on the release day but BestBuy did amazing on delivering it the same day! Aside from the on time delivery, the package was in great condition. Perfect for physical copies collectors like me. Im trusting BestBuy on making preorders on my next video game purchases.

It is a departure from the traditional turn base or any sort of atb (actime time battle system). It is completely an action game with a little bit of rpg elements ,with basic stats and alittle bit of gear customization.but the main focus is the story which if the world or any of th main characters coonect woth you can hit you with tons of emotion and some of the best action scenes and spectal that you will see in the industry. The eikon ability’s is also where this game shines. Allowing for multiple combinations to choose from while your fighting enemys and you can switch to your customized abilitys all in real time with the flip of the trigger that is bery smooth transition. So if you dont compare it to another final fantasy”which you should not because every entry in this franches is very different and uique in thier own way”.So it should be judges only by its own merits alone, then as stand alone final fantasy for myslef i find it very enjoyable and a fun chmage of pace, i do enjoy the old ways and i personally like more of a turn based combat system but the story and action keep it entertaining and i have had alot of genuine fun just going through it without knowing whats coming next. If you are looking for something different its worth a try and see if it tickles your fancy.

Patience is a virtue. I was not hopeful in getting the free steelbook when I read others didn't. but luckily it was a smooth pickup and my code was emailed within minutes. The game is not turn based and is an action RPG, it has been said by Yoshi-P and devs for months leading up to release. The immersion you get from the battle music is amazing, Soken is a legend.

Great Game.
Well it doesn’t feel like a traditional final fantasy.
But it has an interesting story behind and the characters and gameplay is really good.
For traditional ff players may take a bit but give it a bit of time and I will grow on you.
Ps I have special edition are empty now a days. Not much value for the extra price.

Final Fantasy 16 has met all my expectations and then some! This feels like a classic game harkening back to the PS2 days, but polished and shiny on the next gen hardware. The story is gripping and the combat is fun with a bit of depth. I would recommend this game even for anyone who hasn't played the series before.

Haven't finished the game yet, but I'm 30+ he's into it. So fat it's amazing. If you're a Debil May Cry fan, you'll feel right at home with the combat. If you're a FInal Fantasy fan, you'll feel right at home with the world and story. The battles are mind blowing. Highly recommend for any ok me to play.
