I was a big fan of FE: Awakening, and though I thought the story was fine, was excited to hear about a lot of the changes being implemented into the three releases of FE: Fates (Birthright, Conquest, Revelations). Since I had played Awakening and thought I had a good grasp of the mechanics, I opted for Conquest, the 'harder' of the two retail games. The story, an area they supposedly worked hard to improve on... sucks. It's really awful, with the "choice" of which side to play unwisely locked to the cart, meaning if you bought Conquest, you're stuck with Conquest even if you find yourself leaning toward the story of Birthright. It's kind of a shame, a decision made, I suspect, to keep the cost of the cartridge down; the whole point of giving the players a choice is to allow them to choose, something you had to do at the point of purchase, rather than as the game unfolds, which is what the designers intended. The evil characters in this game are as one-dimensional as it gets, and though the core gameplay is still solid, I just don't care about the evil King, or understand why my character, someone who is supposedly a good person, finds any redeeming qualities in him. Maybe I should've gone with Birthright after all.

If you've played any of the past Fire Emblem games, you know what to expect. This edition is the harder version of the two new physical Fire Emblem releases, so I recommend playing it second. Great fun awaits!

This is one of the best tactics RPG series made, and Conquest restores it to its better days after Shadow Dragon and Awakening. This entry is for the "veterans" of the series with greater difficulty and varied map win conditions which is refreshing after the other games had the same win conditions every map. The story is good, and the character interactions are well done, except for one or two. If you want the easier introduction to Fire Emblem, pick Birthright, but if you want a challenge, then Conquest is for you!

I loved Awakening, and was curious to see how Fates would follow up. The stand out characters, dynamic story and gameplay augmentations help this one outshine Awakening in every aspect, in my opinion.

What can I say about this game that hasn't already been said? Another excellent strategy RPG where your decisions hold weight. If you're new to the series, Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright will be more your speed. If you're a series veteran, the punishing nature of Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest will be right up your alley.

I don't know how they keep making these games better than the last. When compared to Awakening, there's a greater degree of customization around characters in general - levels are now notably shared across every class a character can occupy, making careful micromanagement of each character's skills vital. Where mechanics have been removed, such as weapon durability, it feels to be for the sake of reducing tedium, with nothing of worth lost. Conquest lives up to that legacy of the Fire Emblem series.

The gameplay was fun and as expected for a fire emblem game. The problem was everything else. The story was meh at best in all three versions. The voice acting wasn't good. Then there was all the lines of dialogue and features changed from the Japanese version. Only buy this is you like fire emblem gameplay.
