Everything about this range feels sturdy. It’s stripped down; there’s no clock or control panel. It’s a back to the basics, solid gas range that does what it’s supposed to do extremely well. One of the first things I did was to test the oven temp at 450°. Most range manufacturers will tell you that it can vary up to 30° higher or lower as it cycles through. This Fisher & Paykel range was dead on 450° most of the time, and the peak variation was in the single digits. Since I replaced my old range due to uncontrollably inconsistent temps, this accuracy is very welcome!! I also enjoy that it comes with TWO full extension ball bearing racks, can fit commercial full-size sheet pans, and that any burner in use will glow red - a great way to notice if you left a burner or the oven on. The oven control has two knobs - one for the bake/broil/convection setting and one for temp control. The temp control glows white until temp is reached, and then it switches to red. ❤️ Clean up is easy since the black porcelain cooktop is easy to clean and polish, and since it’s black it hides grease well. A note for installing in older homes - this range is designed to sit flush against the wall, so the wall must be protected with non-combustible materials. The gas hookup may also need to be modified. The back of the range is flat with no room to accommodate a gas valve (most modern ranges are becoming this way). The solution is to recess the valve into the wall at a location that will prevent the hose from getting pinched between the range and the wall once installed. I included before and after pics of the modifications our gas valve needed. Note: photos show a mdf panel on the floor - this was needed for our install because our counters are taller than standard and the platform changes the height between floor and counters to 36”.
