    Wish I bought something else

I've been wearing activity trackers for about eight years now and I've had some really good ones during that time, but they all eventually wear out or some of the features stop working. Completely understandable for a device that gets worn 24/7. I've had Fitbit in the past and have been happy with their performance, so I thought it would be a good choice again. Well, I've been nothing but disappointed in this particular model. Let me just say that in comparison to it's predecessors, the step tracking seems to be more accurate. That being said, how this device interacts with third party fitness apps is a huge step backward. I like to use several different third party apps to track my fitness and participate in the many challenges that they offer. My last fitness tracker (not a Fitbit), interacted beautifully with them all, and without any further interaction on my part, registered all the specs needed for the challenges that I joined. The Alta registers absolutely nothing in any challenge. When I contacted the apps I use to see if I was doing something wrong, they told me that Fitbit doesn't sync the right information for this to work. And while my steps show up on my third party apps website, nothing is tracked as a "workout". The second thing I'm really unhappy about is the "silent alarm" feature. On all my previous trackers (even Fitbit), the silent alarm has no trouble waking me up every morning. The Alta has a vibration mechanism that's so weak, I barely ever feel it. On top of that, it only tries twice to wake you, then it stops. Each of the two vibration sessions happen for only a few seconds, so it's not persistent enough to actually wake me (or, I suspect anyone else either). So it seems the only thing it's good at, is tracking steps and syncing with it's own app, which by the way, is nothing to write home about. In the end, I guess I purchased a really expensive pedometer, and nothing more. I can't understand why Fitbit is so popular, it has a lot of catching up to do in my opinion, to be able to call itself an activity tracker. It's far and away the most disappointing device I've ever used.

Alta is not as good as it appears

This is my second Fitbit tracker. I switched to Garmin Vivosmart after having a Fitbit One and now to the Fitbit Alta. I was excited to see the Alta when it was launched because I thought it had similar features as the Vivosmart (except waterproof). It is comfortable to wear and light. The functionality of it however is terrible. Sometimes when you tap the screen it won't come on or you have to tap it really hard. When you receive a notification on your phone you have about 1 second to see it on the Alta and you can flip your wrist to come back up, but that is only right after it has buzzed. There are no stored notifications. It does not show an accurate number of steps. It rounds up. I still like the Fitbit app better than the Garmin app, but I would not recommend buying an Alta if you are looking for something even slightly more than a light wrist activity tracker. The extra features on the Alta don't work well enough to be considered.

The Fitbit charge was garbage, as it tore up constantly. I had to keep replacing it. I was told by a Best Buy rep. that the charge is being phased out and replaced with the Alta. My complaint with the Alta, the notifications. when I receive call or text message notifications on the Alta it is a major delay. The notifications are not received until after the missed call. For texts, it is a hit or miss. Yes, I have updated and reset both devises, my phone and Alta, but same results. If this wasn't a $20 difference for me, I would have left this on the shelf. I'm sure there are other products out now that has similar features as Fit bit. I would tell someone about this product but also advise to research other products. Otherwise than this, it captures all other data.

I used to own a jawbone UP3 until it stopped syncing to my iPhone. Try this since I did not want a big bulky wrist band on my wrist when I slept at night. What I liked - the option to set you time format (yep, that's about it) What I didn't like - the "clasp" to attach it to your wrist (to hard to press the clasp together since your fingers need to fit UNDER the band (stupid design). Their app didn't do a good job on listing menu items from common eateries like Panera or Starbucks. And the rubber wrist band irritated my wrist. I know Fitbit has pretty much cornered the market but for the money I found the size, functionality and band of the UP much better.

I loved my third Fit-it and did utilize all of the options available e.g. steps, calories burned, sleep patterns, etc. The charging was easy with the battery lasting a long period of time. Unfortunately... due to the design of the band... One afternoon I realized the fitbit was gone from my wrist and and disappeared... I am a active teacher and must say that I am not physically abusive, but... this is now my second unit that I have experienced the same issue with the band. I will not purchase a fourth unit.

    Sensitivity to radiation

I originally purchased the HR Fitbit...had such a sensitivity to the radiation (burned my skin) so I exchanged it for this one. I was hoping that not having the LED light like the HR would reduce the sensitivity I was having. I can only wear it for 4-6 hours max and I start feeling the irritation approximately 30 minutes to an hour after I begin to wear it. I just use it a couple of times a week, not how I wanted to use it. Disappointing for sure! I wish products with this type technology were safer to use.

I recently bought this for my wife who wanted to get into the fitness wearable technology venue, as added motivation in her workout routine. The functions of this are severely limited, and the heartbeat and steps functions are completely inaccurate! She would go to cross-fit, work out for an hour, and the thing had her heart rate even the whole time. On top of that, it would fail to count some of her steps, and also would add false steps when she would simply swing her arm. My advice? Buy an I-Watch/Samsung Watch.

I like the tracker, but the color is way off!

I really like the tracker a lot. The steps are accurate, the texts and call feature is nice, but the thing that I was really bummed about is the color! I ordered the blue for the color. I am a huge fan of navy blue. All of the pictures on best buy, amazon, and even Fitbit show the band to be a dark navy blue. When I opened mine, the band is actually a much lighter royal blue color. I was mad that I spent $130 on this thing and didn't even get the color that was pictured. Fitbit dropped the ball on this one.

I heard so many good things about the Fitbit and received one for mother's day. I upgraded the one I received to the Alta. I thought it would be easier to see, receive messages from my cell and I could change bands, that was the best part. The band that comes with the Alta is hard to put on your wrist and will come off if it isn't properly attached. The screen is hard to see especially outdoors. If anything upgrade to the Fitbit HR. I would not recommend this product to my friends or family.

I've been using the Alta for about a week now and I plan on returning it. It doesn't accurately track your sleep like it claims (you must log your sleep manually) and the touch screen is not very responsive. It sometimes takes for 4 or 5 "taps" before the screen comes on. Also disappointed with battery life. I can get about 2 days out of it but I was expecting 4 or 5 days based on some other models I looked at. I plan on exchanging for the charge HR instead.

I bought it because a coworker recommended it and I had her test it to see if it would count steps if she was just moving her arm. It didn't and that is what sold me on the product. However, after buying it I noticed that it counts steps while I am brushing my teeth and driving. Not sure why and I don't think that the fitbit team is either. It does remind me to get up and walk every hour which is great because I have a desk job.

I bought one for me and my wife but for some reason my wife's Fitbit connected via Bluetooth but not mine. After reading reviews on other people having the same problem I decided to reinstall the software on iOS. This seemed to solve the problem. The problem with the device is it is not accurate at all at tracking steps. It is not responsive when I tap to wake it unless I keep tapping it. I wore the Alta only once since purchasing it.

I was given a Microsoft Band - but thought I would 'update' the technology... while the Alta fit nicely on my wrist - i couldn't see anything whilst walking (in the sunlight) and the 'tapping' feature for rotating data on the screen didn't work very well. Returned and am using the Micro Band. The charge life is alot better with the Alta... hoping the Microsoft Band '3' might have improved chare life!

It looks very nice. The one thing I do not like is that the battery runs out too quick. I THOUGHT, the battery life was at least a week with this model, but if you have all the reminders set, the battery life is low. I turned off most reminders and now the battery lasts. I would rather the reminders be on though. So I put them back on and charge every night now.

This was a gift for my mother who wanted to keep track of her steps. She really liked it while it worked but had it less than a year before it started acting up. Half the time it wouldn't come on and then one day, didn't come back on at all.

Complaint: cost of replacement chargers is high and finding a charger is sometimes impossible. How is it possible that all major phone designers have one type of charger for their products, while Fitbit has a different charger for every single device. Most people will lose their charger at some point. Finding the Alta charger is impossible in stores.

After purchasing and wearing the band for one day I ended up returning it. I disliked that the side of the unit was silver. I felt as though it did not blend well with clothing. The main piece of the unit also seemed very heavy and bothered me at night. It also only displayed part of a text message rather than the entire thing. I was disappointed.

Fitbit itself works really well. I like that you can read messages from it and it have a small but functional screen. The charger however is like a clip and three weeks after getting it I went to charge it, squeezed the chip to open it so I can latch it onto my Fitbit and it completely broke apart. Super cheap!

I am very disappointed with my new alta. I received the notice that i did 10,000 steps. Later it dropped to 7,000 steps. I know I did well over 10,000.It also is not registering stairs. My fitbit one that I used prior is a lot more accurate. I wanted to switch to a wristband. Not a fan, taking back

The wristband alone was so difficult to connect onto my wrist. Also, the "tap the screen" feature would have been nice if it worked. Found myself poking it forcefully with my finger only to get false reports even though I went through the whole set up and customizing process. Took it back
