To set the stage, I'm not an athlete. I don't need heart rate monitoring, gps, or altitude. I just want something to motivate me to move more. And I found that in the Fitbit Alta. It has a clock function, so I don't need to wear a separate watch (yeah, I'm 'old', I want a watch on my wrist, not have to dig out my phone), which is GREAT! The Alta tracks your steps, minutes of activity, and automatically recognizes certain exercises, such as walking, running, and some others that I haven't tried yet. It also has this great little feature called Move Reminders. You can have it remind you to move a little every hour. It detects when you haven't taken at least 250 steps in one hour, and will remind you at 10 til the hour with these little motivation phrases. If you get up and start moving, it will come back again to congratulate you (again with cute phrases) on hitting your 250 steps. The reminder days/times can be customized so it isn't bugging you a 10pm when you're getting ready for bed. They say the Alta isn't necessarily waterproof, but the manual says it can handle the occasional splashes from whatever you may be doing. Sounds like they just don't advise you immersing it. Water resistance was a must for me. I also like that Fitbit ties in with several nutrition apps, such as My Fitness Pal, to automatically enter in your exercise for the day. So, if you're searching for an 'average persons' fitness tracker, search no further.

This is my first exercise gadget and it’s working! My family and I can have a little friendly competition to see who completes the most steps. But I’ve found that I’m much more competitive against myself, trying to beat step count or miles or how many days of the week I engage in at least 15 minutes of exercise at a time. I LOVE the hourly prompt that reminds me to get up 10 min before the end of the hour if I haven’t completed 250 steps that hour. I have a desk job and can get very task focused so the reminder forces me to stop working for a couple of minutes and move. I also love the positive reinforcement when I’ve reached my goal. You have the ability to set your own targets but you’re strongly motivated to increase them in order to beat them. For someone who’s very active it may not be as helpful but for anyone looking for motivation to start a healthy lifestyle I highly recommend. I have the Alta without the HR. My mother likes being able to see her heart rate but I’m satisfied without it. I can tell when my heart rate is elevated and that’s sufficient for me. The HR model does provide more details about your sleep pattern but this one provides sufficient info for me. It’s unobtrusive on the wrist and comfortable. It also has a subtle vibration alarm if you want to set it. I also LOVE that I can receive texts and notification of a phone call (you can turn that off if the long text conversations start to bug you. It can get a little annoying to feel the constant vibration on your wrist lol.) Battery life is excellent and lasts pretty much the whole week.

I have owned a Fitbit Surge (wayyy too big), Fitbit Charge HR (totally solid, still a little bigger than I'd like, and currently being lent to my sister to get her hooked) before my purchase of the Alta. I knew when I first saw them advertised that I'd want one based upon looks alone. It is very important to not e that this little tracker really IS lovely and stylish. To some that WILL matter - especially to those that may not need the HR info (I never used mine), or altimeter. I love the new 250 step reminders per hour (that you can set/customize) - it actually is a great feature that does encourage you to move a bit more. That is really the only new item that isn't on the Surge or Charge HR. As I said there is no GPS option, no bluetooth music control, no altimeter (floor climbing tracker), and no HR monitor. I haven't tested the notifications for texts or calls feature - I tend to keep that off as I have my phone with me most of the time and have no desire to be bombarded OR drain the battery. OH the battery on this thing is AMAZING. Minimum 5 days - sometimes 6-7. It's great. My only real con is that the tap feature can be hit or miss. The quick view, like with the Charge HR can be hit or miss. But, I chalk those up to small annoyances. I'm looking forward to getting another band to switch out when the impulse hits, but as I write this I've only used the teal color. NOTE about the Large size. I used the Large size on the Charge Hr and this Fitbit Alta. It seems to me with the slimmer profile that it is possible I could have used the small size and still been fine. I've only 2 holes showing with the Large after wrapping it all of the way around - so much to spare! I hope that makes sense.

Stylish and accurate, many band change options. I asked for Fit Bit Alta as a Birthday present. I've had 3 other Fit Bit trackers, the One, and 2 other HR's. All of them worked great and did what I wanted but, the sleeve for the One ripped over time, and I ended up just throwing it in my pocket; and I don't know if I was getting credit for all my steps and workouts. I really liked my HR's, they told me my heart rate but, unless you are a real fitness buff, that's something you don't necessarily watch. My new Fit Bit Alta, is my favorite. It tells me everything I want, and the new items added are a battery status and a static activity tracker. I like The battery status because with the other Fit Bits, you didn't necessarily know how much power you had left without syncing with your phone or computer. So a lot of times, I ran out of juice in the middle of the day. The static activity tracker will tell you how many minutes you where actively engaged during the day, and not just steps. With the other Fit Bits, you had to log into your account and add extra activities you did during the day to get credit. Now, the best Alta feature of all is the ability to switch bands. I now have other colored bands to match what I'm wearing, and I've purchased a black and a brown leather band for casual wear, and gold and a silver bangle bracelet which allows me to dress my Alta up for business and going out to dinner. Great job with the Fit Bit Alta you guys! I can't rave about it enough and I get all kinds of compliments on my different bands. Thank You.

Pros: --Helps track steps, active minutes, and estimated calories burned. --Compatible with every fitness app I've used or tried. --keeps a charge for a long time --mine is black, and black goes with everything. --includes a clock with date and day display, which can either be vertical or horizontal based on your preferences --Normally I'm quite lazy, but it chews me out if I sit too long and cheers me on when I meet my goals. Cons: --When you turn your arm up to look at the watch, it doesn't always light up, so you have to tap it. Not always convenient when in meetings and you're trying to be discreet while checking the time. --Weirdly, when I'm sleeping the time display lights up every time I twitch. As a light sleeper, who lives in the country where it's very dark, this causes me to wake up. --It is supposed to track your sleep, if you wear it to bed, but since it wakes me up all the time, I can't trust results. --Understandably, it isn't 100% reliable when tracking steps. Some times it doesn't track all my steps, and sometimes I get 200 steps while in my recliner while watching TV. (I, of course, pretend I really was working that hard. --I have an in-between sized wrist. The small was too snug. The large is *almost* too loose.

The FirBit Alta is a sleek, stylish tracker, that integrates will with your mobile devices and FitBit's online service. The Alta tracks steps and sleep automatically. It can also auto-sense activity, though to get additional information (GPS map, distance, etc.) you should initiate activity tracking in your mobile device. It also contains a feature that nags you to get up and move at least 250 steps in every hour during a time period you set. A nice touch is that the Alta has multiple display settings that support showing information of interest in either vertical or horizontal orientations. Additionally, it can show notifications (phone, text, etc.) which I thought might be distracting but has actually quite nice. To be honest, I've taken to wearing this as a replacement for a watch without the complexity/expense of a Smart Watch. This one's a real winner if you ask me. The only down side, the screen seems to scratch/scuff easily so invest in a screen protector before you that the Alta out of the box.

The device is nicely styled and comfortable and easy to wear. The band is really easy to remove and reinstall for cleaning or to change bands. It does a great job of sensing when I am running or cycling and logging that activity. The sand blasted finish on the sides of the device is a bit delicate - I bumped the band against an adjacent watch and it marked the sand blasted area immediately and permanently. I am hoping that they eventually will have a device that I can wear while swimming and that will track that activity automatically. This device, and the rest of the current Fitbit lineup, will not tolerate immersion in water if you want it to survive. The extra feature I really like is the way it vibrates when I get a call on my phone and the way it vibrates and shows the initial words of text messages when they are received. These minimal smart watch functions are surprisingly useful, and I never would have known this if I hadn't gotten this device. The fact that it does not have an altimeter does not create an issue for me, because I don't run stairs as a fitness activity.

I had a Fitbit Flex and loved the idea of actually being able to see my stats on my wrist without having to connect to a device. I'm not bothered by the lack of the heart rate monitor because I know how to accurately monitor my heart rate on my own. I love the fact that it is customizable, however, I DO NOT recommend ordering replacement bands from Amazon, Ebay, etc. The bands are thinner and flimsy and the slightest bump will cause your Fitbit to fall off. Thank God for the waterproof features. I had one of those cheap, cute bands on and bumped my arm getting out of my car...hours later, I realized my Fitbit was missing. Looked out the window and saw it peeking from a huge puddle in the driveway. We happened to have a torrential downpour that day. I ran out and grabbed it and dried it off. That was half a day immersed in water. I would think it's safe to say that it is waterproof enough for me! Buy one! You won't be disappointed!

    Makes Fitness Tracking Easy

So...tracks how many steps I take (and reminds me to get up and move hourly); tracks my calorie and liquid consumption (with help: I actually have to input my intake); tracks how long I sleep, and to a degree monitors my sleep quality; knows when I'm "active," and keeps track of how many minutes I'm active. Not bad! IF you're motivated to start moving in the direction of fitness, the Alta is a useful tool; simple to use, and fairly unobtrusive. It requires a little effort -- like said, entering your liquid and caloric consumption, but really: if you're not willing to do that, you probably aren't going to be willing to get active in the first place. Only complaint I have is that sometimes it forgets to sync -- I assume a connectivity issue. Minor problem, though, and I would TOTALLY get one again.

This is an incredible little gadget! It fits perfectly and although it is not waterproof, it's okay! Although it has no heart rate monitor, I think if you are aiming for style, ease of use, simplicity, and day to day activity monitoring you should be good with this model. Unlike the other Alta's, this special edition (black/gold) is even more gorgeous and stylish! I get so many compliments while at work, with friends, or out at night. Yes I wear it to clubs because it just looks like an ordinary bracelet! I'm a guy, but I think it would look equally as great on a woman. The flick of the wrist feature is great, screen is always view-able even in direct sunlight. The fitbit app is great and links up to the Alta without a problem on my Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

I bought this Fitbit Alta for my mother. She has been trying to up her activity level and track progress as well as changing her diet. Geek Squad set it up to her phone and it can wirelessly connect and update all your stats to the app. She says it's very light and comfortable so since then she's been using it constantly. It tracks her steps, distance, calories burned, alerts you to phone messaging and monitors you sleeping patterns. This was enough to impress me for the price but then I was blown away to find out that in the app it helps you set goals and has a bar code scanner and search to track and record the calories you're eating through the day. This was a great purchase and a 2 year replacement warranty covering theft or accidents was on $30. Great deal and a great gift.

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy wearing a Fitbit, but I wanted to give it a try to help me make small changes in my daily activity level. The soothing vibration reminders are great to remind me to move after sitting at a desk too long. The unique feature of text messages appearing on the screen has been helpful when my phone was out of reach, my hands full, or just too busy. The caller ID also pops up on the Fitbit screen. I have had it a few months now and I have enjoyed tracking my sleep as well. The product seems to be durable and the deep plum color blends in with a lot of my clothing. I have a lot of friends using the app who challenge me. It's a great way to increase physical activity through being mindful throughout the entire day of taking a few extra steps here or there.

I researched the Fitbit Alta prior to purchasing it. I previously had the Flex, and, though I did like the Flex, it was having some charging issues. The Flex would not stay in place in the adapter to ensure proper contact with the USB adapter pins. The Alta has not had that issue. The charger is a clip apparatus with 3 pins that lock into place (not strongly but enough to securely hold) on the Alta contacts. Also, the functions are more advanced than the Flex's.I like being able to read the actual stat numbers for steps and calories. The Alta also shows a digital time along with cell phone notifications. For work I usually keep my personal cell phone on silent, so this has helped keep me on top of calls when they come through. Overall, I like this Alta a lot better than my Flex.

I waited for the Alta to come out, and it was worth the wait. The options for your style of exercise, or actual style are endless. Very intuitive, easy setup, it makes it easy to attain your goals, and encourages you along the way. One of the best aspects, is being able to change the band, you can have metal, leather, silicone in about a hundred different colors. This is a quality product, very durable, the charge lasts almost a week, depending on how often you obsess over your steps, and you will. The Alta charges fast, about 20 minutes for a full charge. The Bluetooth capability does not seem to alter battery life on either the Alta or my phone. This Fitbit is amazing, the Alta makes working out fun, and easy for friends to join in with challenges as well.

I had the flex for 5 months to try to get a little more active. Once I saw the upgraded features of the Alta, I jumped on it! I wasn't wearing my watch anymore, since I didn't want so much stuff on my wrist. Now I can see the time on my Alta. I also love being able to see texts & calls, which is a great help when carrying your phone in a pocket or purse. Finally, having the readout for steps, miles, calories, active minutes & battery life means that you don't have to keep checking the app to see your status. There are tons of really cute(and inexpensive) bands available on the internet that you can change out, so this new accessory goes with everything. Since having my Alta, my 'activity level' has increased by nearly 20% and I'm on my way to better health!

I read many reviews on many sites before settling on buying a Fitbit Alta. I did not want something large and clunky, but I wanted something more than just 4 flashing lights (Flex). I didn't care much about heart rate and the wrist is very inaccurate for heart rate so I didn't feel it was worth the money. The alta met all of my needs plus allowed me to use it as a watch when needed. I would caution that constant updates between the Alta and the fitbit app on your smartphone will kill your battery. Also, pay close attention to the size of the band. I don't consider myself to have a large man's wrist but I bought the large band and it allowed me a little movement. Anything less would not have fit.

To start off, I'm not the most active person. Getting this Fitbit has helped me tremendously. The Alta is smaller than the blaze so if you don't wear a watch all the time this is perfect to start with. My favorite feature is that it alerts you if you've been sitting around too long (within an adjustable timeframe even) do you can get up and move. The app is really well designed as well. The one drawback I can think of is that it isn't as responsive as I'd like it to be and most times it takes more than a few taps to get the face to turn on and by then you tap it too many times and it skips over the time so you have to cycle through all options. Regardless, it's a neat little tracker/watch and I'd definitely buy it again.

Upgraded my 12 yr old son to the Alta when his Flex broke due to a defect. He loves it! He even sleeps with it on which is a bonus because I can get a look at how well he slept. Comfortable, durable, good battery life, easy to charge, he can take it on/off himself, the bands are interchangeable & it's loaded with features that make it even better. The display is nice and bright but won't blind you, the silent alarm wakes you up gradually, call/text message alters, and he was super pleased that it gave him a watch with the date and time also. Fitbit knows their stuff! I'm very pleased with their products. With my son and I both having a Fitbit we can challenge each other and motivate each other to get moving together.

Fitbit has become my new best frend. I love the features that measure steps taken, miles walked, calories burned, minutes of cardio, and my sleep patterns. Logging my food intake keeps me honest, and it helps me to make better choices. It gives me incentive to drink more water and walk throughout the day to meet my 250 steps per hour for 9 hours a day. I chose this Alta version, because the slender shape was more in keeping with my idea of what looked best, but I had to sacrifice having the Fitbit count flights of stairs climbed. Further, I see that I can buy other accessories and wear the unit in a necklace or shinier bracelet. I love the Fitbit, and I hardly recommend it to anyone.

I bought this for my daughter and she wears it all the time. She loves to get the notifications and compete with others in their total steps. It keeps her active and reminds her when to get moving again. She wears it playing soccer and running and has no issues from wear and tear. The battery lasts about 6 or 7 days which is amazing because I have the charge HR which will last about 4 days if I turn off the Bluetooth on my phone. I like her having the Alta because it helps us monitor her sleep patterns and how well she sleeps. Fun and useful.
