For Honor is a Honor to Play

For Honor is at its best, it is that game. As beautiful and brutal as one could hope. Sadly, those moments are few and far between. While For Honor was supposed to bring the thrill of the duel to the surface, it feels more tucked away and obscured by poorly conceived game modes, obnoxious grinding, and technical glitches than it ever did in the deepest recesses of the Darkroot Garden

After having this game for a little over a week, I’ve had many different opinions on the game. I purchased the gold edition, which includes the game, deluxe edition and season pass. First off, I wasn’t too thrilled about the campaign. There wasn’t much to offer in the single player, as Ubisoft didn’t even attempt to make a decent campaign. But, all the hype was meant for the multiplayer. And yes, the online multiplayer is pretty good honestly in the general sense. There’s 5 game modes total, Duel (1v1), Brawl (2v2), Skirmish (4v4), Elimination (4v4), and Dominion (4v4). But, Duel, Brawl, and Elimination are all the same, just with different team sizes. It’s basically a deathmatch with best of 5 rounds. And Skirmish isn’t the most popular game mode, as there’s no true objective. It’s just who’s better at double and triple teaming a single player. And Dominion is a mode where your objective is to control zones A, B, and C. Which is one of the more popular game modes. So really there’s only Dominion, Deathmatch (1v1, 2v2, 4v4) and Skirmish (not that entertaining). I’m just hoping they add more game modes playable in online mode. In larger deathmatch games, like 4v4, there really isn’t much strategy, as players will just 1v2 or even 1v3. There is a way to defend yourself in this insane unfairness, but 95% of the time you’ll lose if you’re battling against multiple warriors at once. On a side note, as you are playing online, you’re also fighting in a Faction War. It’s a war of the factions, where they’re fighting to control the most amount of territories. There are 3 factions, Knights, Samurai and Vikings. When you first start playing the game, you must choose from the 3. These factions are equally balanced and it is up to you what faction you would like to be fighting for. Within each faction are 4 heroes. So, 12 heroes total. There will be 6 new heroes added to the game later in the year, 2 more per faction. The thing is, if you choose Knights for example, you can still play as the Samurai in online matches. As you play multiplayer, you’ll receive war assets, in which you’ll deploy on enemy (attack) or friendly (defend) territories. You receive more assets if you’re playing as a hero of your faction. Like I said before, I would like them to add more online modes, or else this game may get dry pretty quickly. If you don’t have other friends that are playing this game, you may get bored of this game due to lack of content. But playing online with friends and just having a good time is what is going to make this game live on. If you’re looking for a multiplayer game to play with friends, and not interested in a single player mode (or both), then this is the game to play. But, if you’re one of those people that is more interested in a well made campaign, I recommend passing up on this one.

I can't say enough about For Honor, it was everything I expected and more! In depth customization, excellent maps and definitely the best fighting system I've ever played! Graphics are really good too! The campaign could've been longer maybe they add to it down the road also if you don't have Internet then I would not get this game because majority is online. If you are like me and enjoy a war game with swords instead of guns then this is the game for you!

This game is really fun if you're willing to put in time to push past the steep learning curve. Otherwise you're going to get stomp. Outside of the lackluster single player campaign, the multi-player is where it's at. Right now the servers are the biggest issue that keep it from being a 5 in my book. Guaranteed to get countless hours from it.

It has a fun campaign undercarriage, and it can be intense game play. It tries something new, and succeeds more than it fails. Great graphics with enough multi-players. Right now, For Honor is a unique enough experience and could be the start of a great new franchise.

As expected from a Ubisoft game, the servers leave much to be desired. However, For Honor is one of the most fun games they've released this generation. If you enjoy multiplayer melee combat games like Chivalry or Mount and Blade, it's worth checking out.

Combat is fun and challenging yet rewarding. Player community is actually great and funny. Theres no hate between the three factions, just playful animosity.

I say fighter/strategy, because it's a little of both! It's a really good fighter, but not a button smasher at the same time. If you do mash buttons, you won't last long. There's also some strategy involved, and the different styles of play required for each fighter reflects that! All in all, I think the games a lot of fun to play, and very engaging!

One of the best strategic games that I've played so far. This game makes you think about what you need to do next in order to conquer your enemies. Story mode is great as well, 3 main chapters with sub-chapters under that. Awesome sub-factions within the three main factions. This is the game you need!

Fans of medieval warfare will not be disappointed. The game's mechanics take some time to get the hang of, but that's easily done through the campaign. Mastering characters takes more time in multiplayer, but the grind has plenty of achievements to reward you with in the process.

For Honor is an interesting mix of Dynasty Warriors mixed with Mortal Kombat / Injustice. The graphics are excellent (especially on the PS Pro). The multiplayer is more robust than the single player, but realistically there's something for everyone here.

If you ever wanted to play as a Samurai, Knight, or Viking then this is your chance. It is also a bit gory but that is part of what makes the game fun and realistic. It is a bit difficult to pick up at first, but with practice it surely makes perfect.

Takes a while to get used to the controls. The tutorial is very helpful. Recommend adding this to your game collection. Ubisoft made Assassin's creed. The game feels as if they put just as much attention into For Honor that they have on their other games.

I'm bad at fighting games but this one I'm managing to do well. It's like mortal kombat in third person and intense! I was able to find a character to fit my play style and the campaign was great to learn how to play.

Don't get this if you expect to just hack and slash your way through the fights. This is more of a technical fighting game but once you learn the nuances of the fighting system it gets really fun and rewarding.
