Beautiful Watch Even Better w/Android Wear 2.0

Like many people I became much more fond of Android smart watches with the release and upgrade to Android Wear 2.0. The Fossil Q 2nd generation smart watches have always caught my eye because of their exceptional design, and initially I considered ordering the Q Wander smart watch in Gold, that is until I saw both the Wander and Marshall in Navy Blue side by side in a Best Buy Store. The Marshall is definitely has a more masculine appeal, until a sales person informed me that the Wander is typically listed as a womans watch. I love the blue metal, and wish it were a tad lighter since the black ring around screen of all Fossil smartwatches causes the time piece to appear almost black in dimly lit rooms. The leather wristband compliments the watch well, although it is thick and somewhat stiff. It takes some wear to get the watch band to loosen up. Fossil doesn’t add any hardware features to differentiate the Q Marshall from its competitors still the area where Fossil outshines competitors is in design. The 45mm watchface doesn’t overwhelm even a wearer with a small wrist, such as myself, and the watch isn’t overly thick. I was able to purchase Fossil’s blue leather watch band and a 22mm blue Milanese band and both look great , arguably better than the band that is sold with the watch. There are 2 reasons why I gave this watch a 4 out of 5 star review 1) because of the lower than average screen resolution which can cause text on many watchfaces to appear a bit blurry or fuzzy and the watchface could get a notch or two brighter for outdoor viewing. The other area where the Marshall is lacking is in the speaker area. I assumed that the speaker would be fully functional for music playback, a feature that I don’t use frequently with my other watches but love having the option and ability to listen to a tune quickly when more traditional methods for music playback aren’t available. I may have some more exploring to do with regard to using the built in speaker, even still I would recommend friends and family to buy Fossils offerings since their watches are finely made, have great battery life and Fossil hasn’t delayed with the Android updates. All in all, for the price of purchase you’re getting a great, fashionable smart watch.

A Mixed Bag

Let me begin by stating that I am a watch guy. I love watches. I have a collection that includes Rolexes, Omegas, Fortis, Oris, Rado, and Ball to name a few. I also own a number of smartwatches. When I got the Fossil at a sale price, I decided to snap it up. After using it for awhile, I find myself faced with mixed feelings about it.
Here is the good.
* Beautiful design - the Q Marshal Gen 2 is simply stunning in appearance. It has that understated appearance that makes you smile when you wear it.
* The Fossil Watch Faces - Fossil has to be complimented on the job that they have done with the faces. Some like the P51 are wonderful in that they look like a real watch face - there is even a window with a spinning rotor.
* It always tells the time. Apple and Samsung Gear watches blank out to save power. This means hitting the crown button to see the time. The Fossil always shows the time - to save power, you see the time but there is a black and white outline of the time so that you always know the time.
Now for the bad and they are big:
* The Flat Tire face gets to you. The watch has the classic flat tire shape which means there is a flattening at the base of the watch face that destroys a great watch. You expect a round watch face in a round case.
* Short Battery Life - With Samsung now offering 2-3 days on one charge, it is criminal to have a watch like this that can last less than a day. I travel a great deal internationally and this is not a watch that I would consider for such a trips.
As I said, a mixed bag. However, it is the best of the Android watch bred.

The battery have a short life

The reason to give it only 4 stars, besides the short life of the battery is the fact that since I buy it, wasn’t possible to configure it with my iPhone, even when the App was downloaded.

I love the watch, a smartwatch that doesn't look like one. Smart but fashionable, easy to use and variety of bands to choose from. Battery life could be better but still not bad.

When my Huawei Watch vibrator motor went out none of my local stores had one in stock for me to get through my Geek Squad protection, so I went for this one. At first I wasn't too happy about it, but it has grown on me. I really prefer the style more than my Huawei (though I wish I had a silver one), and the transflective screen is great while I'm outside. The battery life isn't as good, but the speaker and voice recognition is better. Overall, a really solid watch that will hopefully get better with Wear 2.0

connectivity with Android Wear v2 is practically perfect. tons of watch faces to download from the app store. the device is stylish and has the look of a classic "dumb" watch. navigation is a bit clumsy at first but once you get the hang of it, it's not the best compared to others but it's certainly better than a vast number of competitors

I've tried the Asus Zenwatch 3, the Moto 360 gen 1, LG Watch Style, and the Samsung Gear S2. This watch seems to look and feel the most like a quality timepiece out of the devices I've tried. It's not super thick, it seems to match the thickness that you'd expect from a watch that looks like this. The faces that come with it have some nice appeal if you're into Fossil design. A note, the crown does not spin, it's just a button.
However that's where things seem to end. The real issue is the screen, it looks poor at almost any angle other than straight on.
It has a flat tire but with no ambient light sensor. It also looks washed out and yellowed, it almost appears to have waves like some lower quality screens get. It could partially be that I'm spoiled by the oled/amoled screens that many smartwatches have but even my Moto 360 Gen 1 had a better screen than this.
It also seems to take a very long time to charge, seemed to take close to 2+ hours to get to 100% from when I opened it up at around 20ish %.
For around $230, which is what I paid for my open box model, there are better options than this out there such as the Asus Zenwatch 3 or you could spend a bit more and get a LG Watch Style.

So this was a gift to me from my son for Christmas. I may be all things tech but had in my mind I'd never own an 'Smart watch' because it just seemed a waste of money. Even after having this watch for a month now, I still don't think I would purchase one myself. But that's just me. But I'll lay down $375 for two outdoor Nest cameras!
It's nice because my phone can be on the other side of the room or charging in the bedroom and I'll still get notified things are happening like texts. But sometimes I feel like I'm *too* connected. I don't like that. But I still wear it because it doubles as my step tracker. I think it's not very accurate but my Jawbone UP4 quit syncing just a couple days before so now this is the only thing I wear.
I can be in a meeting and feel it vibrate and can check to see what it was without pulling my phone out. So it's nice to have!
I have had zero problems with it. I've heard there are things you can do with these watches (like respond to texts) that I haven't been able to figure out mostly because I haven't take the time to figure it out.
Even after a heavy day of use (from 6 AM to 11 PM), I still end the day with 15% or more battery. I think the lowest I've gone is 12% and that was one time. But usually it's around 30% at the end of the day.
I haven't used it for phone calls. Don't talk much on the phone and reviews I've read don't encourage using it to talk on the phone.
So do I like the watch? Yes. Would I buy one myself? No. Would I recommend this? Yes, if you want that much connection to the virtual world.

The watch displays notifications, date and weather besides the time. It keeps track of your fitness activities and let you answer incoming calls from your phone. If you are a beginner this watch will work for you. It is affordable and reliable.

It was awesome!!! Big on style and unashamedly hefty, the Q Marshal is one of – if not the – best looking Android Wear watch out there right now. But it's light on substance, and further let down by a lacking display, including the flat tyre. We admire what Fossil is doing in blazing a trail for design, but on the Marshal the tech sometimes feels like more of an afterthought.

Very nice watch and fashionable. I use it with iPhone and it is very decent however you must sync it with the app constantly. I heard it works better with android phones but not have tried it. Very nice gift
