Customers are pleased with the fēnix 6X Sapphire Smartwatch's long battery life, durable build, and multi-sport capabilities. They appreciate the improved GPS accuracy and the scratch resistance of the sapphire glass. While some find the price to be a drawback, many believe it is worth the investment. Some users would prefer a touch screen and have concerns about the accuracy of the heart rate sensor.

I exercise 3-4 times a week, either running (on average, about 5 miles per run) or riding a road bike (usually 25-30 miles per ride).
I'll start with negatives/areas of concern with the Fenix 6X Sapphire:
- while the GPS accuracy is excellent, it is not quite as good as my old Suunto Ambit3 Peak. I am VERY picky when it comes to GPS accuracy; few will notice a difference. And the Fenix 6X is a far superior watch in nearly ever other respect.
- It's a big, somewhat heavy watch. This is due to the larger screen and the high-quality build. If you're competing in Ironmans and are concerned about every gram, get the Forerunner 945.
Now the many positives:
- The screen is amazing. Bright, easy to read, and 37% larger in total area compared to the traditional screens that are 1.2" in diameter. This is 1.4" in diameter; it sounds like a small difference, but it is noticeable.
- User interface is outstanding. Better than the Forerunner 945. You can display up to 8 fields at once while exercising and the menus are very intuitive.
- Maps/navigation work very, very well. I love the turn-by-turn directions. I can plan and run/ride new courses on GarminConnect. The larger screen allows you to get maximum benefit in this area. I did get lost when running some trails for the first time recently (I was focused on not twisting my ankle on the many roots...). This watch came in handy, as I was able to navigate my way back to my car.
- Wrist HR sensor is excellent, even when running at a 7-8 min/mile pace. I used to wear a HR strap because it allows me to pace myself properly. But I no longer need it for running. I still use the HR strap for cycling because I have the watch mounted on my handlebars (using the separate watch holder available through Garmin).
Overall this watch is truly amazing. I believe this watch will last me at least 3 years and then have some resell value at the end of that period. If you exercise outside 3+ times per week and think you would benefit from the mapping, this is the watch to get. I believe that the sapphire is a worthwhile investment, as it literally never scratches. You can find YouTube videos of people using razor blades and drill bits to try to scratch it, but it just won't.
Hope this info is helpful...

My Gen 2 Apple Watch still worked just fine, but I saw the Fenix 6 and liked the idea of a Garmin GPS on my wrist. Instead of Pros & Cons, it's probably best if I list how I've found each one works compared to the other. Some of what I list is subjective (that is, personal choice), so your views may vary. I am a casual user, not into fitness or hard-core hiking. Keep those in mind when reading my comparison.
HOW I'VE FOUND THE FENIX 6 IS BETTER THAN THE APPLE WATCH
- Face Customization: There are oodles of custom faces by developers, whereas you're limited by Apple as to what your watch face looks like and contains. As an example, my current face has time, date, moon phase, distance walked, real-time pulse, steps, progress bar compared to yesterday's steps), 2nd time (mine is set to Zulu/GMT), temperature, humidity, weather icon, notifications waiting, and battery status. And this isn't even one of the more complicated faces.
- Battery Life: My Gen 2 Apple Watch needed to be recharged every night. The Fenix 6 lasts all week off one charge.
- GPS: Obviously, with the Garmin brand, you're getting their bread & butter feature with no connection needed. My Apple Watch needed a cellular pairing for GPS. I know later generation Apple Watches have stand-alone, but you still need a cellular signal.
- Round Face: This is clearly my opinion, but I've never liked being limited to a rectangular face. We'll see if the next Apple Watch has the rumored round face.
- Sunlight readability: The Fenix 6 face looks stunning in direct sunlight. Sure, I can read the Apple Watch face just fine in direct sunlight. But the colors in the Fenix 6 face practically glow.
- Face durability: My Apple Watch picked up a 3mm scratch in the middle of the face early on. I've inadvertently whacked the Fenix 6 on a few walls and chairs and such and the sapphire glass remains unmarred. The bezel has held up without damage, too.
HOW I'VE FOUND THE APPLE WATCH IS BETTER THAN THE FENIX 6
- Touch Screen: I really miss the Apple's touch screen. Using side buttons to scroll through menus is cumbersome.
- Working with iOS: Obviously, the Apple Watch works seamlessly with the iPhone. The Fenix 6 is just *capable* of working with iOS. I listen to music and podcasts quite a bit and while the Fenix 6 will control iTunes, it doesn't do it as well as the native capabilities in the Apple Watch. Part of this comes from the ease of using the touch screen. Sure, Android users will have a different point of view, but this review isn't about working with Android.
- Price: Wow....I'm still disappointed in myself for spending this much. At the time of my purchase, the Fenix 6 Sapphire was $995.88 (with sales tax and the Geek Squad extended warranty). Yes, I knew before I clicked to purchase, but yikes.
- Simpler is better for the casual user: I have no need for all the capabilities of the Fenix 6, and while my Apple Watch still does more than I'll ever need, at least I don't have the nagging feeling that I'm just wasting my ownership for not using it to climb Everest.
- Screen appearance in the dark: While it's plenty bright, the backlighting on the Fenix 6 looks bad to my eye. I'd prefer an actual black background, but the backlighting makes blacks look gray. I guess that's contrast. Apple Watch looks tons better at night to my eye.
Would I recommend it to another iOS user? Maybe. I'm already considering returning it and either going back to my old Apple Watch or purchasing a new one. My main complaints are the lack of touchscreen and the cumbersome iTunes controls. Hope this helps someone.

I bought this for my brother who will be the race director in one of new race Added for Asia trail master in our hometown in Philippines.. He told me it’s really helpful for him to track the elevation while planning the route for the race... he also use this for his races he participated in Hong-Kong and Thailand.. it’s a big help for him to keep on track the route he needs to take so he will not get lost... he’s most complains with his old watch before that after 4 hrs the battery will die down in gps mode..but this one the battery life is very long and it really suits him coz he only participate in Races that’s not less than 100 miles..

I had a Samsung Galaxy Watch before this, as well as iwatch 4 and briefly iwatch5. I also tried Mobvoi's ticwatch briefly last year.
This is not a watch for everyone. You have to give up some creature comforts and basically all eye candy. You get superb battery life and amazing visibility in very bright conditions.
Pros:
+ supports music. Both plain files as well as Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music. Hookup your BT headphones directly to the watch and you can leave your phone behind for runs.
+ BT strength is best from the watches i've tried above. On walks/runs, i've never had music interruptions.
+ Battery life as promised - I get 12-15d total from the watch with 1hr of GPS activities/day
+ Supports any activity on earth.
+ onboard maps with POIs
+ Sapphire glass
+ you get notifications for calls/messages/apps
Cons:
- Wildly inaccurate HR sensor. I get readings of 195 for over 15min doing simple elliptical warmup.
- Due to the awful HR, all calculations done by the watch are useless. Training effect, VO2, etc are all garbage values as they are derived from garbage HR values.
- Firmware update experience not great. I have not been able to get it to update over the GarminConnect app. Only the GarminExpress desktop app seem to be able to do it.
- very utilitarian graphics. No eye-candy or animations here.
- Sapphire glass is a bit dark and has more reflections than the gorilla glass option.
- No phone call capability (no mic/speaker on board)
- build quality is a bit iffy. The buttons have a strange double-click feel, which seems to be normal.
This watch has been a bitter disappointment. It is supposed to be a personal trainer on your wrist, but due to bad sensors, it is useless as a training device WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE ITS MAIN STRENGTH and the reason you're dropping $1K on a barely-smart watch.
Nevertheless, I kept it after my return window mainly because (in order)
1. i can afford it
2. it has great battery life
3. i hope Garmin will get their act together and fix the bad sensors with firmware.
Oh, for anyone curious, I bought the iwatch5 and returned it in 3 days since it would only last from 8am till 1pm before completely shutting itself down due to battery discharge. Pretty thing though

This is my 3rd Garmin Fenix Sapphire watch, starting with the 3, then 5, now the 6. These are amazing watches, with every feature you could ever need. They are tough, but yet stylish and I wear mine everyday. I pass down my old units and none have ever failed.
Fitbit has some features that are implemented better (sleep tracking, exercise identification, and a prettier interface). Despite these few advantages, the Fenix's solid platform and customization make it the winner in my opinion. Battery life is incredible.

Honestly this watch is in another league of its own.
There are lots of smart watch choices out there, but this thing is built LIKE. A. TANK. It has so many sensors that it is mind-dizzying in a good way. Also: the battery life on this thing makes other smart watches look like TOYS.
If you want to monitor your sleep habits (or sleep health) this is the way to go. Keep it on 24/7 like I do and you'll see how your daily routines affect your sleep, heart rate and SPO2.
I highly recommend this watch to all of my athlete friends.

I researched for months on Garmin watch to get and decided to get the Garmin - fēnix 6X Sapphire Smartwatch 51mm. Everything I was reading was spot on but never found an honest opinion on the size. This watch is huge. I have watches that are in the 47mm - 49mm range and thought how much bigger could this be. It was massive on my wrist. I returned and ordered the Fenix 6 - Pro Titanium. Much better size and the screen size is not big of a difference.

This was an upgrade from a Garmin Fenix 5. Only reason for a star deduction is daily charging to 100% takes more time.
Pros
- it looks like a watch
- it tracks everything
- it has gps
- it now has music w/bluetooth!
- battery life is amazing!
- very well built - other than strap, never had an issue w/my last one
Cons
- expensive
- can sometimes loose bluetooth sync
- seems to take more time to charge than my last (bigger screen? tracking more?)
- so many features, takes a bit of investment to set up best for you - and printed instructions are minimal
Love it! I will buy again in 2 years when they release the next one

I have worn my Fenix 6 for around 4 months every day. It has been great for riding dirtbikes and mountain biking. It will connect with my wahoo heart rate monitor and even headphones if you dont want to bring you phone along. I did take a pretty nasty crash during a dirtbike race and slammed the watch against a metal pole and the ground at 30+MPH. Tore my arm all to pieces but the watch doesn't even have a scratch on it.

I upgraded from the Fenix 5x. I really hesitated to do so. However I am very happy that I decided to go forward. I purchased the 6x sapphire. Great improvements over an already outstanding watch. Bigger screen makes a huge difference when viewing maps. gps locks on much quicker. Battery life is outstanding. If your your considering this watch, don’t hesitate. You will not be disappointed

I am a garmin fenix fan since model 3x. Garmin keeps making them better as they update them. I use it for running, swimming, playing soccer, crossfit, and hiking. This watch is for sports. I love the sapphire because I tend to bump into things and my watch face doesn't get scratch nor damage. So no need to buy screen protection.

Pro: Garmin Fenix 6X is a great watch! Purchased my Fenix 3HR 3 years ago and love it...but this watch is amazing. Extremely durable, comfortable and accurate. Battery life: while using daily is still averaging a week prior to a re-charge. You won’t be disappointed.
Con: Pricey BUT you get what you pay for.

I was debating between this one and the solar. I decided to go with the sapphire because I use to have the fenix 3 hr in sapphire and the screen never got scratched despite my mountain bike spills. This screen is noticeably bigger than my 3 Hr. I am really happy with the watch. Garmin fenix is definitely the best in its class. Worth every penny. The battery life is truly exceptional. I use it 24/7 literally.

I have few apple watches that I purchased each year that are not even close to accuracy and performance to Garmin Fenix 6x. Connectivity to the phone is very simple and easy for anyone. Battery life on this watch is incredible. I have been using the watch currently mainly at the gym. Fenix has been able record my reps with usually 99% accuracy. There are too many features that I can write a entire essay and how great this watch really is. I would recommend anyone thats switching or looking to upgrade from Apple watch it is years ahead of it.

If you need a do everything watch, this is it! I had the Apple Watch for years, and continued to upgrade every year. The daily charging of the Apple Watch was terrible and it was not as accurate as it should be at that price point. With the Fenix 6x I can go 2-3 weeks without charging. It is extremely accurate and fun to use. I'm also able to do a lot of things I used to do on my Apple Watch. Garmin Pay works just was well as Apple Pay and I still receive notifications of text, emails, phone calls, etc. on the watch. Only downside is you cant respond on the watch and actually have to use your phone. To be honest it has been great being detached from my Apple Watch, which consumed more of my time than it should have. Either way if you are debating between the two go with the Fenix 6x, you will not regret it!
