I bought this Nuvi 2589LMT to replace a Magellan gps that I had. I am very pleased with it. I have used several other Garmin units, of friends, and I have nothing but good things to say about this model. Like any unit it sometimes recommends a different street that I may not have taken, but it does not add any extended time or distance to the destination. And I had a question when I got this unit, called Garmin support and was taken care of immediately and actually talked with someone who spoke English and was in the U.S. I highly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 2589LMT.

my wife got me this gps for my business and road trips and I love it. its very very easy to use, unlike a few I had in the past. I didn't have to install anything, it was ready as I took it out the box and plugged it in. its very detailed as to speed, exits, arrival time, tollways, gas stations, rest areas and restaurants. all in all awesome, would I recommend this for sure!

Very Easy to Use and Very Accurate

Great, Easy to use. Informs of lane changes well in advance. Have not used the voice command yet. Side by side pictures are so nice. Informs of construction on route and the time of delay. Can look up places by name if the address is not known. Very good GPS for the price.
My only complaints for this GPS are two. One is a personal preference. the second was a problem with the unit.
First, I would like to have the zoom setting be a permanent setting. I like to be zoomed in more that the default and when the unit uses the side by side, it will revert back to the default. I have to zoom back to my liking.
Second, my first unit's screen started to freeze up and would not work at all, I had to hold the button on to reset it. I returned it to Best Buy and received another one. I would have given this five stars if not for that. I still like the GPS enough to get another one rather than get a different model or brand.

The best choice

I bought this GPS for Law Enforcement use. I needed a GPS that shows the road I'm on, direction of travel, and the roads coming up. I initially bought a TomTom which did not have the features I needed and didn't work well here in Alaska. I bought the Garmin and it was very easy to set up and was ready to go at a push of a button. It has all the features I need and more. I highly recommend this product, and it was WELL worth the $50 more than the other brands.

I have had three previous Garmin's and this is definitely the best performing one to date. A bit pricey, but I fell this is an excellent product and I would highly recommend it.

I loved this GPS out of the box. The screen size was perfect, the voice command etc., but then I took my first trip. Coming home to Long Island NY from Kingston NY was my first problem. It wanted me to go on 87 north, not south. I have no idea where it was trying to send me but I took 87 south. I wanted to take the thruway all the way down but it kept trying to send me to NJ which is fine because its a shorter route, but after I to to a certain point it recalculated my trip by trying to send me back north to follow its route and added an extra hour onto my arrival time. I kept driving south and it finally adjusted arrival time. And it also takes a long time to recalculate route if you miss exit. My last Garmin was able to recalculate on the fly in less than 30 seconds. This one took over 2 minutes each time

I'm sorry to hear you had a less-than-exemplary experience with your new nuvi 2589LMT. Both of the concerns you outline could be related to route and navigation settings, specifically the avoidance options. The traffic service could also have played a role if the device was set up to avoid that and it detected any kind of incident along the standard route (considering traffic as an avoidance can lengthen route recalculations). If you haven't already, I also recommend updating the device's software and mapping using Garmin Express (www.garmin.com/express) to ensure that it's not caused by a map error. Thank you for the feedback! -JPK

I prefer a stand alone GPS to smart phone GPS. This replaces a 5+ year old Tom Tom and for the price I could not be happier.
Pros:
Very bright/easy to view screen
capacitive keyboard is very accurate and quick to enter information
Bluetooth connectivity so you can use your smartphone safely
Voice recognition allows you to enter a destination safely while driving
Very good speaker makes the voice clear and easy to understand
Lifetime map & traffic updates
Very extensive database of poi (places of interest such as gas station/banks/stores/restaurants et. on your route)
Finds satellites quickly
Micro SD card slot so you can add memory if needed
Con: Wish that it had a "walking" mode like past Nuvis.
I've used a number of GPS units over the years and frankly, most on the market today are at least "competent" and will get you there, but the Garmin Nuvi 2598LMT brings all the best GPS features at a very nice price.

Bought this because I broke my Magellan. Absolutely terrific GPS. Took it to Maine and no matter where I roamed, I never felt lost. Steered me to really good shortcuts (around Red's Eats) and never just tried to make me take u-turns. Now I want to drive around NJ just to use my new-found friend - Garmin.

I purchased this for my mom, so she doesn't have to use her cell phone as a GPS. It works perfectly for her. The map updating is very easy and the Bluetooth works great for her hands-free calling. It does all that it claims and is very user-friendly. It was definitely a great buy.

I purchased this GPS for my mother. She wanted something with a large screen, bluetooth and easy to use. It hit all those marks and then some. The initial map update took a bit but the lifetime updates are worth it.

Just bought a 2010 Land Rover LR2 HSE but it did not have a GPS spoke with Geek Squad about a IN DASH GPS they said this would fit my needs !
I love this unit makes everything perfect. I had a 10 year old Tom Tom that was portable but wanted in dash. Thank you Geek Squad & Best Buy.

This garmin fits all of our needs. I was taking my husbands car on a trip and it does not have a GPS installed so after looking at a few different ones this is the product we decided to purchase. It was very easy to update and I love that it tells me what the posted speed limit should be. (I've noticed that some roads the speed may have changed and it hasn't been updated in the GPS yet) but otherwise, awesome.

Started off great but died, BB sending new one. Item worked great when it would stay on. Would just shut off for no reason, item was fully charged and just wouldn't turn on. Bluetooth feature is fantastic and the map updates was sweet. Really like how it shows what restaurants are located with name instead of just showing food ahead. Will update when new one shows up, hopefully it was just a bad GPS unit!
