    As most everyone else, we have smartphones with maps. However, we are traveling to areas where cell phone reception is limited or non-existent. We purchased the Garmin to use in these situation. It worked great! Also my smartphone's battery was not constantly being drained by the maps. Great choice if you travel by car a lot (we do) to remote (National Parks and like) areas.

    When I plugged the unit into the computer, it took photos from the computer. When it wanted to download updates, I was told there was insufficient memory to hold the maps. It took three contacts with customer support before I found the problem myself. The only thing I got from customer support was that the units do not have enough memory to download all the maps you pay for. I had to buy a memory card.
