    Very Nice product

This is a great device. Very user friendly interface & adequate details. The only thing I would say is that 5" is an adequate screen size but its better to have a 6" one Garmin Nuvi 2689 may be considered.

This is my third different garmin. I picked this Garmin for cost and you could speak the address. It seems to work the same way that my other garmins have.

Visually great but too slow when it comes to turns

I've only used this system a few times. I purchased for the lifetime features and voice control. Visually, it's great but I'm finding that it's too slow when giving a direction for an upcoming turn. I've even almost missed a turn. Recently, it took me way out of the way on a trip but I still need to learn more about alternate routes and other features and maybe then I can give it a higher rating. I'm not really sure yet if I would recommend but for now I'll say yes.

I purchased this GPS because I was driving across the country. I know I could have used my phone but the GPS saved the battery and the cellular data.

Not sure how good the product works, as I have been attempting to update the device for HOURS! I can't believe there isn't a better way to update the device. When I registered the GPS, it said that there were 6 updates, and it would take almost 4 hours! Why is that? I have high-speed broadband with 100mbps download speed, can't I download it to my computer and then install the file to the device? Now the program is saying that the Garmin servers are not responding, and so I'm caught in a loop of failed update messages. I'm guessing that part of the issue is that the device has such small internal memory versus the update file size, which forces you to purchase a memory card! Not only that, but during the setup, it said that I could download custom vehicles and voices to the device through the Garmin website, but when I logged in, it says that this feature is no longer supported. Before I tried the update, I did one test of the places of interest search via voice command. Needless to say, it was WAAAAAY off what I asked to find. Unimpressed would be an understatement. I might be back to using my iPhone for navigation. :(

Overall good unit, but the USB cable that came with it is faulty. It would not communicate with Garmin Express for updates. I had to use a cable from another device in order to get it to work. The traffic updates could be better. Tough to sync in certain areas and it takes up a lot of the screen when activated.

    Problems updating the map

We have had Garmin Nuvi's before, and love them. I bought this one today (June 26), and it worked right out of the box. But then I went through the online download process through Garmin Express to get the latest map, it appeared to successfully download, but got the message "There was an error installing the update." And now the Nuvi says the map is locked! I tried several more downloads, and kept getting the same error. I will try to contact Garmin tech support, and if they can't help me I will have to return it.

    Nothing but problems!

I purchased a nuvi 2589LMT   from BestBuy GPS with Lifetime Map Updates - Black Model: 010-01400-01      BestBuy SKU: 3913152 Problems with this GPS started the day I bought it. First I had to buy more memory, then I spent hours on the phone with tech support, and they were helpful but problems continued. The unit is terribly erratic and unpredictable. Sometimes it goes on, most of the time it does not. Actually, since I started trying to use it, it worked correct for only about 10 minutes on 2 different short trips of less than a few miles. Both times it cut off while plugged into the auto charger (supplied). The light on the charger was on but the unit would not charge or even go back on. The first time it took days to recharge. I used USB and the auto charger while driving. Most of the time it could not or did not charge. Finally I got it to go back on again and be recognized by Garmin Express, the software for the GPS. On the second of its only trips with me, the it died again, while plugged in auto charger WITH CHARGING LIGHT ON on the charger, but nothing showing on nuvi. I got home, called tech support again, but they could do nothing since it would not turn on at all. I could not ever "soft reset" the nuvi. Dead. Completely. So I took it back to Best Buy for a refund. I bought it so I could use it to cross 3 states and attend a funeral for my brother, and wasted way too much of my time dealing with this... whatever you want to call it. Not user friendly if it does not charge or turn on. Such units need, for example, a small LED on front that indicates IF the nuvi is getting power and charging. Garmin also needs to make corrections in software AND info on website AND info in manuals, which don't address many issues. Garmin supposedly has a great product, but my experience with this nuvi has been a complete headache and has cost me precious days!

Do not buy this product. Worst piece of junk on the market. I could get better directions from a blind monkey with an etch-a-sketch! Absolutely the worst electronics device I have ever purchased. Stay away!

I got this because the price was great and the ratings were great...I am going out of town soon so I decided to try and set it up in my car....the dash holder was an epic fail but I could live with that! What I couldn't live with was it not pairing with the Bluetooth in my car...that was the whole point of me buying it!! Words of advice make sure it pairs with your car Bluetooth

Thank you for providing feedback on the nüvi® 2589LMT. We apologize about the Bluetooth confusion, this GPS is designed to be synced to a Bluetooth-enabled phone, such as your smartphone for hands-free calling and to share information via the Garmin Smartphone Link app. Thanks, James Garmin

    No Bluetooth Compatibility With Audi

This is a nice little unit and functions well, but it has not bluetooth compatibility with my car so directions cannot be sent through tha car's speakers for clarity. It recognizes the connection, but says incompatible. Returning it tomorrow. There really is no excuse for this...ALL phones can connect to ALL cars, so why can't Garmin products do the same?

    My worst purchase in years

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm very disappointed with this purchase. The GPS takes a long time to locate a signal -- sometimes up to 10 minutes. A few weeks ago, I was in the car and it couldn't find a signal at all. I got an error message, which ended going away after I checked for upgrades. The prompts for turns sometimes come while you're making the turn, or after you've just passed your turn. The graphics are not as good as the last Tom Tom I had, which showed more "life-like" graphics for exit ramps, etc. The traffic feature is unhelpful in a city environment because it doesn't update often enough. The GPS will often tell you "traffic ahead" when you're already at a complete stop. On the positive side, I like how you can put in points-of-interest when you don't know an address. I wish I had returned this product... now it's too late.

    Erroneous Routing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The route provided by the 2587LMT to a many time travelled destination in the Northern half of Michigan's lower peninsula differed greatly from the route provided by my old - never updated Garmin 265WT which provided the correct route. The 2589LMT was set to avoid unpaved roads. It took me down many unpaved back roads, it directed me to take a turn 15 miles out of the way, it asked me to turn into non existing roads (private driveways?), turn onto a 2 track road, turn left into a private road to a hunt club blocked by an iron gate. I lack trust in the directions this unit may provide in similar rural situations.

    DEFECTIVE UNITS

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The first unit's touch screen didn't work properly--the virtual buttons sometimes worked with a tap and sometimes worked with a tap and hold, but mostly didn't work. And the screen navigation buttons (scroll down and back) that appear on the left of some screens didn't work at all. The replacement unit was even worse. The screen pulsed between bright and dim at about 1-second intervals, and when turned off, it wouldn't turn off--it kept displaying the first two splash screens, then go black and repeated.

This is a review on Garmin NUVI 2589LMT. I had to return it for a different 5" Garmin model. Out of the box, the 2589LMT, charged but it refused to turn off. It would reboot itself rather than turn off. It kept going to the power saving mode. I bought the DriveSmart 50LMT 5" GPS as a replacement.
