We hate the fact that all updates are online and for good reason. We had not updated in a few years and felt we wouldn't again for another few. So the ease of purchasing the memory card and no downloads prompted the pruchase. Caught it on sale and we are pleased. Every time you turn on the unit it does take a little longer to have the maps update than before but a short wait and you are on your way.

I've lived in my house for 5 years and it's been around for 15+, and for some reason even the latest map update still has directions to my house wrong. And it's in an Atlanta zip code! Not sure if the update works since my gps didn't tell me it's reading a new card or anything. But, I do sometimes get 2 of the same addresses that pop up when I search so maybe it's because of the update card.

The card works great, and it can be switched between units. The directions don't really tell you how to verify reference to the new maps, i.e., to make sure the unit is using the newly installed card. The website helps you with that in searching the FAQs.
