Customers are delighted by the 4.5 cu ft Top Load Washer's cleaning performance, large capacity, and ease of use, frequently praising its spacious tub and the inclusion of an agitator. However, a significant number of customers reported that the washer is quite loud and that the spin cycle could be improved. Some also mentioned issues with the washer's balance and occasional reliability problems. A few users expressed concerns about the lid lock feature.

Much better than old front loader

We have really liked this washing machine so far. After switching from a front loader, the capacity for this is huge. We like all the washing options. It was key for us to be able to select the water level. So many other models have changed to auto water level selection. We wanted more control. Like the other reviews mentioned, this washer is a little loud. That doesn't really bother us. And it does do a few clicks and locks the lid momentarily when it starts. That is strange. Maybe should be 4 1/2 stars due to the noise and the starting routine.

I’m tired of the front loading machine that makes clothes stink, tired of the machine with no spindle that keeps getting unbalanced and clothes that have an after smell. After having tried those and keeping them til they broke on me, I went back to plain Jane with this GE with spindle. Cleans my clothes well, and while you CAN hear it washing it doesn’t bother me a bit! Glad to have a machine that I’m not frustrated with.

I am completely satisfied with this washer. I was very hesistant because there were some bad reviews but then all the washers had some bad reviews. I talked with my appliance repair man and asked what he recommended. This is the product I ended up with. First of all, people complain that it doesn't have enough water. I think people don't know that you can only fill it half way with clothes. The repair guy says no washer should be filled to the top with clothes. So I fill it half way or less and have no problems at all shaking or draining or anything. I like that it is a top loader as front loaders can get mold and mildew easier. It has lots of settings. The only one I wished it had would be hand wash. It does have delicate. Everything seems to come out fine. I haven't had any issues with it hurting certain fabrics. I am satisfied with the water level choices and like that I can control it. So basically I would recommend this washer. Just don't misuse it and I think it will be good.

So far, I really like this washer. It is a bit confusing at first, but the dials do make sense. I'm really impressed with its capacity -- way larger than my old one. You can absolutely control the water level to do smaller loads too. My favorite feature is Auto Soak: Off, 15 minutes, 30, 1 hour, 2 hours. Soaking really gets things cleaner, and I love that it soaks and then goes through the rest of the cycles.

I read many of the reviews in order to choose this machine. I agree with the majority that it works well. There are more settings than on my last one, but I don’t have to get out a manual to use it. I like that it senses the water level and you can add to the level by pushing a button til you stop it. The reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 Star is because it is a loud machine.

This is an efficient washer. Easy to set up. Can use liquid detergent or pods with it. Features extra rinse, extra spin which is nice. My clothes are never knotted up or twisted after being washed. The machine is deep so it is sometimes a challenge to get small items in the bottom of the tub. It is much quieter than my old machine. I am happy with my purchase. I narrowed my purchase down to two machines based on Consumer Report and I am very happy with this purchase.

Greatest invention since sliced bread. I had a hard time adjusting to what the load specifications were, but I am the sort of person who would always use a load size up for a better wash.
This machine fills up just enough to wet the garments and to loosen the dirt. Then after a short time, the machine adds more water to the load and continues to finish the wash cycle.
I have found that over-filling the water amount makes the machine unbalanced on the spin cycle, forcing you to adjust the clothes before letting the spin continue. I use the double rinse with every wash, and added to the more efficient wash cycle, my cloths come out much cleaner than any of my other machines.
PS ... you don’t need to buy the expensive machines to get a great wash. I know, I’ve been there, done that.

We bought this because it was larger and supposed to clean better with agitator. It is always thrown out of balance. Wouldn't spin and extract water from bath mats and entry rug. 3x4 We specifically bought with this in mind. Not happy

Hello Paul - Thank you for choosing GE Appliances for your laundry room. We appreciate your trust and hate to hear it is not living up to expectations. If you find a load still has some extra water in it, you can run a drain and spin cycle to help with this. For awkward loads such as floor mats and rugs, we recommend making sure the load is even as possible. Adding a towel or two to make sure this is done could be useful. Please let us know if you have any more questions or concerns. - John@GEAppliances

The washer is just the right size for our small laundry area - the only drawback I see so far is I wish it had a quiet close lid....its one thing I miss about our old washer for sure. Other than that, it's a very good washer for the size and price.

Washer is a little noisy. Otherwise I am very happy with the purchase. I had an issue in getting it here as the system kept kicking out my scheduled day of delivery. This went on for almost 3 weeks until I finally got someone on the phone who listened to me and just didn't tell me what I wanted to hear...it was taken care of. Everyone promised to follow up and no one did. It took Regina in Missouri to finally solve the issue.

It cleans clothing pretty well, but it is the loudest contraption ever devised, and has long wash cycles. My previous Whirlpool washer was not quiet, but this thing makes it difficult to watch TV or a movie ON ANOTHER FLOOR.

We had our washer for 30 years and never even one service visit before it died. It was very difficult to pick out a new one, but this GE with Precise Fill seemed to have good reviews. We had experience with a fairly new dishwasher using pods for cleaning. Best Buy delivered the new washer right on time. The inner tub is much larger than expected, compared to old washers and hard to believe, it held a full week's worth of clothes! Then adding the cleaning pod, some fabric softener, and selecting the right level of water, it has done a fantastic job in the last two weeks. The clothes are actually cleaner, which is hard to believe, but yes, if you follow the instructions and use the cleaning pods, it does a great job and does use less water than the old washer. Have not had any off-balance problems, we try to balance the load at the outset if there are heavy towels, etc. Its capacity is almost twice that of our old machine.

I am pleased with my washing machine. It does take some getting use to with the water level as mentioned in other reviews. But I’m assuming that’s because the tub is larger and doesn’t need to go to the top of the tub I just let water fill up then put my clothes in since the sensor goes by the height of the clothes. Close lid hit start open lid it will pause just hit the button again. Other than that it’s great little bit of a noise when washing but like I said gets some getting use to. I would purchase this machine again.

I wanted a simpler machine because I was tired of all the gadgets on the higher tech machines breaking down. So far I love my new machine. My last machine had an impeller and I never felt like my clothes were getting clean. I had to prewash everything before putting it in the machine. I went back to a model with an agitator and I don’t have to wash out every piece of dirt anymore. I love that I can adjust my water level and let my clothes soak in this machine. The only part I didn’t like was that the machine was constantly on sale when my state was in the red phase and then when my state started to open up again, the cost went up. That was across all stores, Best Buy still had the best cost for delivery of the new and pickup of my old machine.

This review is 3 weeks after purchase. So far I love it. The precise fill does get the clothes very wet and the spin leaves the clothes needing a shorter dryer cycle than my old washer. I didn't think I would use the soak feature but needed it twice since purchase and it was so convenient. I've used the different load settings with good effect and was able to wash a king sized medium fill comforter with no issues.

This machine is perfect for me and with the agitator my clothes come out cleaner and all the soap is rinsed out too. My previous top loader did not have an agitator and I could see soap lines especially on my black items. This machine is large enough to wash my king size quilt. I made the right choice this time.

Had a Whirlpool Cabrio for 7 years which I disliked from day one. It finally died & wasn't worth fixing so I searched for a top loader with no electronics, a basic model that would do the job. This machine is it. I've only done about 8 loads of laundry since receiving it, but this washer does a great job cleaning. Plenty of settings; works great. Very happy with it and it was a great price. Best Buy delivered & installed. Had it quickly, great communication through the delivery process and 2 terrific guys who installed & demonstrated. A very satisfied customer!

Cleans well but it's LOUD

This washing machine is loud. I mean LOUD. The very first time I used it I literally paused the cycle while I went to their support site. Fortunately, they have "demo" sounds of what the washer is supposed to sound like, and sure enough... apparently it's supposed to sound loud. (Though the demo sounds seem a but muted, because mine is much larger.) I'm currently looking at acoustic panels to line the doors to my laundry nook just because this thing is so loud.
Aside from that there are a lot of different cycles, soil levels, water temp levels, and everything else about this is great. (I'm downstairs, the laundry is upstairs, and I can hear it agitating right now.)
Also, it seems to get off-balance relatively easily. In the month or so that I've had it I've had to pause and shift around about one load every week.

The new washer -- wonderful. The old washer would get out of balance regularly and need to be restarted. No such problems with this one. The price was reasonable and it is easy to use, efficient and clothes come out clean. What more could you ask for?
