Great range - one installation problem

Installation of the power cord (GE brand cord kit) was made difficult as the knockout ring in the wire cover bracket was not able to be removed. At least not by me following the provided instructions. It seemed as if it had not been completely punched during manufacturing. That meant that the hole for the strain relief was slightly smaller and made installation of the strain relief very difficult. After much trouble I was able to get the cord and strain relief installed in the smaller hole. Love the range so far (less than a month). Induction is fast and responsive.

This is my first induction range and I love it. The stove top is never hot so cleanup is easy and it is wonderful to have such control over the heat. I occasionally use the convection feature of the oven. I think it takes some things longer to cook using it but things seem less likely to burn.

The induction cooktop is the main reason that I bought this range. It is easy to use and offers almost instantaneous change to cooking level. The controls are straightforward and easy to navigate. The WiFi connected oven is handy and notifications that the oven has reached temperature are sent to my smartphone.

Best range I have ever used in my five decades. Induction cooking is the best way to go. We were going to purchase a duel fuel to have gas stove with electric oven but I am glad we stayed electric and got the induction.

    Nice Induction Range

This is my first induction range (previous gas). Induction is fast, hot, clean and does not heat up the whole kitchen. I like it. It works well. The range top is very nice, however, when you have spill overs, it can run down the sides, back or front. Clean up of the top is easy and the range top is only hot where the hot pot is touching it. The control panel is easy to clean when necessary. The only significant drawback that I found was that the burners have a minimum size for the magnetic bottoms of the pots. I was not aware of this. It would really be nice if the large burner(8") could also work with smaller pots. This problem mostlikely would be the same for all the other induction ranges that I looked at in this price category.

Stove heats so fast and burners don't stay hot. The oven works well. The top is super easy to clean and not staying hot means no food is burned on it.

GE-Profile Series 5.3 Cu. Electric Induction Convection Range- Stainless steel purchased 11/2019 has made cooking and baking a lot easier. Saves time with induction top going from cool to boil in less than 2 minutes. Cleaning the surface after spills and cooking is important to keep it looking like new. Cool to touch after turning off burner happens quickly so foods don't overcook. Convection oven is a must for baking. Best Buy had the lowest price and educated sales staff to guide me into choosing this model.

Every thing about this range is great, from the large convection baking space, to the induction 5 burners and their options to the ease of operation and optional app control. We love to cook and bake and this range is an affordable power house with bells and whistles to guarantee to please.

Bought it a year ago and very nice unit. Giving it a 4 because sometimes the elements don’t turn on till I have to fiddle with powering on the main induction element burner. The issue is random. Love the self cleaning oven.

Gotta tell ya that we've been loyal to Bosch for fifteen years, but since they don't make a freestanding version anymore, we took a chance on the GE Profile. We've really enjoyed the newer feature that you can't find on a Bosch!

    Not impressed

I had read that chefs really like the induction range so I thought I would get one. There were no reviews on this range by GE but I bought on their reputation. Having never used one, and having to purchase new cookware it has taken me 2 months to form a review. I'll start with things I don't like. First the burners don't seem to hold an even temperature. I can be heating a sauce to simmer and then element clicks and the heat drops. 2 seconds later the heat comes on to simmer, then clicks and drops off. I was expecting it to hold a closer tolerance more like a gas range. You set the flame and the temp holds. This tends to cycle on and off constantly. Very difficult to make a nice sauce that way. And the clicking gets to be real annoying after a while. Another problem is I can put the element to high to boil water. It starts to get close to breaking a boil and then the heat seems to moderate. If I back off the heat one notch from say 10 to 9 it begins to boil. Very odd. Also the time it takes to bring a pot of water to boil varies a great deal. Fill a big pasta pot with water and although quicker than gas, it seems to expend great effort to go from bubbles at the bottom of the pot to a rapid boil. And if you have a pot with maybe a gallon of water, even on the big element, it struggles to get to a roiling boil. The broiler works pretty well but does not brown evenly. There seems to be a sweet spot that is about 12 x 15 inches that browns evenly. Outside of that is a mixed bag. Other reviewers have mentioned the flimsiness of of the bottom drawer. I agree. GE service leaves much to be desired. I call them last night to discuss the range issues. The rep I talked to is nice and likely US based but has no knowledge of how the range should work. Essentially he recommended I get a tech rep out to look at it. He tried to make an appointment to get a GE person out but is unable to. I have to have a repair company come out. That person may or may not have an experience with the range. He told me to call back later and talk with someone else to see if they can get a rep out within two weeks or so. Things I like are the easy clean top. In general the elements can boil water faster than my old gas range. And the range looks good sitting there. Can I recommend? No, not really. I bought on GE's reputation but from reading reviews of other manufacturers, I would have preferred to go another way at this point. Perhaps GE will turn me a round but I don't have a lot of faith.

    Life-changing

Love this range. We replaced a vintage electric coil range which wasn't great, but even compared to my past gas Viking range this is by far my favorite cooktop that I've ever had. SPEED: As a busy working family, getting home at 5:45/5:50 but trying to get dinner on the table by 6/6:15 before the little ones start screaming bloody murder, every extra minute counts. I can now boil a pot of water for pasta in 2-3 minutes. Compare this to the 7 or 8-15 minutes of my past stoves, and yes this is life changing. I can also preheat the oven remotely by the phone app, which typically saves ~15 minutes (still a significantly faster pre-heat than our old oven). With Convection Roast, roasted vegetable/potato recipes that state ~30 minutes are done in ~20. PRECISION: Super high heat for cast-iron neopolitan pizza with awesome blistered crust and semi-charred bottom that cooks within 4 minutes (1.5 minute stovetop, 2-3 minute broil). Medium-low to simmer (but not boil) the milk, and then low low heat for custard that comes together smooth and creamy without scorching or "scrambling" the egg yolks. Golden brown, crisp fried foods (rather than burnt/ soggy/ undercooked). These are just a couple dishes that have failed miserably in the past that I blamed myself for--but looking back it was not the recipe or technique that was the problem, it was the gas / electric cooktop! The buttons and light display makes it extremely easy to pump up or down the temperature to the precise level you’re seeking. EFFICIENCY: It rarely gets crazy hot in the Bay Area, but during heat waves I appreciate that I'm not heating up the kitchen by turning on the stove. Cleaning is also a breeze, just wipe down. I have finally started cleaning my stovetop more than once a week or month, lol. CONS: The wi-fi connect/ app can be very tricky to set up. Otherwise, I’ve had zero hiccups with this range! One thing to watch out for is that you do need to be careful with using high heat. As stated, it’s very powerful and pans heat up super fast. My parents who visited and cooked forgot this regularly and ruined some fairly expensive Scanpan non-stick skillets. We’ve replaced these with carbon steel, and so hopefully these should be less easily abused/ruined… (if that happens, we’ll go back to just cast iron--Lodge now says it’s OK to use their cast iron on glass-top). I cannot imagine even going back to gas if/when we sell our house and move. Highly recommend!
