solid tech demo for early adopters

If you've already dropped an investment in the Galaxy s6 (or the Edge) then this accessory will put your smartphone through all of its paces and give you a front row seat in the coming VRpocalypse, without having to invest in a competitive gaming pc. It will at least give you a taste of what the first quarter 2016 Oculus Rift experience may be like. The screen resolution feels comparable to the Oculus Crescent Bay demo from spring 2015. This is the test bed for the consumer VR interface. The stability of the sense of place, that the environment in which you are immersed is persistent, is surprisingly solid, even using the smartphone's accelerometers, contrasted with optical motion-tracking. The difference is that with the Gear VR, your position is fixed, even though you can rotate your gaze in all directions; in a 3D game environment generated on the fly by a remote computer and head-tracking, you can also move your head around within a proscribed area. You won't run out of games and proof of concept experiences before getting a sense of how to get the most out of the Gear VR. Staring into the eye of an Apatosaurus is almost as unnerving as being peered at by Smaug in his lair, but it'll be months at least, if ever, before any consumer can make that comparison, which is why this is called an innovator edition. Download Unity and start making your own VR experiences!

Made by Samsung and Powered by Oculus, this is the future of media that you can try today. I take it everywhere I go and people love trying it out. There are more and more VR experiences everyday but more importantly, you can use the gear vr as a dev kit to build your own. Be a part of the future and get it today ;)

It's exciting to know that this simple yet amazing piece of kit will be available to all Galaxy 2015 owners in a couple weeks for $99. At $199 it was still more than worth it. You'll be impressed with what your little phone can do with the Oculus software running on it.

Cool device, if i could only get netflix to work on it.
After back and fourth with tech support telling me to uninstall and reinstall the gear VR software (4 times and a factory reset) i still can't watch netflix. just sitting in the movie room with a blank screen. they told me to wait for a phone firmware update and closed my support ticket.
everything works perfectly fine, except netflix.

Excellent quality visuals and head tracking. Limited content at Oculus store, no AR applications, some OK games. Closed system so no way (that I've figured out yet) to run third-party VR apps.
Generally a lot of fun and I am working professionally with VR, but overall definitely a first-generation consumer product.

I love this VR headset. I watch Netflix and home videos with it. I have played a few games and cannot eait until there are more made next year. The only negative thing about the headset is that it overheats a little bit too quickly viewing 360 pictures and the view gets foggy, but I heard they are correcting that with the new version that is being released in two weeks.

It's really tough to explain to someone -- in person or through a written review -- just how cool (or "neat" for you squares) VR can be, but it's something that everyone -- kids, grandparents, dogs, whatever -- should check out for themselves. If you already own the S6/S6 Edge (or, for another VR headset model, the Note 4), you ought to buy this device (or at least try it out) for the sheer novelty.
The one downside is that some people -- not many, but some -- can become nauseous from the disassociative effect(s) and movement and, while growing every day, the original content library isn't as robust as it could and probably will soon be. In the meantime, put a movie on your phone, click into the Oculus Cinema, and blow your mind at the sensation of watching that video in what appears to you as a full screen, state-of-the-art luxury movie theater or even on the moon.

Interesting Device, Too Little Content

This is a very interesting device that allows you to get a VR experience at a relative low cost. The device is comfortable to wear. Unfortunately there is not much content out there. The VR experience is probably a few years off, VB ut this is a solid effort from Samsung and Oculus.

Fun, there is no other word for it.
From a tour of the Solar System to Movies on the Moon, This thing is fun.
But with the limitations of the technology you need to try it for your self.
Your local Best Buy Samsung Kiosk has Gear VR to try.
If you are even a little interested, it is worth your time.

I have had a blast with this thing! Not only does it add yet another ridiculous function to the S6 Edge, it also happens to be dirt cheap for a full-on VR experience pre-2016 when Oculus and Hololens launch their consumer model VR headsets.

Great Piece of Equipment for Early Adopters

First, I have to say that this really is intended for developers, BUT if you're an early adopter like myself, the Gear VR is offering a great preview of the VR content currently being developed. Many of the games and apps are still works in progress. You do however access them through the pretty much final version of the Oculus Rift marketplace. Samsung is really leading the charge for mobile virtual reality, and even if they make a stand alone unit sans Galaxy phone, it's pretty much a given that most of the newer games coming out next year and beyond will work on this scaled down platform. If you're on the fence about having to upgrade your computer to buy the Oculus or Vive headsets, this is an excellent "toe in the water" despite some ergonomic shortcomings.

I used the VR with Galaxy s6 edge. It works great. Heres the rub, I was unable to focus the VR closer enough to use. Contacted Samsung was told they were aware of the issue and it was repairable. However, Samsung customer service is HORRIBLE!!!. I found this to be the case any and all times that I have contacted them. Their product for the most case is excellent. Their Customer service is the worst. I returned the VR to Best Buy. Will wait for the final edition.

This was on sale when i bought the gear vr. It was worth the price paided. Very good quality. The main issue is it WILL cause your phone to over heat! But at this time it is by far the best vr system for your personal use.

Very cool, but sort of a novelty. Don't get me wrong this thing is amazing and for the price it's a must buy, but I haven't really picked it up a lot since the novelty wore off. Great to show off at parties though.

This is the best mobile Virtual Reality experience out there. I was using the cardboard version VR and that one is not nearly as easy to use and comfortable than this Gear VR version. I give it two thumbs up!
