Good system - too many extra charges
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nashua , NH December 2012. - I purchased a CompuStar Remote Start, 2-Way Remote Transmitter, with Geek Squad® Installation for $414 with an advertised price of $279 (See Below). It is a Christmas present for my wife and having it installed in her car with out her knowing was going to be a challenge. So I purchased the system and made the installation appointment for about 2 weeks later. I had a email confirmed 10:00 appointment on a Saturday morning, arrived at the Geek shop at 10:00 and both installation bays were full. This was interesting because the shop opens at 10:00. I asked if they had more bays around back he said no. Hmmmm I waited until 11:30 before my car was brought in. It appeared they slipped a friend in to do an alarm install in my place because the owner of the car bought the Geeks in the shop a couple pizzas for lunch and thanked them profusely. A confirmed paying customer with an appointment got bumped. When I bought the system, I was told the install would take about 2 hours . When I arrived I asked how long and the Geek said 3 hours from when we START the install. I left the shop four hours after my appointment at about 2:00. The four hour install did not help my ability to conseal the install from my wife. During these 4 hours I got to see how talented the sales people were. They have a particularly difficult job of selling a system that is advertised at one price and then getting the customer to pay a considerable amount more for the system. Everyone is told they MIGHT need $100 bypass module. They don't tell you that they charge an additional $29.00 for to install it until they write you up. Don't be fooled most cars today need this module so add $129.00 to the price of the system. The advertised cost installed for my system was $279.00 and I ended up paying $414.00 plus and additional $5 misc fee the day of the install. Also I was also told two different reasons for the additional $29.00 installation fee. The actual installation went well and took the installer, Jerimy, about 2 and a half hours including the lunch break. I spoke with the him after and he was very polite and knowlegable. He took the time to explain how the system worked and answered all my questions. I complimented him on how well he did on his standardized installers exam. His results are posted on the wall in the shop. He hid the antenna for me and explained how to remount it after Christmas.. He did a great job doing the install so it is undetectable. This system has an advertised range of 3000'. My wife works at a large hospital and hopefully will be able to start her car from her floor. The installer assured me it would not be a problem. I did start the car from the opposite side of the Best Buy building and I will update how well the system performs after I remount the antenna and she tries it at work. All in all it seems like a good system at an OK price. I just wish Best Buy would be more forthcoming about the price I hate nickel and dimeing It makes me feel like i'm getting ripped off. I also wish they had honored my confirmed appointment. My time is valuable espicially this time of year when I am provided with a long list of things to do on my weekends. I hope this helps.

Not sure if install or product problems..
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Install went well. It worked for 2 weeks And then my door locks started going crazy. This makes my born honk multiple times saying door is open. And one door will not lock and another will not unlock. I am taking it back to install location to have them take s look at it. As far as the install, I would recommend it if its not the problem I'm having. But if it is, I would go somewhere else

had to argue against extra costs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The remote start works, I dont know how often the wife actually uses it now that gas is $4 per gallon and idling the car uses up gas just to run the air conditioner or the heater......But she asked for it for a Christmas gift....oh the gift routine.... Turns out the advertised price on these remote car starters is a way for Best Buy to sell and additional $100 "module" plus and additional installation fee to every buyer of these remote start systems. Instead of selling them COMPLETE the nickel and dime every customer by saying "your car needs this module to make it work" There is NO evidence the install I had done even includes this so called module since theunit is installed hidden up in the dashboard and all that is visible is the antenna glued to the inside of the windshield behind the dark top sun shielding band all cars have nowadays. So be ready to pay an additional $130 plus taxes if it is on sale or not.

Very Professional Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My installer was very qualified and informative and helped make my experience with best buy highly recommended. Spent the whole day making sure everything was right and the car was in perfect condition when he finished. These remote starters are not always 100% perfect but it's the vehicles that have some issues. On mine if you remote start the car and the auto headlights are on and you don't get in it then there's a good chance you will kill your battery because once the set timer runs out and the car shuts off, the computer doesn't kill the headlights until a door is opened so be aware. It's the computer in the vehicle not the remote unit.

Another great install
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The local Best Buy team (Marlborough MA) did a great job. This is the 2nd install they have done for me in 6 months and they do a very professional job. The only complaint I have is with the verbiage online. It said installation would take approximately 2 hours. But When I went to schedule it I was told to plan on 4-5 hours. It turned out to take a little over 3 hours. Also I think the price (19.99) for the additional rocker switch for the trunk release is a little steep

Do NOT buy this service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Compustar remote start system that include the remote start installation as a bundle. I thought I was getting a pretty good deal. I received the unit at a timely manner and received the Geek Squad installation redemption codes. All I thought was to set up an installation date and I was ready to go. WRONG! The Geek Squad told me that I had to purchase additional hardware for a remote start system. I didn't mind that...but the problem was they they couldn't see what device I bought even when the SKU was provided. I called a few other stores and they all told me the same thing. So, I called customer support and wanted them to send me a return label. I returned the item and received an email that my CC was refunded ONLY FOR THE UNIT. The UNUSED installation portion was never refunded. From here on, I spent 5-6 hours on the phone trying to get someone to process the refund. Some reps told me I had to go to the store directly...so I did. The Geek Squad told me to call customer support. It was a waste of time and gas. After a week of this...I finally called today to have a nice rep tell me that once the Geek Squad service is purchased...ALL SALES ARE FINAL. I looked at the fine print on the Geek Squad voucher...this is what it says verbatim. "Services cannot be refunded or returned AFTER THEY ARE COMPLETED. " I've never used the code or even opened the package that the unit came from. Buyers...Please be careful of these purchases. I usually don't write bad reviews, but I don't want you guys to go through the same hassle as I did. As a customer, I've never been felt like I just got robbed a $100. None of the reps offered to do anything about it...all they said was that they were sorry because it was company Policy.

Super value and very convenient.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is the 2nd one of these I've bought through Best Buy deal of the day. I had one installed in my wife's car and my truck. It is super convenient to start the vehicle from the house and have it toasty warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I really love not having to scrape the frost and ice off my windows in the winter. I have recommended this to all my friends and several have purchased them and are glad they did.

Remote start installed without leaving a trace
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The installers at the Pembroke Pines Best Buy store were amazing. Not only did they install the remote start so I cannot even tell they were in my vehicle but they explained how to use it to all of the what if scenarios my wife and I could come up with. The unit works exactly like they said and it is nice to get into a car that is not 100 degrees after sitting in a parking lot in the Florida sun.

The installers seem to be mostly young kids
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the reservation system for a BestBuy vehicle install is frustrating. Each store has a seperate computer system, and no visual way to go online and see which stores have openings on what days. I live in a suburb of Chicago and there are various Best Buys both near my house and work. You need to Call each store to find out available dates, and if another customer cancels there is no way to find out this info. A BestBuy auto tech is unable to look on his computer and tell if another store has an open install date. 2nd complaint was my remote was programmed backwards, I need to press the Unlock button to Lock my doors and the Lock button to Unlock my door (obviously the tech didn't test the remote).
