My installation was cancelled by the store but they still took credit for my install so when I rescheduled my appointment they tried to charge me for my install because they said it had already installed it even though my box was still sealed

We had just purchased car and wasn't sure if it had existing keyless remote start/alarm. We also didn't realize we had forgotten to leave the trunk key. Rather than call us, to let us know, he simply installed the alarm in the car and said he would go back in to put alarm in the trunk for an extra $200.00 if we bring it back. Had he called, we could have had him connect the existing remote start/keyless alarm AND brought him the trunk key!!!

I had this installed on a 2008 Toyota Tundra Limited CrewMax. It was actually to replace the factory remote that didn't work. I figured that having the remote start feature on cold days would be nice. Installer told me it would be 4 hours to do the install and he started at 10am. At 2pm on the nose I received a call that my truck was ready. He showed me all the features, went over warranty info, and told me what they had done/setup. Installation guys where great and informative. The install was clean and works flawlessly!

My fiance bought me a viper keyless entry and remote start for Christmas. But I guess thats a popular time to get these items installed because it did seem as though they were booked for a while. Once we did get it installed we had no problems :) I was very impressed. When I traded that vehicle in they even took the remote start off for free! My fiance and I have had a lot of things done to our cars at this Best Buy. I can see a lot of the problems happening that people are writing about though. There is a lot of communication problems between sales people and the auto tech guys. Your best bet is to do your own research to talk to the auto guys yourself. I do see the problem with having things installed wrong too. We lucked out and have found a tech that we are very happy with and we won't deal with any other techs! This specific tech has answered all of our questions and made it a point to help us out as much as possible even when he is busy he stops and makes an effort to help us out. We were recently up there to see about having that same remote start I took off of a Cadillac Escalade being put on my new BMW and one tech said yea bring it in and the tech we like would see what parts we needed. When we arrived the tech we like stopped what he was doing and came to speak wit us. He looked it up and explained that he could not place it on the car because of its foreign wiring system. So yes we did waste a trip up there because the tech on the phone didn't bother trying but now I know it can't go on there because this tech made the efffort! So I guess mostly my review is that I can see all these problems happening but we lucked out with this great tech and have not had any problems!

I scheduled my Remote Car Installation through the Geek Squad and the job was very well done by the installer. So far no complaints and the installer was very professional and knew his work.

    Terrible Install

Brought my car in to get the VS4000 Remote start installed, should take 3-4 hours... Well it took them 3 days and an additional $160 to get it installed and not have it fully functional. Not included in the $160 was the fact that i had to give them my spare key to work the system, an additional $28 cost to me. Wire ends were left in my vehicle, they took away some functionality of my car too, the key release button allowing me to remove my keys with vehicle running was disconnected with out permission. No trunk access, no horn confirmation, no panic, only lock, unlock, and start. My steering column is also not correct after they worked on it, all in all, not a very happy purchase. This was all done at the CHAMPAIGN IL store, (Store 46) .

    Worst Installation Package.

Geek squad installation is total ripoff. They wanted $194 extra for the installation. I asked what does this installation cover, they said "Basic Installation". The parts and total labor cost came out to be more than what my dealer quoted for better remote starter so end up returning both part and installation package. I suggest you guys call before making purchase and ask what will be the total cost before buying this.

If the Honda OEM electronic key lock is used, the alarm is activated. If the key is not unlocked before the van is remotely started, the alarm sounds. This should be integrated into the product so the Honda alarm system can be activated, the car started, without inadvertent alarm.

I had a remote starter installed in my car on 5-3-2013; before the installation, I talked to the technician about being able to use my remote start key fob to control my Subaru security system, as well as adjusting a few preset configurations of the remote start system. The technician looked up a few things on their computer system and then told me that there would be no problem in using my remote start fob to control the security system, there would just be an added cost of $29.99. When I went to pickup my car, I had asked the technician if the security system and remote start was able to be connected to one key fob and he said yes. I decided that before I left the store I should try out the new system, I discovered that the remote start key fob would not activate my security system. I went back to the technician and told him that for some reason I couldn’t get my security system to activate, he said that it worked ok for him, so we went out to my car and discovered that he assumed that because the remote locked and unlocked the doors, that the security system activated and deactivated. He went in and printed out some paper work that he showed me and that it clearly stated that Subaru security system can ONLY be used using a Subaru key fob; he then said something that caught my attention, he said that when he was installing my remote starter, there wasn’t an “extra wire” from my car to connect to the remote system. I asked that since he knew that the remote starter could not be connected to my security system, why tell me that everything was working fine and then why was I charged $29.99 for something that could not be done ?? A few minutes later, I had to ask him if I was going to get the $29.99 refunded, he said that he "could" do that , I added that he "would" and then received my refund. I'm perfectly sure that if I didn't asked for the refund, I wouldn't have been given one. Over all, the remote starter was installed and worked but the fact that the technician charged me to connect the remote starter to the security system, then after the installation .. told me that everything was working fine, then did not offer me a refund for the charge I paid to begin with .. I won't trust any future installations to the Geek Squad

    Don't buy online

I purchased the hardware and installation online and got to the store for my appointment and was charged an additional $45 because apparently the installation in the kit is only good for the remote start or keyless entry but not both. I thought I was saving money but ended up paying more than what the local audio shop would of charged. I thought this was going to work based on the description up until I arrived they need to be more clear about this.

My husband purchased a remote entry and installation for my birthday at Best Buy. Problems started when I tried to schedule an installation. That took over an hour on the phone. Apparently they were at lunch. They set an appt., said it would take 3-5 hours. When I arrived for the appt., they took it in, and said they'd call us. An hour later they called, to say it would be an extra $10 for a wire and $35 for installation of said wire, despite promising my husband when he purchased it that they had included everything. SIX hours later, we went back to the store. THey hadn't called. The guy said he had been busy, and ran into problem. Half an hour later, he comes out to say it doesn't work. He doesn't know why. Last week they had a bad module. This one could be too, but he doesn't have another. He told us he could try to "hard wire" it into my car, but he didn't have time since they were closing. Um. No. So I asked for a full refund. He said it would take about half an hour to remove the non-functional equipment from my car. O.k. 45 minutes later. He comes out to tell us the car won't start. He says it's flooded. We'll have to come back TOMORROW because "it will take that long for the spark plugs to dry out". ??????? Since it won't start, and it's almost 9:00, we do leave. We return the next day, and another guy is there. He looks at it, apparently the battery is dead, takes a while to find a jumper, jumps it, and it starts right up. According to him, the module may have been fine, he doesn't know, but it certainly wouldn't have worked anyway since the battery to the car was drained. So I wasted 7 hours on a Saturday, a couple hours running around on a Sunday morning, and I have absolutely nothing to show for it other than a determination to never, ever, return to Best Buy for ANYTHING EVER. . .

Purchased at the Ankeny, Ia store and everyone was great! The installer was very professional, explained everything, answered all my questions. Install was done on time, even a little early, explained the operation- pretty straight forward on this model. Starts my truck from my room - 3 concrete walls and across the parking lot - Very Nice for coming Winter

    Remote starter nightmare

I purchased a remote stater w/ keyless entry with installation. Set up appointment to install spoke to installer to verify they knew the make and model, asked if they had everything to complete installation all seemed a go until today. After arriving found out it's another 50.00 so ok I was a little upset since I apparently thought I had paid for the installation. Told them to go ahead. Two hours later I received a call from tech telling me if I want the original system to function along with the new remote starter and keyless entry it would be another 100.00 on top of the 50.00 earlier and the original installation I paid for upfront. So many hidden costs. I canceled the install and returned the remote. I'll get it done somewhere else. Word of advice watch out.

    No remote starter for me...

I just purchased a remote starter online for my wife's car. Called the Muskegon location to schedule the Geek Squad installation and the "geek" who I talked to was rude and wouldn't let me finish a sentence without interrupting me. I purchased the "Viper 5301 Responder LE 2-Way Remote Start System and Geek Squad Installation" and was excited to get this installed in my wife's car for her. But after talking to the "gentleman" on the phone, he informed me of a long list of needed items which would add another $240+ to the price. I was willing to look past his horrible customer service skills in order to get this gift for my wife but I wasn't about to pay over $500 for a remote starter. Plus after reading all of the negative customer reviews, I'm convinced this is not the place to do my business with. Thanks for the disappointment Best Buy/Geek Squad. What ever happened to the genuine desire to please the customer? You really should do a better job at competing for the opportunity to receive our hard earned dollars.

    Hidden Fees

I recently purchased the Viper 4103XV remote starter system. The saleswomen at the store stated that installation was free. I dropped off my vehicle to get the system installed and was told if I wanted the “horn honk” or the “trunk pop” I would have to pay extra even though the product has those features. When I picked up my vehicle after the starter was installed I was told my total was $204. I was told the installation was free, but in order to install it I had to buy additional parts, (that were not explained by either the saleswomen or installer) as well as pay for “custom labor”. The total amount paid to “Best Buy” was $423 for a partially functioning product.

Dont Let these people touch your vehicle

I should have gone somewhere else as soon as I witnessed the scheduling process. That pre/post installation check list is a joke none of it ever took place. The installation was sloppy and unprofessional even after I offered to pay extra for a "nice neat job". Instead I got a mess of wires and electrical tape, damage to my wiring harness and trim. I will post photos and video later. The unit still does not work properly. I have been to the store to discuss this several times because no one ever answers the phone. I have been waiting two months for the damage to my vehicle to be repaired. This was caused by an untrained and lazy employee. I you take pride in your vehicle go somewhere else because Best Buy does not take pride in their work. These problems probably could have been easily rectified but store management just doesn't care.

    Installation

First, in buying the remote start for my son's birthday, we had an incompetent sales person who said we could just drop off the car and have remote start installed - oh no. Called and had to wait 4 weeks for install! Called the day before install, the install dept confirmed appointment and told us to go to back of store. when my husband went to drop it off the next day, there is no trace of an appointment and now we are pushed out another 3 weeks. When i called to complain, they asked me who i confirmed my appt with and that they were under staffed-maybe that is why THEY canceled the appt. Then I called to talk to the manager and after 20+ minutes on hold, THEY hung up. I am returning this $350 piece of junk. There are other retailers to buy this from with better customer service - never again.

Extremely disappointed recently in additional chargers for Installation from Best Buy in Dublin, Ohio. We have used Best Buy for years to install different products in multiple vehicles, this is the first time I'm been so displeased. Purchased a Remote Starter with Installation for my son for Christmas (Installation $140.) You can imagine my surprise when they charged an additional $200 for "additional parts & labor". Last time we will be using Best Buy!
