Broken Macbook Pro :(

Went in two weeks ago to drop off my laptop after dropping it from three feet and denting the corner as well as causing the touchpad to crack. At first I wasn't very optimistic since the first geek squad guy I spoke to told me that it wasn't damaged enough to be fixed and that I should have "dropped it harder". Regardless I sent it out hoping for the best but expecting them to send my laptop back without repairing it. Two weeks went by and I didn't hear back from them so I called and they informed me that my laptop was too damaged and informed me that I needed to go into the store to get a replacement. I did just that and I'm typing this review out on my brand new mac book pro :) I'm very satisfied.

My Gateway is going on 13 years old now !

When I first bought my Gateway laptop, I didn't get the Geek Squad coverage, but that was my first mistake. I am NOT computer literate for one thing, in fact I could be considered a "dinosaur" of sorts. So I don't know the first thing about PC's. When it comes to simple tasks as downloading a anti-virus software, I need help, so when I first tried to do it, I took my laptop in to Geek Squad and paid them for the whole "nine yards" of coverage. And that was the best investment I ever made! (Sure, it costs a few bucks more than I would have wanted to spend,) Ever since, my PC has run efficiently and smoothly with no problems, and as I said, it is getting really old too. In fact, today, we just purchased another laptop from Best Buy, this time, a HP Pavillion, hoping for the same quality, but this time, we will get the Geek Squad back up from the get go. I am not sure what all these other people's hang ups are about the service that they got, but mine was the best! I always called ahead before I went in the store for one thing ( i knew better than that!) and I always took preventive measures on my device. Maybe that is the difference. But my hat is off to the squad for a job well done! Those guys and gals really know their stuff!

Thoroughly pleased with Tech Support

We purchased the one-year plan with a new laptop. My older desktop had a virus that the regular AV program just couldn't defeat. I logged on to the online tech support site, and the agent at the other end helped me get my membership number. He then took control of my desktop, and worked from 10:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on my machine.
When I woke up, there was a note from the agent explaining what he had done. The virus was gone, and the computer was tuned up so well that it runs like new again.
We have another desktop that was gathering dust because the operating system had crashed. We brought it in to the store, and got it back four days later. It's running smooth and fast now. The support we have received has been excellent, and I recommend this to everyone.

I needed support to help fix my laptop which has every file I have created or saved over the past 3 years on it and was worried I would not be able to retrieve it. Luckily, Geek Squad was able to help me out and everything is okay now!

I am very happy with my Lenovo laptop windows 8. It is very easy to use. I love all the Windows 8 options. It took a little getting use to. The Geek Squad was very helpful setting it up for me. They took their time with the tutorial.

I bought Tech Support in a Best Buy store with my new laptop. I was able to take advantage of a discounted price for this service for buying it with my new computer (saved $100). I'm set for a year of support for my new PC (virus protection, troubleshooting, etc) and since the service covers up to 3 computing devices I can fix up my old laptop and give it to my niece to use for all of her school projects. Plus I received 6 months of Kaspersky antivirus software - included with my computer and tech support purchase - nice. So far, I've been very happy!

Virus removal and peace of mind

I brought my laptop in to Geek Squad because it had gotten a virus and it was unusable. (Yes, I have a security program, but these things still get through.) While talking to the Agent about the virus removal, he let me know about this program. So I bought Tech Support, then left the laptop with them to be fixed. I was able to pick up my laptop the next day, virus free! And now, I have peace of mind that if anything else like that goes wrong, I'm covered! No more paying for removing viruses! Also: Part of this program is that you can use it on more than one computer. So when my desktop starting acting up, I brought it in for a complete check-up and optimization -- free of charge! It's covered under my Tech Support membership.

I just want to say that I like my Surface Pro 2, and I just want to say that sometimes I have problems with the adapters and I do not like having to pay for some of the products you need for it all the time, but all the same I do enjoy using and working with it. I have, however taken it into the Geek Squad at Best Buy, and they are always very courteous and very helpful. When I need a little extra help the Geek Squad wild go the extra mile for me, Thank you.

Fantastic Service!

$199 for Tech Support for a year with a year of Antivirus included is a fantastic price, even if you just bring in 3 machines to have a tuneup done! Tech Support covers 3 machines in your house for Geeksquad troubleshooting and support, and there labor to fix problems. IE: Virus removals, PC Tuneups, Software installs, Hardware installs, Password resets, pretty much anything you would use them for. It also goes on sale for $99 for a year which is a FANTASTIC price... This also includes REMOTE ONLINE SUPPORT so Geeksquad can take control of your system remotely and fix it while you sit at home, and 1800 Geeksquad Phone support. Don't let these other reviewers fool you, this is THE WAY to go.

The agent was phenomenal, and I probably got more than I paid for during this initial visit, however it would have been great for him to not only set up my computer, but to ask and help connect my existing wireless printer to my computer, and for him to check to see which programs I may need that were on the old computer and place them on the new computer. It would also be a great help for him to have helped me clean off my old computer to keep personal information from potentially being retrieved by those who should not have it .......this is just good customer service, and protection we home computer users could use. The problem was that he just ran out of time.
All work done by the agent was Goooood, however I believe the processes used to verify the customer when talking over the phone could be better and it just does not appear the the Geek Squad process for talking and helping customers via telephone is up to par.

Great service for the money

I buy electronics from Best Buy rather than Costco because I value the help given by Geek Squad staff. Costco may have longer warranty but Geek Squad folks are easy to talk with, available in store, phone or chat session. You wont get that kind of support from Costco's 3rd party vendor. I know that for a fact. Well worth the money I pay for Geek Squad service

It really is a good deal...

So here's the deal... i work at a local best buy as a computer sales associate... i used to be an on-site computer technician and moved here out of state and took the job at best buy selling computers until i get moved into an on-site repair agent "double agent" at my local store... every single store has a print out that lists all the services included in tech support... its 99.99 with the purchase of a core product, automatically covers the core product and you can attach 2 additional devices (pc,mac, or tablet) that do not have to be purchased at best buy... you have unlimited access to these services, on the phone, in the store, on the web... and they can even remote in to computers (not tablet)... seeing as i was the guy running around doing on site calls for a competitor and being the guy writing out the bill... i truly see the benefit... hence I'm off work writing a review because I'm frustrated with some of these comments... so first off whats not covered... on site calls (in home) are not free... however they are discounted tremendously... the last company i worked for charged 80 bucks an hour 1 hour minimum with a 15 dollar service call fee and charged by the quarter hour after the first... with tech support... you get an agent in home for 90 minutes for 49.99... next on the not covered list... data transfers... again its discounted... you can get a data transfer for 79.99 or your can get a data transfer and a 500gb western digital external hard drive for 129.99 with a backup on it... so what is covered... goodness... theirs a lot... for example... a diagnostic and repair... is 199.99 without tech support... with it... its free... operating system install 129.99 also free... you get unlimited virus removals... password resets... on the phone or remote web support... it really is a good service for the money you spend... the other service offered while buying a new core product is geek squad protection (covers drops, spills, power damage) nearly anything with the exception of full submersion and well... telling them you did it on purpose, on a computer (not a tablet) over 500 dollars you save extra money... in some cases a lot of money getting both services aka double coverage exp... Toshiba 17 in premium PC for 799.99 2 year protection is 269.99 2 year tech support 179.99 double coverage is 279.99 10 bucks for the tech support... and don't forget tech support comes with a matching term of antivirus... the one year is a 49.99 dollar value... the 2 year a 79.99 dollar value (double coverage on tablets is 129.99 for 1 year, 229 for 2 years) good example of a deal on that is 1 year protection on an ipad 16gb 4th gen being 99.99... and yes you still get the antivirus for 3 windows/macs/mobile devices (recommend webroot) all in all... if you use tech support... your getting a great value... i truly care about my customers... see you in store :)
P.S. NO BEST BUY ASSOCIATES ARE ON COMMISSION
and if you have a good or bad experience with a best buy associate... take the Customer Survey on the receipt www.bestbuycares.com (your feedback really does matter) it will ask for the 3 number groups on the receipt... and the stores general manager and managers of individual departments and department supervisors will see it :)

Purchased a new computer and ordered transfer of data. Well, the hard drive failed on the old computer. We thought the data was lost but had a WD backup hard drive was backed using WD Smartware software which to the owner supports Documents, Pictures, Music, and email but doesn,t normally support Windows Live Mail unknown to us. But The Geek squad Ashley and her associates teamed up and found my wife's email which meant the world to her. The transfer took many hours of work but completed with great success. Nice job Geek Squad. Thank you

Horrible experiences

It actually makes me think a lot less of Best Buy that they push Geek Squad on customers. It is the worst service I have ever dealt with.
I had been paying for my phone insurance for 7 months, thats $70 total, when I shattered the screen. I called GS right away, and they told me yes the price is free, except for the $150 service charge. I thought they had mistaken what I said, but when I repeated myself I received the same answer. YEP, $150 for them to send me a new phone. How is that a service? I ended up just upgrading my phone through a sprint store because it was the same price.
They charged me 3 days ago for this month's coverage, and I have not had that phone for 3 weeks. So I called GS customer service and I was told that they could cancel my plan for me, but in order for me to be refunded for the month I had to prove I purchased a new phone by finding my receipt and faxing it to them. I said can't you just adjust the price for the 3 days and refund me the rest? He told me there was only one way they could do it, and then snickered at me under his breath when he could tell I was getting frustrated. I told him to keep the money. I have never dealt with customer service where you are wrong until you PROVE what you're telling them is true.
Guess I learned my lesson from not looking up reviews on a website other than on one that makes money off of it (everywhere else the ratings for GS are 1-2 stars)

Everything was great until pickup

I bought this membership in conjunction with a new desktop computer, which I purchased when my 5 year old laptop crashed. As it turned out, you can register 3 machines under the plan, so I decided to use it to have my laptop repaired. The savings of the technical support charges made this quite affordable, and now I have both a new desktop as well as the portability of my laptop.
I had to wait about 10 minutes on line to see a technician, but he was very knowledgeable and completed my service order quickly. As my computer was being serviced, I received an e-mail with information to track its repair online. This is an excellent feature. My repair was promised for one week, and was completed in 4 days. I received an automated phone message when my computer was ready for pickup. The corresponding e-mail was sent the following day, after I had already picked-up the item.
The pick up is the only complaint I had. Entering the store, you can choose the Merchandise Pickup line, the Customer Service Line, or the Geek Squad line. And there was no one to greet me to tell me which line I had to be in. After a few minutes waiting for Customer Service, I learned from the cashier that I needed to be in the Geek Squad line. Figures... it was the longest. And it was the slowest. I waited, standing, for about 20 minutes before a technician was ready to see me. The same technicians who are troubleshooting, advising, and completing orders are the same people who retrieve your repaired items for you. So, it took me about half an hour to complete a 5 minute transaction.
Ultimately, my repair was thorough, and well worth the cost of the membership.

Generally, this is very good assistance

This really is good service for the value. The people are generally quite knowledgeable, and helpful with all situations. I have found them to be honest and fair in their pricing. My biggest problem is the timeliness. I would like to see it not take so long for the service to be done on a product I have take in for assistance. In this computer age, I feel that most of us have a difficult time doing without our computer for any period of time. But, it is easier to give up a few hours than 1-2 days. As I have used this service many times before, I see the increasing numbers that are using this service. I feel it would be nice to have a few more of these agents available in the stores to provide quicker service. And, the only real issue I had with this service was 1 of the agents told me my computer would be ready in an hour, yet she knew it would take more like 2 hours. I would appreciate honesty as my time is as important as theirs.

Geek Squad not thorough

I brought my computer in for virus removal. I had to call them two days later because I could not log onto the internet. When it does log-on, it tells me there is no such thing as Bank of AMerica and it can not find the website. It did not recognize the Applestore web site. They told me the internet may not have been "hooked" back up. I do not know why this would not have been done automatically. Since talking with them, I can no longer print. My computer seems to have forgotten my printer ove the last few days. Now, my itunes says it is corrupt and that it was installed incorrectly and it will not open. I have had itunes for 12 years and have never had a problem until now. I did receive my hard drive back in a very timely manner with the Kaspersky internet security software installed but I have to question if I got it back before they removed all the issues. Not very thorough. My computer is on the way back to Geek Squad. I have to say, the first day I had my computer back from Geek Squad, it was lightening fast. Since then, it has been getting slower and slower to the point where it wont link up with the internet now, my computer no longer recognizes my printer and my itunes has become corrupt and will not open. Below it asks if I would recommend Geek Squad to a friend. I would say yes, but I would warn them to proceed with caution and hope they are thorough.

A necessary accessory for any computer
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
We bought a replacement computer for my daughter, with it we purchased the Geek Squad protection plan (for up to 3 computers). All of my daughter's personal files--pictures, music, school reports--were trapped in the old computer that had inexplicably failed. Best Buy's counter tech pulled the hard drive, scanned it for viruses and installed it in an external case, in effect, converting it to an external hard drive. All of her files were recovered and transfered simply to her new computer. Perhaps the most significant aspect is that they did the work then and there. I didn't have to leave it. I didn't have to wait. They did the work in front of me, explaining the 'whys' and 'whats' as they worked. The only other cost was for the hard drive case I purchased. Without a doubt, this coverage is a necessary accessory for any computer.
