Forced to purchase Norton, which I already have.

I was told I had to purchase an anti-virus software program as part of the service contract. I explained to the tech that I have an active contract with Norton with about 10 months remaining. The tech said that I could just not activate the program purchased through the service contract until I was ready to use it after my current contract expired. I now find out that was untrue and that the program is only good through the calendar dates of the service contract. So in effect, I was forced to purchase something that I cannot use just to get my computer fixed. Needless to say, I am NOT happy!!!!!!

I have been a pretty loyal Best Buy shopper for a while and have had to use many protection plans in the past so I highly recommend to others. They are always easy to work with and have a resolution in a short amount of time.

Worth the extra cost to have with any purchase of computer, laptop, phone, or well anything electronic. I am not that tech skilled and really with things being updated ,and making any knowledge or product outdated almost, daily sometimes who does know everything about the items that we purchase. Trying to do something, add something, undo something, or just anything can take a lot of time, possibly screws something up really badly, and cause aggravation and be irritating placing a shadow on your joy of the product. Geek Squad is there 24/7 with friendly, knowledgeable techs to take the problem off your hands. They helped me add software, and talked me through doing it myself on my other two laptops that I had purchased that day. By teaching me step by step, first by remote access on one of them I watched as they did it, then by instructing me as I did the second, and then just being there for support as I did the third computer. I felt better and not as technologically impaired. And I even was able to bookmark my favorite tech to help me whenever he is available to me, even though every single one of the techs are great in every way! A must have investment!

Question and really understand what the Geek Squad

I just bought a new computer, monitor, wireless printer and purchased the Geek squad technical support package. I have had a lot of trouble connecting the printer. I felt the Geek squad, at store level, should of had this connected, prepped and ready to go when I took everything home after having it initially serviced at my local Best Buy store . I was disappointed to find out that I need to have a USB to USB connect to initially set up wireless printer. I feel this should of been done by Geek squad at store during set up or someone should of informed me I needed a USB cable/connect. Have spent a lot of time screwing around with this. Ticked me off I had to buy another thing. I have used Geek squad online and by phone . Online is fast connect but it will take at least 30 mins to get with someone by phone. They are all very nice and really try to help but I'm still not connected to wireless printer : (
I still recommended this to a friend with hesitation.

Worth the money IF....

Paid $100 to have one full years worth of free installation of any component on my PC. I'm someone that actually is familiar with updating components on my own but figured why not. I was in a rush and between work, home and 3 kids I appreciate my quiet time and didn't want to have to start building up or break down my computers (and I tend to upgrade components semi regularly). Had a high end video card (purchased at Bestbuy) and high wattage power supply (which I purchased elsewhere) installed with no problem. They will take any component purchased anywhere and install it in any computer. All you have to do is bring it in. Real friendly staff and so far nothing wrong with any work done. They are 'young' geeks (I'm kinda one too) and that's who you want working on your machine.

I've had to use the service, and it was adequate, but for more complicated issues I called the manufacturer because the techs in the store couldn't figure it out.
At one point they told me I had to re-format a BRAND NEW laptop to fix an issue, but the manufacturer said do no do that, and they helped me over the phone.
The only reason I would recommend it (could only choose yes or no for a mandatory question - very limited) is for someone who isn't good with computers, like my mother.

We bought from Best Buy a new television, a new computer, a digital receiver, and a blueray dvd player. We also purchased protection plans for all but the blueray, thinking it was not a high-ticket item and coverage wouldn't be worth it. WRONG! Our coverage on the computer was used before we ever even took the product home with us, so, when we did get it home, it was up and running in seconds! I was more than impressed. But THEN...Hubby tried to set up the blueray with the television and it was an absolute nightmare! We went back to the store the next day and Best Buy Geeksquad set him straight on what he had done wrong! We learned a valuable lesson and immediately purchased an additional coverage on the blueray! Now, if ANYTHING goes wrong with any of our items...we just call them! WOW! We LOVE the convenience and peace of mind it gives us! For anyone who is NOT technologically savvy...buy the plan! It is more than worth the price!

I purchased a new computer last spring and purchased the Geek Squad Tech Support. I moved in May and shortly after my computer got a virus. I called tech support and told them what my computer said, they advised that I would need to take it to a Best Buy store. I took it in and within a few minutes they knew what the virus was and was told it would be the next day or so before it would be ready. When I picked it up I wasn't charged anything since I had the Tech Support. It pays for itself, without the Tech Support it probably would have cost me $250.00. So I will recommend it to all my family and friends!!

I like to feel that if I have an issue with my computer I have someone who knows exactly what needs to be done. I like to feel secure at having my computer worked on by an agent who knows how to make it all work properly. I only feel that a few times when I have taken my computer in many issues are not clearly explained or demonstrated even though I have asked questions. I feel that my most recent expierence wasn't too satisfing due to not having completed the job correctly or it wasn't explained completely well enough. I have had wonderful service on prior visits to geek squad and there are many agents who take the time necessary to get things done right or explained and demonstrated with no doubt as what to do when you get your product back. I feel that having geek squad tech support gives me security to know that I have help when I will need it.

Laptop running like new again

I have to say that I am very pleased with the service that was performed on my laptop. Not only is it running like new again, but they cleaned it so thoroughly it looks new too! I truly thought that if I got it back and it was repaired that would be great, but the fact that they went beyond that level was the cherry on top. I wish I would've paid less for the service (bought the 1 year contract for $200.) But, overall very happy. My laptop had several viruses and they had it back to me in 2 days. I love the Bloomingdale store & Geek Squad. Thanks guys!

Tried to download an AP Biology practice test before finals and ended up getting a virus. Connected to an agent in less than 10 min and he did remote access on my laptop. Removed the virus in under 3 hours and then did a tuneup on the computer. Great service and didn't even have to leave my room.

Purchased tech support with a new laptop. Agents were able to give me a brief tutorial of Windows 8 at time of purchase. Very helpful as computer came with no manual of any kind. Used tech support to id problems on an older laptop. They were able to recover data from the hard drive and copy to my new computer. This probably paid for the cost of the support. Good deal for someone not tech savvy or someone wanting a good shortcut to learning a new system. Probably not needed for more experienced users. I am happy with the service but doubt I will renew after the first year.

Our laptop picked up a virus, and my husband took the machine to our local Best Buy. They tried to tell him that our Geek Squad protection had expired and were going to charge him $179 to fix the machine. Fortunately, I had kept the email confirmation that showed our Geek Squad protection still has a couple of months to go before it expires. When he was able to show them the email, their explanation was that "their records were out of date." Be sure to keep your paperwork!

Worst Warranty Ever

My husband purchased a warranty for me for my iphone 5s. After a year my battery started giving me problems so I went in to get a new phone. First of all, you get a refurbished phone. Second there is a hidden charge of $149.99 plus tax that is called a service fee. I questioned it and the employee saying he would "waive" it. Well, 2 weeks later they charged my credit card $162.50 and I was told that the employee wasn't authorized to waive that fee. Also, they sent me the wrong phone!!! I returned the phone and had to fight with them to get my money refunded. The company was absolutely no help and said I had to request a refund. Horrible customer service! No one seems to know the policies. Each customer service rep tells me something different! Never again will purchase any service contract with Geek Squad.

I didn't pay full price for this, I think there was some kind of a promotion and I got it for almost nothing. I didn't use their services, however, but it's nice to know somebody is there if I ever came across a problem.
