Smashed box
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game itself was perfectly fine. Thank god. But the box was basically smashed into little pieces. My fiancé likes to collect the cases as well. Luckily he had one that he could replace it with. I know it’s Christmas time and things are crazy, but the box was still smashed into little pieces. Other than that, great

Atreus levels a bit stale, but overall fantastic
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.*********SPOILERS********** I played through every God of War since the first one on PS2. I was mesmerized by the story and the gameplay and giant boss sequences. 18 years (!!!!!) later, this game has reached the pinnacle of Kratos' story. If you've played even just 2018 God of War, nothing here will be unfamiliar in terms of gameplay. Its smooth, its powerful, its fun. If you're totally new.....well...I would recommend at least watching a playthrough of the first few games to get an understanding for the story, but this combat gameplay is some of the best ever and youre in for a treat. You also eventually get a new weapon later in the game. Graphics are fantastic. This is why you get a PS5. For scenes and visuals like the ones in this game. Runs smooth at 4k60 and if you have a high refresh OLED TV, even better. My biggest annoyance with the game itself are the sometimes pointless upgrades and some of the Atreus levels. When upgrading your character, either with armor, weapons, or skill moves, theres definitely plenty available for you. But often, some of the skill moves, while they might look cool, are so useless in actual combat that theres no one I know who would choose that skill move over any of the others. Similarly, youll never use some pieces of armor cuz they often are terrible in terms of your character build. "This armor piece adds +3 to defense!!!!...............and -17 from strength, -12 agility, -14 vitality." Just a little pointless sometimes. But youre not forced to use it so its not a big deal. The biggest issue I had with the game was actually the Atreus levels. He's not nearly as powerful as his literal God of a father, so his combat is a lot less satisfying. But also, the levels where you play Atreus go on for WAY too long with sometimes very little combat. So youre just trekking around the world while NPCs talk to you. The world is beautiful and everything remains fluid. But after fighting a big boss or 20 enemies at once with Kratos, to all of sudden walking around grassy rocks and picking fruit for 15 straight minutes without a single enemy is a little bit of a whiplash that made me wish I could fast forward to being Kratos again. The story itself was pretty awesome, if not slightly predictable. I saw the twist coming about 3/4s of the way, and I honestly feel like the whole story wouldve had more impact if Kratos HAD actually died. Nevertheless, the voice acting is superb, and I did enjoy the story and the characters. Theres rumors that there will be a spinoff Atreus-only game where he's older and stronger, and while I dont know if those are confirmed or not, I would be willing to play it, in hopes that they dont make the whole game as boring as his levels in this one lol. I dont expect that to happen but yeah. My hats off to Santa Monica Studio. Theyve outdone themselves with a masterpiece and I look forward to their next game, whatever it may be.

The character development is exceptional, with each character adding depth to the emotionally charged story. The intertwining of Norse mythology within the plot adds a layer of intrigue and complexity. Visuals and Sound: Visually, the game is a feast for the eyes. The level of detail in the environments and character models is astounding, fully immersing players in this mythological world. The soundtrack is equally impressive, enhancing the epic feel of the journey. World Exploration: The game world is expansive and filled with secrets to uncover. Kratos is back
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.God of War Ragnarok is a tour de force in gaming that seamlessly continues the saga of Kratos and Atreus while introducing new layers of depth, emotion, and epic gameplay. This eagerly anticipated sequel lives up to its predecessor and then some. From the outset, the visual spectacle is awe-inspiring. The attention to detail in the realms, characters, and animations is breathtaking, drawing players into a rich and immersive Norse mythology. The transition between cutscenes and gameplay is seamless, creating an uninterrupted storytelling experience. The combat mechanics, a hallmark of the series, have been refined to perfection. Kratos' axe and Leviathan Axe have been joined by new and equally satisfying weapons, each with its own distinct feel and playstyle. The weight of every strike and the variety of combos keep battles intense and engaging. Beyond the action, the heart of the game lies in its narrative. The father-son dynamic between Kratos and Atreus continues to evolve, delving into themes of family, legacy, and identity. The emotional journey they undertake is both poignant and relatable, grounding the epic story in genuine human emotions. The open-world design adds a new dimension to exploration. The realms are expansive and interconnected, offering a sense of grandeur and discovery. Side quests and optional content provide depth to the experience, rewarding those who want to delve deeper into the lore. Voice acting and sound design are impeccable, bringing the characters to life with authenticity and emotion. The score, a blend of haunting melodies and bombastic orchestration, heightens the epic atmosphere. While God of War Ragnarok boasts an extraordinary experience, it's not without a few minor flaws. Some players might find the sheer scale of content overwhelming, and occasional technical glitches can momentarily break immersion. In summary, God of War Ragnarok is a masterpiece that exemplifies the best of storytelling, gameplay, and visual artistry in gaming. It's a testament to the evolution of the medium and a must-play for both fans of the series and newcomers seeking an unforgettable journey through Norse mythology.

The God of War series is simply the best
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What an amazing game! The God of War games never disappoint. It’s amazing to see how much this series has evolved over the years. The first few games had a decent story but they were pretty short and you mainly were just hacking away at enemies. Now you have such an in-depth story and combat. This game was more like 30 hours and so many great moments in the story that brought tears to my eyes. A great story about not only saving the world but about relationships. It was great to finally see Kratos have some emotion and the relationship with Atreus get stronger all the way through. The graphics are the best I have ever seen. So many vibrant colors and beautiful scenery. A few twists and shockers in the story which I always enjoy. I have a faded memory of the previous god of war game but I think I can say this is my favorite one to date. A really fun game to play through and I really enjoyed the story. 9.4/10
