For as far back as I can remember, I wanted "GoodFellas" to look great on Blu-Ray. The 2007 Blu-Ray release, while a steady improvement over its DVD counterparts, disappointed in its failure to capture the movie's clarity, sharpness and densities. The contrast was uneven, the image looked too bright, the blackness too cumbersome and distracting, the colors looked relatively dim and, worst of all, there was a haziness that made the tiniest of all details unnoticeable. Whoever was in charge in putting "GoodFellas" on Blu-Ray deserved a good pistol whip to the face. But now comes the 25th anniversary edition of "GoodFellas", in which the movie has been given a 4K resolution from the original camera negative. The results? "GoodFellas" doesn't look great; it looks absolutely phenomenal! The image has a fine, naturally grain quality that gives the movie a documentary feel (which is appropriate since that was the filmmakers' intentions), there is greater detail in even the extreme long shots that weren't noticed in the previous versions (just watch Karen's wedding scene and the famous Copacabana long take in both this version and the 2007 one and the difference in quality is staggering), there are various shades of blackness and color that give the picture more depth (the burial and subsequent digging of Billy Batts, for example, looks even more detailed than before) and contrast, unbalanced in the previous version, is excellent. At long last, "GoodFellas" has come out in a presentation that would make the even stoic Paul Cicero crack a smile. Having watched "GoodFellas" hundreds of times, I continue to marvel at the film's superb direction, outstanding performances, rich visuals and themes, moral ambiguity and its seamless blend of horror, drama and black humor. It's a film that 25 years after its release in 1990 continues to affect me as much as it does to everyone in my generation. Most movies grow dated after numerous viewings; not "GoodFellas". Now on a spellbinding 25th anniversary Blu-Ray set that restores the film to its original form, the movie's power has been enriched. You don't know "GoodFellas" until you've watched this set.

Goodfellas WHAT A CLASSIC! What a movie! This directorial masterpiece by Scorsese stands out in all areas which includes visual, auditory and narrative excellence.the way in which this movie is narrated leaves the audience with a sense of fulfilment having watched 2 and a half hours of this narrative masterpiece. The cinematography along with the excellent choice of songs for the movie stands for Scorsese’s cliche style of direction, the movie explains itself through the music and beautiful shots of excellence. Who doesn’t get a chills through the spines when you get to see Scorsese’sbrilliant one takes and I certainly had goosebumps when the protagonist broke the 4th wall.at times the movie leaves the audience with a quest for high Adrenaline rushes while at times it leaves you cold and spineless.....Words can’t describe how organised the screenplay has rolled out throughout this movie. The brilliant and often too realistic performances from lotta, de Niro and pesci along with the whole crew gives the audience a feel as if they were part of a mob too. Truly the greateast mobster movie in the 1990s goodfellas is truly a rival for all time best mobster movie.

Many books, articles, reviews, and essays have been posted or published about Goodfellas that all confirm one big thing: it's an absolute classic of modern cinema and one of the top 10 gangster movies ever made. Released many times on home video from VHS, to DVD, to special edition DVDs and blu-rays, The Goodfellas 25th anniversary edition finally brings us much closer to the way the film was meant to be seen and heard. Remastered from 35mm celluloid film source elements with supervision by director Martin Scorsese, the new version was scanned in 4k to bring tremendous amounts of new details to the digital realm then re-colored to match the original release and in addition had the sound re-mixed and upgraded to lossless DTS-HD surround sound. All this was done to pull you in closer to the world of Henry Hill, Tommy D, and Jimmy The Gent. Many of you who purchased Goodfellas on blu-ray years ago many already be happy with the way the movie looks and sounds but that version released in 2007 lacked HD sound and had technical issues with the video that limited the true colors and details of the image from being seen. This new version not only makes the image pop even more with better, natural colors and details and textures but it feels more like a movie shot on 35mm film should look. The best way to describe it is it feels like stepping back and seeing the movie being projected on 35mm but with the convenience of being on a digital HD disc. For those with big sound systems the lossless DTS-HD remastered track definitely puts your investment to good use by bringing to life lots more detail and clarity to the dialogue, classic music tracks, and expressionistic sound design and effects. Now all the scenes feel much bigger and again pull you closer to the world of Goodfellas. If you're a fan of the movie, do yourself a favor and pick up this classic that has been remastered with love and care and is priced very, very well!

Cited by film critic Roger Ebert as "the best mob movie ever," GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie. Following the rise and fall of a trio of gangsters over 30 years, it's an electrifying, fact-inspired tale of living – and dying. Based on the true-life best seller "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi, the film earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director and was named 1990's 'Best Film' by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. In 2000, GoodFellas was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the US Library of Congress. Scorsese was awarded the Silver Lion Award for Best Director in Venice. Robert De Niro received wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy "The Gent" Conway, and Joe Pesci, as the volatile Tommy DeVito, walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Academy Award nominees Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino also turned in electrifying performances.

This is a great film with fantastic cinematography. That said, I feel that I get a better picture with the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray. There is a slight, I mean slight upgrade with this picture. I’d say the flaw lies in the grain and the blacks. It’s still a good picture but at times the sharpness falls here and there. It doesn’t remain constant. All in all it’s a pretty good picture but in my own opinion I prefer the picture quality of the Blu-ray. I must say though the audio in this 4K is pristine. With a proper set up you get definite Dolby experiences. Whatever your preference, it’s your choice. Both versions are pretty good. Bottom line I’m happy with my 25th Anniversary version.

There are bad movies, decent movies, good movies, excellent movies, outstanding movies, and a very select few are legendary. However, only one movie can be considered the best movie of all time, and THIS is that movie! To me, it's perfect. This is the movie that stands above all else (yes, even better than The Godfather)! If you're one of the few people who has never seen it, this is a movie about the mafia in real life (as it is based on a true story), and what's frightening about it is that the mafia in real life is even more vicious and ruthless than the mafia as depicted in TV shows and other movies. If there are any problems with this particular 4K set, it's that the 4K disc itself isn't exactly an example of a great transfer. In fact, the Blu-ray disc it comes with looks much better than the 4K one! I don't know how that's even possible, but it is what it is.

Being an avid collector of SteelBooks, I just had to have this version of Goodfellas! The art work on both the inside and out are awesome! As for the movie itself, this 4K transfer is one of the better transfers I've seen. The colors are vivid, the sound quality is great and the picture is top notch. I will say that this being a 4K transfer of a movie that came out in 1990, there are still spots of grain and "noise" that are probably unavoidable due to the age of the film. Overall, however, I would highly recommend this 4K SteelBook to anyone who is a fan of this movie and / or a collector of SteelBooks!

    BluRay Does the Trick

Ray Liotta made a well deserved name for himself as an actor in this film directed by Marty Scorsese, and it is thrilling to see again on BluRay. In theaters this movie was never without its grain and dark areas, which survive in this print (BluRay.com gives its image 4 out of 5 stars) -- but that's not bad; this film looks crisp and sharp and every bit as good as the original theatrical release that shocked, excited and amused. Its so much better in blueray. The immortal and terrifying "You laughing at me? Then what are you laughing at?" scene with glinting eyes in pitch black darkness fully reveal the devilish delight of the actors is worth the price alone to get the bluray. A full surround track amplifies Muzzle flashes in the dark and headlights and full details on the period cars (often shown at night, when these guys are most active) make it all the more worthy.

I received this item and tried to watch the movie on the 4K disc. My 4K player would not read the disc. The Blu-ray disc worked fine. I returned the faulty disc set, via mail to Best Buy. They returned the same disc set back to me. No refund, no exchange and no explanation. So now I have a 4K movie that I can't watch.

This is one of my favorite films of all time, but strangely enough, prior to the release of this 4K steelbook, I had never actually owned a physical copy of it. Now I do. I don't yet have a 4K blu ray player so I can't test the video quality of the disk, but the digital copy looks and sounds great, and the packaging, bonus features, and delivery times were all excellent. I don't collect a lot of films, but the modern releases I do buy, i get from Best Buy because of their steelbook editions.

Goodfellas spins a True tale of Henry Hill, who went from teenage Mob runner to the top of the game only to be forced to turn snitch to survive. Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta lead the pack in Martin Scorcece's 1990 Masterpiece. This UHD Steelbook release is the same encoded UHD disc from the earlier issued disc. The Steelbook itself is nice but not the best artwork for really showcase the film. However due to the nature that the previous release is out of print, this edition will be the best to own it!

    Best Mob Movie Ever

Goodfellas is often held up next to Godfather in competition for the “best mob movie ever”, but I still give it to Goodfellas. I think the characters and dynamic nature of the film is still as captivating as it was when it first came out. Goodfellas is a very entertaining, faster paced film where Godfather really romanticizes the mob life where Goodfellas just feels realer. This is an amazing set for a great price: the 4K disc, the special edition blu ray copy, and a third special features disc. You also get a free digital redemption code. If you like Goodfellas, then seeing it on 4K is incredibly worth it.
